Lovely view but facilities are not great VW-Type Campervan - Electric Hardstanding Pitches Jul 2024 Beautiful campsite with an amazing view. The fire pits really add to the whole experience. However, toilets and showers are not clean, probably the worst we have seen during our trip.
Not impressed Small Tent - Non Electric Bramless Fixed Pitches Jul 2024 After booking the most expensive pitch, on arrival we were told we have been 'upgraded' to the better pitch which was cheaper on booking site. We were told the field we had booked was full of lamb mess, but she can put us there if we like!
We didn't want that obviously, so we had to camp in area we didn't book, which was very cramped and had to park our car far away from our designated pitch and carry everything up hill! Facilities are not great either. Male and female sharing with toilets, showers, washing up sinks and fridges all in the same room. Kicks up a funky smell, especially when people are spitting in the sinks whilst we wash up our plates! Also, ran out of hot water at points so cold showers were taken.
Some staff felt rude and not welcoming! Overall, I think this campsite was expensive and not very user friendly! Won't be returning!
Site's response
Hello Joe, firstly, I am terribly sorry to hear that you weren't happy with the pitch selection. I see you had booked bottom of Bramless, so unsure why you would have been moved, as we have had to keep sheep in Little Mead due to grazing demands, allowing folk to book that pitch and either rub shoulders with fluffy sheep, or to have a more expensive pitch for the same price. I'm sad to hear this wasn't how it worked out for yourselves, as we try to ensure to help any problems with our guests when they're with us.
The toilet block has been the theme of year, it's in need of a desperate upgrade and we are very aware, and have plans to renovate it over the winter. Also boiler issues resulted in the water being cold, this has also now been resolved.
We would rather our guests didn't spit in the sink either, but hopefully they're behaviour isn't reflecting on us. We hope you can at least understand that we provide fridge and freezer as an option for our guests, with the open plan toilet block being common practice among most campsites, such as beads over the entrance to prevent birds getting in.
For the rude staff, our onsite wardens have been having a tough time as of recent, but this should never reflect on our guests, so we appreciate you letting us know as they will be leaving us to find more friendly staff. First impressions are everything and we have heard multiple un-welcoming reports, so are working to resolve this too.
Hope this makes things a little clearer, albeit we can't change how your stay was, we hope you join us again to see all of the changes, as we would be happy to have you.
Beautiful place Recommends site
Medium Tent - Electric Grass Pitches Jul 2024 Very beautiful place, nice people.
Quiet site Medium Tent - Electric Grass Pitches Jun 2024 Positives. We chose location to be near the coast which worked well.
Pitched good each with your own fire pit and logs for sale each day. Site wardens lovely, chatty and helpful. Washing facilities good with draining boards either side of the sinks and a bowl available. Fridge and Freezer to store food which worked well for us as we had frozen raw food for our dog.
Plenty of hot water and not charged for showers. It's a working farm but this did not cause any issues for us, nice to see the sheep being herder and you are able to explore countryside via a permissive pathway.
Negatives were the toilet & showers. They were the disappointing aspect and not what we've experienced elsewhere. Cleaned daily by wardens (except Mon & Tues) but the showers in particular are old, stained and mouldy.
Beautiful site Single Axle Caravan - Electric Hardstanding Pitches Jun 2024 Beautiful site. Friendly hosts. Toilets could be cleaner.
A few nights away Recommends site
Medium Tent - Electric Grass Pitches Jun 2024 Not a bad little campsite.
Has a little shop, café, showers etc. We climbed Old Man of Coniston, which wasn't far, about 20 minutes. We also drove to Bowness on Windermere one day and got the boat to Ambleside, which was nice.
Stunning location Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Electric Grass Pitches Jun 2024 This lovely site has a beautiful location but it's easy to miss the entrance.
Look for the Cumbrian Horses sign. Don't be put off by the steep road, the site is there in a stunning valley part way up the hillside. A lovely stream runs through the site and we were treated to watching a heron often waiting in the water.
This is a working farm with sheep and horses in fields. Jamie, who was very welcoming, came to see us just after we drove up and gave us lots of information about the site and area. It was superb to be able to light fires at night and sit around the firepit. Each evening bags of dried logs were brought round for sale if required. The toilets and showers were quite basic but were cleaned each day and showers were hot. There is a farm shop and café providing food and meals (I cannot comment on this as we did our own cooking.
