Was okay VW-Type Campervan - Fully Serviced Gravel Pitches Jul 2024 The campsite is set on an old fort.
The reception people are not over friendly and did not tell you anything about the site, other than just giving you a leaflet with information on for you to sort out for yourself.
When finding our pitch which had water and electric, it was time to find the toilets, showers and washing up facilities, which where so far away from where you camp that you have to plan when you need to go, this is a real put off when you have kids.
There is an onsite indoor swimming pool which is really good and the main reason I booked as you can't guarantee on the British weather. There is no shop on site and the nearest shop is a good 20 minutes walk away down a massive hill, so be ready for the walk back up again. There is a lovely beach with is on a side of a cliff, so lots of down hill steps to get to it which you have to remember it is the same on the way back up, but when down there, what a lovely beach it is, with activities you can hire to go into the sea with.
There is a pub on site where the food and drinks are in good supply but not a lot going on in the evenings, other than a quiz on a Wednesday night and music Friday and Saturday night.
This is a place for old people for the fact that there is nothing other then the swimming pool on site for the kids to do.
Holiday Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Fully Serviced Gravel Pitches Jun 2024 We pitched our caravan on a fully serviced pitch. It was excellent having our own facilities (drinking water, grey water waste, toilet waste and electric hook up).
It was so quiet where we were and we could actually see a glimpse of the sea and headland in the distance. We had a delicious roast dinner at the restaurant which was great value for money and the staff were very polite and helpful. Cawsand and Kingsand are stunning.
We'll definitely return again. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
Nice position Recommends site
Sprinter-Type Campervan - Fully Serviced Gravel Pitches Jun 2024 Nice position, pub and area great. Shower room good, but only one so our first pitch was really far from toilet. Unfortunately I think pitches not very well maintained, overgrown with weeds. Staff friendly and helpful. Stunning views of beaches and sea.
Great spot Recommends site
Motorhome - Fully Serviced Gravel Pitches Jun 2024 Interesting site within the walls of an old fort. We chose a fully serviced pitch which was perfect for us. It was sheltered due to being in the moat! The pub and restaurant was good with great service. The pool looked nice although we didn't use it. Our only complaint was the showers and toilets. They were clean and serviceable, but there were only 2 showers and 2 toilets and they were a long way from our pitches! The site is building new lodges - I think they should build another toilet block nearer the serviced pitches (we were on pitch 44).
The area was beautiful and this site is a great base touring the Rame peninsula.
Windy Whitsand Recommends site
Motorhome - Fully Serviced Gravel Pitches Mar 2024 Two hurricanes in two days makes my review a little jaded.
Having said that, at calmer moments, we did get to the swimming pool which was excellent. Not being able to shop on site felt more restrictive this time because of weather making it unsuitable to walk to the nearest shop. It is a popular site for good reason, and the buses do run every hour and on time.
Site's response
Thank you Nigel for your positive review despite the weather, definitely one thing out of our control!
We take your comments on board and might look at shop items being available in our next season either through the bar and restaurant or reception.
Interesting and scenic place to stay Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Fully Serviced Gravel Pitches Jan 2024 Very quiet when I stayed in January but the indoor pool and café/bar were still open. It's best to book a time for the pool in advance as they keep numbers down, which prevents it getting too crowded. The pool is lovely, quite big, and was warm and spotlessly clean.
There are amazing views out to sea and a little path down to the beach from just across the road. You can also see inland towards Plymouth and Dartmoor beyond that.
I had a fully serviced pitch with drinking water, grey water disposal, hook up and Elsan disposal, all on the very spacious level pitch.
Great site Recommends site
Motorhome - Fully Serviced Gravel Pitches Nov 2023 Nice site and location. Pub and restaurant on site and a swimming pool.
Very accommodating site Recommends site
Single Axle Caravan - Fully Serviced Gravel Pitches Sep 2023 We only stayed one night and were very impressed with the cleanliness and availability of facilities. The staff at reception were extremely accommodating with our requests.
