Small Tent - Electric Grass Tent Pitches Jul 2025 I stayed for 3 nights while attending 2 events at Powderham Castle. The walk to the event site took 50 minutes to 1 hour, just follow everyone walking to the event from Starcross train station.
The campsite itself is a little oasis, secluded in it's own little tree lined valley with a small stream down the middle along with a sectioned off area for some chickens. You also felt secure as vehicles need a code to enter the site. It has a mixture of hard standing and tent pitches, my tent pitch was level but it looked like not all of them were.
There were 5 separate toilet and sink cubicles in the amenities area 2 each for men and women and 1 unisex. 2 of the cubicles also have a shower which is on a £1 for 7 minutes meter. As long as you remember to take your £1 to the shower 😄 it's no problem because it's a good shower. There is also a washing machine available also on a meter and to my personal joy, a very small but useful communal freezer so I could keep rotating new freezer blocks into my cool box for the whole time I was there. You can also buy Wi-Fi, which I did as my O2 4g was struggling at times.
Thanks for a lovely stay.
Amazing stay, clean and quiet Recommends site
Sprinter-Type Campervan - Electric Hardstanding Touring Pitches Jun 2025 Perfect stay, greeted as we arrived and shown to spacious hard standing parking and awning space and a leaned area too. Sat next to a big pond with duck and geese with babies on.
Facilities were immaculate 24/7. As was the whole site. Peaceful site with lovely views.
Only a 10 minute walk in Starcross which has a few pubs , a shop. 9 hole golf course, trains and buses from the village. North towards Exeter and on. And south to Dawlish, Paignton onwards. Ferry service across to Exmouth well worth the trip. Or just relax in the peace and quiet onsite.
Adult only site.
Hunters lodge review Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Electric Hardstanding Touring Pitches Jun 2025 Most beautiful location very peaceful, great railway links.
Well maintained pitches.
Lovely resident little red hens, and a couple of Canada Geese families with their babies.
Had a lovely time and will definitely be back.
Vey pleasant small site, nicely laid out Recommends site
Sprinter-Type Campervan - Electric Hardstanding Touring Pitches May 2025 The site is in an ideal location, close to a bus route along the coast.
We had a friendly welcome and were given plenty of good advice. The site is close to the ferry from Starcross railway station, for a nice boat trip to Exmouth. Note - the beach at Exmouth is dog-friendly, all year round, which was good news to us, as the Warren is not.
If the shower facilities could be updated, and without an extra charge and the Wi-Fi also not being extra, I would give it five stars overall.
Always stay here Recommends site
Medium Tent - Electric Grass Tent Pitches Aug 2024 Great site, adults only with plenty of room per pitch. Been many times before and will always try them first.
Very good campsite, will definitely camp here again Recommends site
Large Tent - Electric Grass Tent Pitches Aug 2024 Very clean showers and toilets. Very quiet. Had a lovely weekend.
Nice site Recommends site
Single Axle Caravan - Electric Hardstanding Touring Pitches Aug 2024 Nice little site, great location for train-spotters.
Lovely, quiet and small campsite Recommends site
Large Tent - Electric Grass Tent Pitches Aug 2024 Very clean and tidy site, well maintained. Each tent pitch is clearly marked with hedgerow and the hardstandings are also well maintained. Small site with owner living on site, who is readily available if you need help. Good facilities and all in a relaxing, quiet area not far from shops etc. Good place to come and relax in a child free site. Really enjoyed our stay with our dog.
Perfect campsite Recommends site
Medium Tent - Electric Grass Tent Pitches Aug 2024 Perfect campsite, clean facilities. All pitches have electricity and are maintained scrupulously by Paul.
On arrival, we were greeted by Paul and had a choice of pitches to choose from. There's a code to enter the into the bollard for everyone entering the site so it feels secure and safe. There's hot water in the showers, £1 for 7 mins, so remember to bring coins. In the Laundrette, there's a washer, a freezer for ice packs and a washing up sink with plenty of hot water to clean your dirty dishes.
The whole campsite is run so efficiently that Paul makes it look easy and we had a comfortable camping holiday. So much so, we can't wait to return. I left my spare glasses on our pitch which were posted back to me which I think proves that Paul goes that extra mile for his guests.
I wholeheartedly recommend Hunters Lodge Camping and Caravan, not least for its excellent location, with a bus stop nearby and a short walk to the village. Starcross that has a mainline train with a ferry as well. There are a few pubs that serve food that even had an option for vegans, so we were pleasantly surprised.
Great start to a Devon adventure Recommends site
Sprinter-Type Campervan - Electric Hardstanding Touring Pitches Aug 2024 Lovely stay. Can't wait to return again.
Great stay Recommends site
Trailer Tent - Electric Grass Tent Pitches Jul 2024 Excellent stay in a great location at this adult only site.
