Heritage Coast Campsite

Excellent location, staff and amenities

I highly recommend this site. Philippa, who is the proprietor, was extremely helpful. She phoned me on the day of my visit to ensure that I was OK with the arrangements. When on site, Philippa gave me information re- tide times, as the beach area is rocky and only has sand at and around low tide. I was also advised about local amenities, including the pub which has excellent staff, drink and food. Not to mention a warm fire The local walks are beautiful, including the walk to the beach via a waterfall and to the lighthouse. On my last day, I was unable to attend an end of season drink organized by Philippa. She had organized it for the campers and local people. The drinks were free! This illustrates how kind and caring Philippa and her husband, Glyn, are.

A week in Wales

Our first stay in Wales, so was unsure what to expect. When we arrived on the Saturday, the site was packed with a mixture of tents and motorhomes, the check in was easy and we were directed to our pitch which was a good size. The listing had advised that the showers were operated by a 50p charge but on inspection, they were free, not sure if this is a seasonal thing? When we woke up Sunday morning, we were quite surprised that the site was nearly empty, it seemed that most were there just for the weekend. A few more overnighters came in and out throughout the week but we were mainly on our own in the field which made it quiet, but not much going on to observe. We decided to go to the beach on the Sunday but found the experience a bit challenging and felt very disappointed as this was one of our main reasons for picking the site. The walk through the woods was steep and extremely rocky underfoot, which made it difficult for us to navigate and when we eventually made it to the beach, it was even more disappointing as you would have needed to navigate a very steep and rocky decent and there was no beach, just large rocks, and we could not get on as it was to unsafe for us and we did not go back. The site had a onsite cafe/bar which for some reason, is only open Friday evening to Sunday morning which was a shame, (as per the listing) which made us think the site was more geared up to weekend visits and not a full week. It would have made our experience much better if this facility was available everyday. On the whole, a clean and tidy site but just lacked a 'wow' factor for us and we felt quite isolated/lonely. The beach experience was a definite downer. Not a site we would visit again for a week, more a stopover site.

We are sorry to hear you had a disappointing visit. We are surprised you did not come into our Cafe which was open from 8.15 am to 10am Monday to Friday. In the cafe we have tourist information including a tide clock and maps and encourage our guests to visit the cafe as we are available to give local information, maps and access to the tide times. This is a coastal and rural location with beautiful walk across the Heritage Coastal Path, the access to the beach is via a conservation area which opens at Cwm Nash Beach. You say there was no beach, unfortunately you must have visited when the tide was in, when out there is extensive sand. Again, we are sorry you did not enjoy your visit. Philippa.

Fabulous new find!

After a bad experience/rapid decamp on my last trip to South Wales, I was both relieved and delighted to arrive at The Heritage Coast Site to find that it offers exactly what it says on the tin, plus more. A safe and very scenic site, perfect for myself as a solo traveller with dog. Appreciated the single person discount too! We loved the walk down to the beach and returning to the site to watch the sun setting. Lovely hot showers and everything very clean too. We will definitely return again. Thank you.
