Lovely gem of a site near Keswick Recommends site
Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass Tent Pitches May 2026 I'd stayed at the Fieldhead site (Edale) a few years ago and loved how charming it was, so I was keen to try this site as my friend and I regularly visit the Lakes.
Kestrel Lodge campsite didn't disappoint us. I enjoy the simpler camping style, a little off track, and not commercial, so it might not appeal to younger children. But for us, the peaceful surroundings were a welcome respite from a busy life.
The site has a small utility area and toilet block but it is very clean and the showers aren't those push button showers (which was nice to have a full shower without having to keep pushing a button every ten seconds!). There is also a honesty shop with a great selection of items that you might need / just fancy a bit of chocolate after your walk, and a couple of chairs you can rent out for your stay which is so thoughtful - especially if you're backpacking or doing the Cumbria Way and can't pack a lot of gear.
The pitches are just standard (no electric) but each have their own fire pit for chillier nights.. we will definitely be using these when we visit again! Wood is also provided on site.
The site does also have 3 pods of varying sizes which are powered by solar panels, so if you did want a little bit more luxury and a way to charge your phone, these would be a great option.
The undercover picnic area was also a welcome addition so we could sit together properly for meals (or if it's raining!) and we were pleasantly amused by the local chickens and ducks who came over to have a nosey at what they could scrounge.
There is a pub not too far from the site that serves good grub and friendly service. Gives a respite from the weather if it's a bit dreary or you've had a good day of walking / exploring and want a hot cooked meal and a pint.
Altogether, Kestrel Lodge was a lovely and peaceful gem of a campsite that was a pleasure to stay at and we can't wait to come back again.
Excellent campsite!! Recommends site
Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Tent Pitches May 2026 Really nice campsite at the foot of Skiddaw, facilities were really good too, on site shop, toilets, showers and a laundry facility. Staff were super friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this site and will definitely return!

Best campsite ever, love it! Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Electric Hardstanding Campervan/Roof Tent Pitches Apr 2026 We love everything about this place. The facilities are so well thought out. A secure dog park, a reading nook, plentiful fire pits. The little shop is stocked with essentials.
Lovely hot shower and everything is very clean. The couple who run it are absolutely lovely. We can't wait to go again and it will be even better when the weather is a little kinder.
Lovely pub down the road too with vegan options. Also, having a no children policy is a welcome break from the noise.
Great campsite Recommends site
Medium Tent - Electric Grass Tent Pitches Apr 2026 On arrival, we were shown all the campsite amenities and shown to our pitch site. We took our dog with us and there is a doggy field at the bottom of the campsite with toys, dog mess bags and water for them.
The shop has enough stock that is required if you have forgotten anything and has an honesty box shop outside for out of hours. The shower and toilets were clean and modern and they have a wet room for busy periods.
The only thing that let the camping experience down was the weather.
Lovely quiet site! Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Electric Hardstanding Campervan/Roof Tent Pitches Mar 2026 What a little gem! Beautiful views, great location - 15 minute drive from Keswick, but also with lots of options for walks straight from the campsite.
This was the most peaceful and quiet site I ever stayed on. Facilities are very good and clean - my only tiny complaint is that washing up sinks are very low, so for someone like me - tall with bad back - it was quite uncomfortable to use them. That will not put me off from coming back to Kestrel Lodge Campsite next time I plan to visit Lakes.

Great location, thoughtfully laid out Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Electric Hardstanding Campervan/Roof Tent Pitches Sep 2025 What a lovely find! This site is quiet and thoughtfully laid out. It is situated on higher ground so little risk of floods.
A good pub not far away, serving food (20min walk). Great for dogs with toys in the 'dog library', and a secure field to run in.
We we were in a camper, hardstanding with EHU. All facilities great. Will go back again, as it is very well placed for hiking.
Fabulous stay Recommends site
Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Tent Pitches Sep 2025 We had an amazing stay at Kestrel Lodge.
It's in a fab location, beautiful views everywhere you look. Facilities were kept clean, only 2 ladies toilets which wasn't ideal over the weekend when it got busier, but during the week it felt like we had everything to ourselves. Charging lockers (£3) & freezing facilities (free) useful. Nice space for washing up. Drinking water taps dotted throughout the site. Showers hot but not very spacious, could do with updating. Useful having the honesty shop, didn't use it ourselves except for firewood and fire lighters (£13 for both together, £8 for just a bag of wood).
Each pitch has its own fire pit which is a fab idea- we had a fire going almost every night as the weather was lovely. Loved having the chickens and baby geese wandering about!
Peaceful, remote, quiet spot, deceptively big spacious pitches. Great base to spend time between Cockermouth, Keswick and all the peaks/lakes in between (even brave enough to have a swim in one!).
Wasn't an issue having to park away from pitches, as the gravel road made it easy to unload the car and there's a few little parking spots dotted about the field so the car is never too far away. They even provide wheelbarrows if you need one!
Can't wait to visit the area again and would definitely consider staying here again!
Great first time stay Recommends site

Large Tent - Electric Grass Tent Pitches Aug 2025 Campsite in a great location. Very quiet at night with no large gatherings which is good.
The honesty shop is an excellent idea. Showers need a revamp in my opinion, you need more, probably more modern as well. Possibly like a portable toilets on a trailer. You could make it say £1 a go to pay for the new showers etc. The fresh water is bit of a trek to certain tents, maybe another down by the carpark etc. Swingball needs a new tennis ball.
Wasps and flies can be a real problem on the site. Selling wasp and fly catching kits could be a real money spinner. All in all, 4/5 in my opinion - always room for improvement, mainly the wash facilities need a bit of TLC or revamp. I have seen other sites offering mobile food services certain nights of the week. Burgers/pizzas etc - could also be a new earning avenue. Maybe a playpark for kids.
Nice site Recommends site
Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass Tent Pitches Aug 2025 Very well kept site, clean facilities, level and good sized pitches. Owners helpful.
Lovely Lakeland location and views.
Would benefit from another shower or two… along with some more parking places.
Overall very good.
