Non electric grass pitches

Set by the river's edge, Allington Lock Camping and Cabins offers a traditional camping experience in nature. There are eight non electric grass pitches for those bringing their own tents, or opt for one of the timber-built Scandinavian-style cabins, each sleeping up to four (you will need to bring your bedding). The cabins are kept simple and snug. Dine al fresco with the site's pizza oven, BBQ, and covered picnic area. Dog friendly too.

Our girls had an excellent time on the lock. Peaceful location with plenty to do. Refreshments seconds away and the Kentish lady can sail you into Maidstone. Graham was very helpful and super friendly. We'll be back 😀

First time staying at the site and it was lovely. Quiet and relaxed vibe. Location is great and right alongside the Allington lock. Perfect for walks along the river Medway or catch the boat (Kentish Lady) Into Maidstone. Toilets and showers available. Perfect for solo or couples camping.

Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesAug 2025

We came to allington lock campsite for a short break. What a beautiful place to stay. Absolutely idyllic surroundings. A little slice of paradise. The camping site itself itself is small. One glamping pitch, two cabins, eight tent pitches. So book early to save dissapointment. Facilities are basic, but there's everything you need, when camping. Toilet, kitchen, shower/ wash room. Our host Graham, was always available on whatsapp for all of our needs. A delightful gentleman. I am loathed to recommend this site, purely because i want to keep it my little secret, and 100% we will be returning next year.

Large Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesAug 2025

We're a family of four and really enjoyed our stay at Allington Lock Campsite. It's a small, convenient site that makes a perfect base for exploring the local area. We walked along the river Medway into Maidstone and back, and enjoyed evening walks every day. While the lock area gets busy during the day, it never felt overcrowded, and by the evening it's beautifully quiet and calm. The facilities were clean and well-maintained, with a cleaner coming by daily, which we really appreciated. The owner also came by to introduce himself, which was a lovely personal touch. We had a great time and would definitely come back!

Absolutely lovely campsite in a perfect location if you love being by the water. We spent an afternoon watching the boats pass through the lock which was very entertaining at times! The facilities were clean and the site well kept. The cabin we stayed in was clean and tidy and the beds were comfy. We will be returning in the future for sure!

Ideal Campsite!

A beautiful campsite with very pretty views of the river. Ideally located at the end (or beginning) of the River Medway Canoe Trail, it is ideal to end or start your kayaking trip. The campsite has a delightfully secluded feel, but is a stone's throw to a lovely lockside café and a riverside pub. This has been my second stay at the campsite and I am already planning my next visit! The campsite manager Graham is very friendly and helpful. Thank you Graham for a lovely stay!

Our stay at Graham's cabin was great. As advertised, the cabin does not have bedding, so bring your own! The cabin was basic but enough for a good night's sleep. The facilities were good. While the logistics of getting booked in are a little complicated, Graham was incredibly caring in ensuring we found our way to the cabin at night. He even phoned us to make sure we were clear with the check-in process. He went the 'extra mile' to ensure we would have a good stay. Check-in is a bit clunky but it all worked fine. The location is great. Right on the river, next to the lock. And a great little canteen serving lovely food with outdoor seating. I recommended this cabin as a good cheap-ish place to stay. And Graham is lovely.

Tranquility by the river

This campsite is a little plot of land set next the River close to the castle at Allington Lock. It was easy to find and the site is kept to a very high standard all the facilities were clean and well presented. I felt safe and secure during my stay even though I was on my own. Being by the river there is so much to see totally relaxing to just watch the boats go by or if you fancy there are lots of scenic walks to enjoy with no need for getting back in the car. I would highly recommend this as a destination of all travellers including families wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life for a few days at a very reasonable cost. Added interest there is an amazing coffee kiosk on the lock and if you are a keen runner on a Saturday morning there is a beautiful flat parkrun that takes you all along the river towards Maidstone and back. Whats not to like!

Great location, not at all crowded

Great location, not at all crowded, and loads to see and do locally. Had a great four-day stay at this quiet campsite right next door to the River Medway. Was a bit worried about the self check-in but the instructions we received when we booked were clear and easy to follow. Loads to do locally, pub the other side of the river, little coffee shop and a trip boat into Maidstone town. Facilities were cleaned everyday and the shower was piping hot. Pitches were large and flat. Only slight downside was there's no outside lights, so needed a torch. Will defo return.
