A note from the site themselves...

Paxton House has a fascinating past and has been watching over the River Tweed for centuries. It was built in the mid 1700s as a grand Palladian home, created to reflect the style, success and ambition of Patrick Home of Billie. After travelling across Europe, Patrick chose this high spot above the river to build a beautiful new house, hoping it would become the centre of his future life.

Plans changed, and before long, Patrick inherited another estate at Wedderburn, which took him in a different direction. Paxton House was later passed on to his cousin, Ninian Home, who had made his fortune overseas and wanted a smart and fashionable home back in Britain.

Since then, the house and grounds have continued to grow in character, welcoming visitors to explore the history, gardens and riverside setting that make Paxton such a special place today. We even have one of the largest Chippendale furniture collections in the world!
