Motorhome - Electric Hardstanding PitchesMay 2023

An idyllic site with spectacular views. The only downside is that I would have liked more info beforehand about how to get to the site and a warning about the long single-track road to get there (I would have been more prepared and it would have helped with my anxiety). The woman who welcomed us at reception was very helpful and lovely. The lack of mobile signal didn't deter us but it would have been helpful if we'd known beforehand (to let family members know not to worry if they couldn't get hold of us) and that there was a cost.

Small Tent - Grass Camping PitchesMay 2023

We found it very useful that we could rent a fire pit as the reception was open 9am-9pm. Toilets and facilities as a whole were very clean, as well as the surrounding areas. Would highly recommend for a quiet weekend away.

Medium Tent - Grass Camping PitchesMay 2023

This campsite is so lovely, I can't wait to re-book to come back. The staff were so helpful, the facilities were clean and they have a shop on site which didn't break the bank! Ideal for families or friends looking for a calm weekend. Really enjoyed having the waterfalls right on the door step!

Small Tent - Grass Camping PitchesApr 2023

One of the loveliest campsite I've ever been to. Streams and waterfalls run just feet away from pitch. Some of the cleanest facilities I've seen, with showers better than the one at home. Would definitely recommend and will be returning.

VW-Type Campervan - Grass Touring PitchesApr 2023

Wow - a lovely place! Very quiet on Sunday evening, the lady on reception was excellent! Waterfalls are great and the view is superb. The only challenge was the entrance road was very narrow in a motor home, fortunately mine was expedition 66.

Lovely place

Large Tent - Grass Camping PitchesApr 2023

Lovely place by the waterfalls. The hosts were really helpful and kind. Nice walks around the camping site and at very close distance. My family and especially the kids had a lot of fun. Definitely recommended.

Small Tent - Grass Camping PitchesApr 2023

What a beautiful site this is, by far the best-looking value and with the waterfalls and walks. This is a fantastic place to stay, the only bad thing I have to say is that the little shop should be a bit better stocked. The staff are really helpful and polite...everything you need from a campsite in an idyllic environment. Beautiful place, see you next year.

Very picturesque site

First the good part. The site itself is very picturesque with the river running through it and the pitches are well laid out and not overcrowded. The toilets and showers are very modern and clean. But, and for us it is a big 'but', all the above is spoiled by a culture of far too many do`s and don'ts presented to you from the minute you arrive, in paper notices about noise, dogs, etc. Secondly, and more annoyingly, they charge 50p for a shower, which I thought was cheeky. If you want WIFI, you are charged a price per day, or multiples thereof, but only for one device. If you need to use another device, you pay again. This adds insult to injury and we will not be returning. In addition, there is absolutely no phone signal at the site, and the road/track up to the site is very steep and narrow, with sheer drops on one side, not for the feint hearted!

Site's response

We thank Simon for his review but obviously disappointed with aspects of his findings. His description of an array of do's and don'ts can be considered as a slight exaggeration of what every client actually accepts on arrival. The first sheet (which can be downloaded from the website) is an information sheet gathered from questions that have been asked in the past! The only two rules that we insists (and I'm afraid Simon's disagreement will not change anything) we insist on dogs being in total control at all times and on a lead. Our campsite is part of an 800 acre Hill Farm with an abundance of Sheep and Lambs to which unfortunately we loose on average 1 Sheep a year to dog attacks. We think we have a right to protect our animals and livelihood. Recently, we introduced a 'no music' rule, simply because we were inundated with complaints from fellow Campers about this issue. Unfortunately, loud music in a quiet site might be music to the listener, but to everyone else, it's the constant bass beat and a complaining issue the next morning, which we as Campsite owners and you as paying guest can do without! As regards to the extra charges, again all charges appertaining to this site are clearly illustrated on our listing, on which Simon made a booking. We charge a per person rate and a charge for electricity, we don't charge for an awning, under 4's, an extra car, a gazebo or a pup tent! Our charge for a shower is 50p for 5 minutes. This nominal fee (which has remained the same for 14 years) prevents the general public from using the facilities and also prevents guests having long showers, thus reducing waiting times. It works well and will continue! Rural retreats come with fantastic advantages but also no phone signal, no mains water, no mains sewer, and diabolical broadband! In order to provide these urban pleasures it has meant substantial investment, especially broadband, and it is a service that has to be chargeable (again, clearly illustrated on our website) you can of course opt not to use Wi-fi! Maybe one day, we shall all benefit from 5G and will not require a broadband facility, believe me it would make our lives a lot simpler! As regards to road to site being steep etc. Welcome to Wales Simon! One thing we can't do is move Nantcol Waterfalls to the side of an A road for your convenience!