The site attendants, who live on site, were friendly and gave us advice and local knowledge. We were given a warm welcome and thoroughly enjoyed our short stay. There are many main attractions just a few minutes drive away. The site suits all types of groups, families, friends, couples and also is great for young children. They are dog friendly which suited us very well.
Wish we could have stayed longer.
Stunning location great toilet and shower Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Non Electric Bramless Drive-On Pitch May 2024 We stayed at this campsite with our rooftop tent. We loved the warm welcome and the fact that we could pick a location together with the owner. We had lots of privacy, met very nice people when we borrowed a can opener and the location is absolutely stunning. The facilities (toilet, shower and dishwashing) were great, spacious and clean. The one thing we didn't like were the scones from the cafe, we both managed just one bite. Overall, great experience and we'd come back again in a heartbeat (in combination with Broughton Village bakery though). We keep looking back at our pictures of this beautiful spot!
Incedible Medium Tent - Electric Grass Pitches May 2024 Such a brilliant campsite. The staff were so friendly and welcoming and the views were incredible. Absolutely loved our stay and can't wait to come back again.
Great spot Recommends site
Small Tent - Streamside Non Electric Grass Pitches May 2024 Lovely spot to stay, out of the way of the busier areas of the Lakes, but still some beautiful scenery, walks and places to visit. A great site, lovely to have a fire outside the tent and sit by the stream.
Back to how camping is supposed to be Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Non Electric Bramless Drive-On Pitch May 2024 The warden was a star, really helpful.
Lovely family campsite Recommends site
Large Tent - Electric Grass Pitches May 2024 Baystone is a lovely family run campsite, the owners were very helpful. Each pitch has its own fire pit which is a great idea and I like the big mat they provided to put outside the tent. There is lots of walking trails to do around the site. We enjoyed our stay it was very peaceful with great views 🤗
Weekend stay Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Electric Grass Pitches May 2024 Unfortunately, we didn't have the best weather but tried to make the most of our stay.
The site is basic, but has everything you need including a little café with lovely friendly staff. Location was lovely but a little hard to walk on the roads as no footpaths, so we drove to the beach for our walks. The views were lovely and the site had a little stream that I had a little dip in.
Lovely stay.
Beautiful little site Recommends site
Medium Tent - Streamside Non Electric Grass Pitches Apr 2024 An absolutely beautiful little campsite nestled at the foot of the mountains. Not too far from the beach or lakes and peaks.
Lovely staff. Had to share the field with sheep and their lambs which made the experience all the more magical. Some stunning short walks all in the vicinity of the camp. A picturesque little brook runs right through the middle.
With yurts, bell tents and wigwam pods to electric hookups and non-electric pitches, this campsite has everything you need. Also, the pizza place in Millom is perfect for those long days when you really can't be bothered to cook.
Great stay, friendly staff Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Electric Grass Pitches Mar 2024 Lovely stay, pitch was quite waterlogged but staff did their best to accommodate and to make sure we could pitch.
Very helpful friendly staff, especially as we arrived later than anticipated. Campsite beautifully situated, cooked and ate breakfast next to the stream when the sun was shining!
Would definitely stay again.
Pleasant stay Recommends site
Sprinter-Type Campervan - Electric Hardstanding Pitches Mar 2024 This site was really comfortable. Nicely laid out and very convenient for touring the Lakes.
We were two adults with two border collies, so there's plenty of room for exercising the dogs. It's lovely to see the livestock on the farm and be in those surroundings where it's quiet. Everyone was really kind and helpful. A well stocked shop is a plus.
We are certainly coming back for a longer stay.
Rolling hills and a babbling brook! Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Electric Hardstanding Pitches Feb 2024 A one night stay(first night in our campervan). The site was quiet, the welcome was fantastic and friendly with helpful instructions.
We would definitely stop again.
Decent little site Recommends site
Large Tent - Electric Grass Pitches Sep 2023 Decent little site with a small on site café and small shop. Not too far away from the beach and/or local town for groceries etc.
On site showers and toilets, nice and clean and the pitches are worth the money.
Site's response