Site is well laid out, grass pitches with electric were private, with hedges separating the pitches. Facilities were clean, there are two shower rooms and two toilets - fine when the site was quiet as it was during our stay, may be busy if site was full (but is a relatively small site).
Great value, would definitely return if in the area.
Our stay Recommends site
Single Axle Caravan - Electric Hardstanding Touring Pitches Jul 2024 I would not recommend. Poor approach road, very poor exit. Feel it needs more toilets and showers.
Great adult only site Recommends site
Large Tent - Electric Grass Tent Pitches Jun 2024 Great adult only site, very clean and well maintained and the owner was very friendly and helpful.
The site is within walking distance of two very nice pub/restaurants and you can also walk to the ferry port that takes you across to Exmouth. Plymouth and Torquay are also less than an hours drive as is Dartmoor.
The camp has a relaxed and laid back atmosphere, and is generally quiet and peaceful (people tend to respect the 10pm "quiet time" curfew). The only down side was that the site was not far from Exeter airport and the planes come over when taking off, there are also a lot of helicopter activity in the area (air rescue/ambulance I assume, and some military ones too) and the road that runs along side the camp is quite noisy and is busier that expected (it looks like a quiet country lane) especially in the morning (people going to work I guess). For some people this is not a problem, but if you are a light sleeper like me, you are likely to be woken up a few times during the night/early morning.
There was no shop on site (which we knew) so it was a trip to the local supermarket to get provisions etc, There is one shower for men and one for women, not a problem if you timed it right, so limited facilities but the facilities that are there are good, clean and well kept
I would recommend it, but be prepared for the odd disrupted night, but that is not the fault of the campsite, just where it is located and what is going on around it.
Bank holiday trip Recommends site
Motorhome - Electric Hardstanding Touring Pitches May 2024 We thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay at Hunters Lodge; the daily visit from the ducks was adorable. Facilities could do with a bit of love but were always clean and well stocked with loo roll! Intermittent hot water for washing up. Thank you for a pleasant stay.
Peaceful Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Electric Hardstanding Touring Pitches Apr 2024 Beautiful place, very quiet and understated. Simple and clean facilities. Very happy with the site.

Sprinter-Type Campervan - Electric Hardstanding Touring Pitches Oct 2023 A very friendly welcome on arrival. Perfect site for access to local area by bus, train, ferry and bicycle.
Very pleasant surroundings amongst hens, ducks and geese. Facilities very clean.
Will definitely be returning.
Great little campsite Recommends site
Large Tent - Electric Grass Tent Pitches Aug 2023 Great little campsite. Facilities were clean. I think another set of showers would be a good addition as always having to queue, but to be fair it was the August bank holiday weekend, which may be the busiest time of the year. Pitch was in good condition considering the weather we've had recently.
Great if you want to bring your dog. Plenty of walks nearby and there are dog friendly sections at Dawlish Warren beach.
Peaceful campsite Medium Tent - Electric Grass Tent Pitches Aug 2023 We loved the peace and quiet of Hunters Lodge, but found there wasn't much to do close by especially with a dog. However, there is a train station, which is really close by, meaning you can explore further afield.
We had some lovely good at The Atmospheric (a pub by the station) and good drinks at The Anchor Inn (the other side by the harbour).
There were only 3 toilets and 1 shower (per gender) which I imagine would get really busy when the campsite was fully booked. The facilities were also quite old. There was no hot water available for washing up dishes.
Overall, a good stay but, for us, we just needed a few more things to do!
July camping trip Recommends site
Medium Tent - Electric Grass Tent Pitches Jul 2023 Lovely location, friendly staff. Facilities were very basic, but had all we needed.
Dreams come true Recommends site
Medium Tent - Electric Grass Tent Pitches Jun 2023 Wow what an amazing site, stayed 2 nights and I wish it was longer. Got an amazing welcome from the owner on arrival, will definitely be going back again.
Amazing place to stay Recommends site
Medium Tent - Electric Grass Tent Pitches May 2023 Each pitch has privacy and loads of space.
Really good location - short walk to the pub by the harbour and Starcross station. Also, the host was really helpful and friendly.
Very helpful and pleasant Recommends site
Motorhome - Electric Hardstanding Touring Pitches May 2023 Fantastic site and owner. Couldn't have been more kind, especially when our motorhome broke down. He had a look but it was obvious that it needed a new part and Paul (the owner) contacted a local mechanic, who came to the site and fixed the problem.
Absolutely brilliant help and service.
Would definitely stay again Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Electric Hardstanding Touring Pitches Oct 2022 Lovely peaceful campsite with a friendly helpful owner. Only feedback would be to perhaps put sensor lighting in a few areas to guide people to the facilities on a night time.
Autumn break Recommends site
Motorhome - Electric Hardstanding Touring Pitches Sep 2022 Small, quiet campsite. Ideally situated for bus, train and ferry access.
Great little site Recommends site