Beautiful spot, but missing some key features Single Axle Caravan - Fully Serviced Gravel Pitches Aug 2023 It can't be denied that the views from this campsite (the banks, not the majority of pitches) are fantastic. The sea and great beaches are directly below. It's a very steep 10 minute walk down to the beach.
The pitches are large and water, waste and electricity are all very close to each pitch. The pool is a great bonus- hourly slots are bookable at reception. The changing rooms are fairly new and kept clean. There are inflatables on weekends. The toilet and shower facilities are less clean with the floors looking like they need a good mop throughout our stay.
There's a wetsuit washing area, washing up and laundry rooms- all quite high spec .This campsite has a lovely, well appointed restaurant and adjoining vaulted ceilinged bar, which serves good food and has a lovely atmosphere.
The campsite is missing 2 things - a shop and a play area. The campsite is a fair drive away from any villages and amenities (down very narrow lanes!) so a small shop selling bread, bacon, beach toys etc, would be really useful.
A play area is really useful for children to make friends, (a vital element of our children's holiday!) so they're not just hanging around the tent or caravan when home.
The beach is the huge draw for this area and, for that, this area is worth visiting.
Motorhome mini break Recommends site
Motorhome - Fully Serviced Gravel Pitches Aug 2023 Quiet cliff top location. Outstanding view out to sea from cliffs. Site built on an old fort with some fortifications still in place.
Bus stop opposite entrance with regular routes to Plymouth, ferry and surrounding area. Good, clean facilities and excellent bar serving great value food. Staff were friendly and helpful. Access to beach is down a steep cliff path opposite park.
Happy caravanner Recommends site
Single Axle Caravan - Fully Serviced Gravel Pitches Aug 2023 Loved the site but think it could do with on site shop. Then would be brilliant.
Good break away Recommends site
Sprinter-Type Campervan - Fully Serviced Gravel Pitches Jul 2023 Was a good break away but I wouldn't recommend going with children as there's not a lot to do with them! But other than that, it was a good break away.
1 night stay Recommends site
Motorhome - Fully Serviced Gravel Pitches Jul 2023 This place is awesome- right on a cliff edge in the middle of nowhere but staff were so friendly and the barn restaurant had such a lovely atmosphere and great service - we were seen to as soon as we arrived at the campsite and the grounds are beautiful- toilets and showers were clean.
I would go back anytime, thanks.
Amazing camping on a beautiful beach! Recommends site
Motorhome - Fully Serviced Gravel Pitches Jul 2023 Nice pitches with a great view and the beach is absolutely worth a walk! We loved it!
An interesting site with great amenities Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Fully Serviced Gravel Pitches Jul 2023 I would definitely recommend this site, it has well maintained campervan and caravan plots that are very big to allow for your vehicle and awnings etc. The shower and toilet blocks were clean and had good water pressure, great for a nice hot shower.
We didn't get to try the Sunday lunch but if it's as good as the breakfast, I'm sure it will be amazing! We had a vegetarian and a traditional Cornish breakfast and they were great value for money and very tasty. The restaurant has real character having been built into the interesting landscape.
The whole area has a lot of military history.
Great place with very friendly staff Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Fully Serviced Gravel Pitches Jul 2023 Whitsand Bay Fort is a peaceful campsite located on the beautiful coast near Plymouth.
It is perfect for families with dogs - all of the staff are very dog-friendly there.
There is a pub right on the site, which serves a very good English breakfast with vegetarian and vegan options.
Outstanding view and very modern Recommends site
Single Axle Caravan - Fully Serviced Gravel Pitches Jul 2023 Whitsand campsite was so beautiful that we stayed longer than planned. Everything is very modern. The restaurant is dog friendly and the food is very good.
Whitsand Large A-class or Tag Axle Motorhome - Fully Serviced Gravel Pitches Jun 2023 There were some difficulties regarding the location of the site. These are both from the point of view of the roads leading to and from the site, as these are extremely narrow and challenging, as well as access to the beach and/or other facilities.
Fab site Recommends site
Sprinter-Type Campervan - Fully Serviced Gravel Pitches Jun 2023 Lovely site, with friendly staff. Shame there wasn't a little shop on site, but I'll remember that on my next visit.
