About the site

Located on a headland, this family friendly site is great for those after a fun-filled Scottish escape. Enjoy a range of fantastic facilities, like a toddler splash pool and adults only sauna, all while being just a 15 minute drive from the nearest beach! The site has 45 gently sloping grass pitches for guests to choose from, suitable for tents, roof tents, tourers, trailer tents, campervans and motorhomes. These are available both with 16 amp electric hook up or without. There are also static caravans onsite as well as seasonal touring pitches. You'll never have a dull moment at this site. Whether you're hoping to bring your rod and enjoy some sea fishing off the rocks or play a spot of golf on the putting green, there is plenty to keep the adults entertained! What's more, there is so much for the little ones to enjoy. From the toddler splash pool to the soft play area, volleyball, sports field and arcade room, the options are endless. In the summer months, guests can even enjoy the unheated outdoor pool and the site's very own kids club! Your pups are welcome to join you for your stay, with up to two dogs welcome per pitch, and the bar and cafe are pet friendly. If you're after dinner al fresco, BBQs are permitted, please just make sure they are raised off the ground. Open fires are not allowed.

There is a communal facilities block with toilets and showers. The site has its own water supply, but it needs to be boiled before it can be drunk safely. Onsite, there is also a coin or token-operated launderette and free WiFi.

There is a well-stocked onsite shop for picking up essentials as well as a cafe with indoor seating offering breakfast, mains, light bites and takeaways. Headland Bar is the site's licensed bar, which has an adults only room with darts and a snooker table, a games room, an outdoor children's play area, and live cabaret evening entertainment.

Please note that the cafe and bar's opening times vary throughout the year. In Winter, the bar is open from 5pm to 10pm on Friday, 12pm to 11pm on Saturday and 12pm to 7pm on Sunday.

Onsite is also a nine-hole pitch and putt, crazy golf (with golf clubs available for hire), soft play area for children under seven, a small volleyball court and football pitch, an arcade and an onsite spa with a heated indoor jacuzzi pool, toddler splash area and an adult only sauna.

The site's 25m outdoor pool (open from Easter weekend to September, subject to weather conditions) is open daily during the summer holidays and has sunloungers around it.

There is also a range of events put on for children, including a kids club (available five days a week during the school holidays) and quiz nights. Guests can also go sea fishing from the Burrowhead rocks at the edge of the site.

Please note that facilities are open at reduced hours between the months of November and April.

I don't know if we were just unfortunate with this campsite. It's in a beautiful location and we lucked out with the weather. The shop on site has basics so definitely take your food shop with you, won't ever make that mistake again. There is a Co-op about 30 minutes away but that's the nearest. There was meant to be a kids disco on the Saturday night but the staff decided to cancel it and do bingo instead for about 4 people - very disappointed. They then went on to do scheduled bingo afterwards as well. The pool is a great addition but it is not heated but the kids were fine going between that and the jacuzzi. Guests then arrived that night and were screaming, shouting and swearing at their kids until 4am, it was absolutely horrendous. There kids were playing in the park until 4 and then they were playing music from their caravan with the door open - no staff were on site. We've camped for years with our kids and I've never experienced anything like it, it totally ruined our trip and has put me off every going back. All the toilets were out of toilet roll on the Sunday afternoon so needed to ask staff to restock. Beautiful location, perhaps we were just very unfortunate. Lovely coastal walks, great park for the kids and mini golf as well as the arcades. Just gutted about the kids disco, appalled by the families and their behaviour that night, and a severe lack of stock and options at the shop. The café wasn't up to much either. So very mixed.

Check in fine, what we would expect from a site. Camp area fine. Showers were attic temperature and toilet block dirty. The worst thing was the second night - two mums with lots of children and foul language left to do as they pleased while the mums got on it, think they thought they were at a rave! Kids on the park till 3am while the mums sat in the car with loud music and again, acting like they were at a rave - this was between calling the kids names and stumbling about. No quiet time all night, only quiet the next day while the were on a come down letting their kids again be unsupervised all round the place and being little horrors! If you book, stay away from the pitches near the playground where they keep their tourer as they were absolutely vile!

Things to do on site and in the Newton Stewart area

There is a lot to do onsite for families. There is a games room with board games, pool tables and soft play for all to enjoy. Or, practice some golf with the crazy golf, the pitch and putt.

For those seeking complete relaxation, a sauna room and a heated jacuzzi are available. There is also an unheated outdoor swimming pool for guests to enjoy during the summer months, as well as a splash pool and fun slide for the little ones to enjoy (out of season, the indoor pool facilities are available by appointment only).

For all year round fun, there is an outdoor play park and a football field to entertain the children.

If you want to venture outside the park, there are some great coastal walks nearby. However, the track is quite close to the cliff edge, so it isn't suitable for buggies. Sandy beaches are within a five minute drive.

For some other great nearby beaches, it's just a 25 minute drive to Rigg Bay or St Medans Beach, so take a picnic and enjoy the caves and rock pools at low tide!

In the opposite direction, you can take a 50 minute walk, or five minute drive to the quaint harbour village of the Isle of Whithorn, where you can enjoy the local restaurant, a tearoom. In the town of Whithorn, you can enjoy a walk around the priory or visit the roundhouse and museum to learn more about St Ninian and his pilgrimage.

The local beaches and the rocks at Burrowhead allow sea fishing, so bring your rod!
