About the site

Easy to reach and in the heart of one of the only 18 Dark Skies Reserves in the world, this adult only (16+) site is a peaceful setting for those looking to escape to the Brecon Beacons National Park, with incredible views over the Black Mountain. The site has blended the best bits of wild camping and organized camping. Here you will find peace and quiet, a sense of remoteness, an escape from noise and crowds, a backdrop of nature and vast night skies. There are 12 non electric grass pitches for tents only, and two separate pitches for campervans and roof tents. Each one allows a maximum of five people only, allows gazebos and has its own fire pit, perfect for warmer evenings. You will also find it a great location for exploring the Brecon Beacons National Park, with lots of hiking, motorbiking and cycling routes nearby, as well as places of interest such as the Red Kite Feeding Centre, National Showcaves, Botanical Gardens, Dolaucothi Gold Mine, Dinefwr Park, Carreg Cennen Castle and many more. Facilities onsite include a camp kitchen equipped with a kettle, microwave and fridge freezer. 'The Firepit' Café and Bar also serves hot drinks and a selection of beers, wines ciders and spirits. The converted horse box bar is sited next to a communal covered gazebo over a large fire pit to keep warm on chillier evenings. Dogs are welcome onsite when on the lead and they will love running through the surrounding countryside!

A note from the site themselves...

Bob and I moved to Wales during the pandemic, when both our industries stalled overnight - Bob worked in theatre and I in events. Having dreamed of a smallholding in the countryside for many years, we recognised that this was our opportunity to 'break out' so we sold up near London and set off on our great big Welsh adventure.

Our first glimpse of the Brecon Beacons was driving over the Black Mountain Road and as our mouths fell open in awe at the dramatic views, we knew that this was the place for us. Within three months we had made the move and then spent the next three months taming the wilderness around us into a working campsite.

Bob and I like to think that "if Carlsberg did campsites", it would be like Cosmos Camping. Quiet, tranquil, stunning mountain views, epic night skies and fluffy balls of sheep scattered across your horizon but just not in your tent! Actually the neighbours sheep do occasionally break in but that just adds to the experience, and 'encouraging' them off site makes for entertaining film footage.

Life here is a lot of fun. It is also a place of extreme beauty and calm. We love sharing this with our campers and want them to feel like they have joined a very special club, one they can come back and visit whenever they want or feel the need.

VW-Type Campervan - Non Electric Grass Campervan PitchJul 2025

I genuinely cannot fault anything about this campsite. The location was picture perfect and ideally placed for travelling. The facilities were more than adequate and spotlessly clean. The attention to detail was far and above what I expected. There was also a heatwave! Having the onsite food on Saturday was a bonus and very tasty. Bob was very welcoming (I didn’t really meet Alix) and nothing was too much bother. This was a thoroughly enjoyable break for my first ‘proper’ time away as a solo camper. Many thanks to you both.

Site's response

We hope to see you back here at Cosmos Camping sometime soon and Alex has an opportunity to meet you properly :) In the meantime, wishing you safe travels and more camping adventures.

It was my best stay during Brecon Beacon hike

Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Tent PitchesJul 2025

Best caring couple, Alex and Bob, who run this camp, look after everyone to make sure they feel comfortable and welcomed! It was my best stay during Brecon Beacon hike. Alex and Bob solved my health issue (hogweed) and saved my journey with immediate help! The camp is very clean, with all equipment (Wi-Fi, chargers with all different incomes, kettle, tea towels) The view of the mountains is gorgeous and you can buy a very nice, strong coffee before you go in the morning! Very recommended to stop here! ❤️

Site's response

So glad the rest of your walk went well and we were happy we could help you continue your trip. It was lovely to meet you and if you're ever passing Cosmos Camping again, you'd be most welcome to stay a little longer next time. In the meantime we wish you safe travels. Bob & Alex
