Field 1 was peaceful despite lots of (well behaved!) Duke of Edinburgh kids elsewhere on the site. Very close to toilets which were cleaned regularly and drinking water points. Nice clean showers with plugs & hairdryers, also washing facilities available. Handy little shop and games room. Really great family-friendly site for kids. Friendly staff. Excellent location for exploring, we loved the Nine Ladies walk. The Druid Inn just down the road is fantastic. Easy to get to via public transport from Matlock and Bakewell. We loved the Peacocks, Alpacas and Polly the dog! Thanks for a lovely stay!

We haven’t camped a lot and we had a brilliant time here. We have two children who loved the play area. We appreciated the clean facilities and great customer service. As walkers, it’s a good base from which to take some local walks and the local pubs are an added bonus. Some maps from the site signposting trails and walks might be useful?
Not as good as previous visits

We have stayed at this campsite numerous times before. However, this visit has made us not want to visit again. There were children playing football outside our caravan who continuously hit our car and caravan with the ball. The noise of screaming kids and people shouting carried on into the early hours of the morning. The toilets and showers were not enough for the amount of people on site and at points people were queuing 7-8 deep outside. It just wasn't the relaxing, peaceful visit that we have had here before so we won't be returning.
Great experience, steep hill

It's a great campsite, however, the peacocks are loud and the steward only told us to turn our light off, even though other groups had theirs on. Unfortunately for us, we went during a Duke of Edinburgh event which made it very busy.
Brilliant, thought of everything!

This campsite was absolutely brilliant and they had really thought of everything. Lots of facilities and very clean. If you love animals there are loads - alpacas, goats, dogs and peacocks!

Brilliant site, well maintained and all facilities cleaned regularly. Helpful and friendly staff who will go the "extra mile" for you. Can be quiet during weekdays, but weekends and bank holidays are very busy.

The site is within the Derbyshire Dales countryside with walks in different directions. It has some lovely views, but can get busy. The caravans are split into two different parts, and one of them shares this with tents, which isn't that great. The other one has a much longer walk to the facilities and the caravans are boxed in more. It's a nice place and the staff are polite, but watch-out for the night time security. He can be a bit bossy, but he isn't rude. When we stayed, the place was packed-out with lots of young people doing their D of E expedition training, so that kept the place busy, but they were in a different area. All-in-all, it's a nice campsite and people respected the 'music off' rule at 10.30pm.
Lovely location and family friendly

Excellent site: clean, spacious, good facilities with walks and pubs just off site. Excellent location and will use again. Clean toilets, showers and pot washing areas. DoE campers in separate field, with field for younger families. All thought through and safe, being good value too.

My daughter and grandson are visiting from Australia and we all enjoyed the location and views. The play park for children was a bonus and the facilities were excellent and clean. We will definitely return as we regularly walk in the Peak District.

We visit this site at least once a year and enjoy the location for the views and the opportunity for walks in the Peak District. Facilities are good - especially love the individual shower rooms. Very handy for 2 good pubs in Birchover village, both a few minutes walk from the site. Couple of downsides to camping here though. The 2 main camping fields are not flat and pitches need to be selected with care to avoid things sliding in the tent. Other minor glitch, which is common to many sites in this area, is that Duke of Edinburgh and school groups are often camping here. Most groups are well-behaved and responsible, and well monitored by their leaders. Occasionally they are not! We had a noisy group of teenagers loitering close to our tent, but they instantly hotfooted it when my other half yelled at them to skedaddle back to their own field. More site patrolling needed to ensure rules are followed.
Beautiful, peaceful location

Despite the narrow lanes leading through Birchover, the site and facilities were outstanding. The location of central for visiting Bakewell, Matlock, Matlock Bath and Buxton.

Very clean, excellent facilities - bins emptied daily, good quality toilet paper replenished regularly, shop on site. Kids and Duke of Edinburgh students kept away from adult area. Food trucks in height of summer only. Approx 2 hour walk to Matlock, drove to Bakewell but only 15 mins away by car.

Stayed in a large group with kids from very young to teenager. Excellent choice for families as lots to see and do in the outdoors. Farm animals and a playground, games room something for everyone. Also grandparents were able to stay in beautiful barn which was very luxurious.

Really friendly and knowledgable reception staff (think her name was Emma) who made us feel warm and welcome on arrival. Found the perfect pitch with Alpacas and Sheep as neighbours. Site was well kept, clean and tidy. We also appreciated the detail they had gone to with the pretty lights and extras around the site. The kids loved the open fields, park, rabbits, black cat, woodland adventures and having the freedom to go on adventures together whilst we were happy they weren’t too far away and were safe. There were lots students doing Duke of Edinburgh awards which did make the main toilet block busy in the morning however, all were polite and there were plenty of other facilities dotted around. They were located on the big field so were no bother at all and the kids enjoyed seeing them. Site was in a great location with two local pubs and an easy walk to the Druid rocks. The nine ladies is apparently close too however, we enjoyed the site that much we decided to play cricket on the field and plan to return to do that walk with friends over the summer.

We stayed midweek, during term time and it was very quiet - can imagine it's very popular with families. The site is beautifully maintained, with excellent facilities and lovely views. Obviously a lot of thought and effort gone into it.

Brilliant stay. I'd wanted to have a location where we could do country walks without using a vehicle. As it turned out, Stanton Moor is right on their doorstep. Well worth a visit, very good facilities. Would recommend this campsite to anyone.
