Great campsite Recommends site
Large Tent - Electric Grass Pitches May 2026 Myself and my 5 year old camped for three nights.
This is a great campsite for a family with kids of all ages (or big kids only!) with plenty to keep you busy onsite. We were lucky with the weather and were able to enjoy the lakes in lovely sunshine. There's a great paddling area for the kids, play areas, and my son loved his first go at kayaking in the main activity lake. I also introduced him to fishing for the first time.
The separate fishing lakes were well stocked and almost every cast with his "whip" he was landing roach in the margins; he asked to do this everyday! Great Lakes for first timers, as well as the more experienced angler with bigger carp to land. The campsite itself was great - large flat area of well kept grass, plenty of space to pitch tents of all sizes, plenty of space for kids to play, and great views out over the lakes. Not overcrowded despite being half term. We enjoyed the walks available around the lakes too, and my son especially enjoyed seeing the donkeys!
The showers and toilets were clean and accessible, plenty of availability. There was also a cafe onsite that looked great but didn't get a chance to try it. Staff really friendly and helpful at reception. We will definitely be returning very soon!
A great stay Recommends site
Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches May 2026 We had a great stay at Allerthorpe. Close to the York Road, it was convenient for visiting both York and Hull and there were services nearby, including fuel, although we had to go to Pocklington for a larger supermarket.
The main lake was a great advantage with a safe space for children's swimming and paid water activities. We did paddle boarding and loved it. There were also walks around the four lakes which we did every evening.
The showers and toilets were kept clean and there was a covered area with sinks for washing up pots. People kept the noise curfew so it was quiet at night.
The only disadvantage was no shop on site and we had no facilities for keeping things like milk cold, particularly in the warm weather. They did sell ice cream at reception and there was a good cafe that opened until 17:00.
We really enjoyed our stay at Allerthorpe.
