Budle Bay Campsite is a five minute walk from Budle Bay, within 15 minutes of Bamburgh Castle and Holy Island. Tents and tourers can choose from a range of grass and hardstanding pitches with the option of electric, or opt for a cosy glamping hut. The village of Bamburgh is five minutes away, home to sand dunes and a beautiful beach. Enjoy dark skies at night, with nearby boat trips taking you to the Farne Islands, home to puffins in the summer!

The staff were friendly and helpful. The shower and toilet facilities were fine for a campsite, with a decent pot-washing area and free fridge and freezer use. It's near to Bamburg castle and great as a central base for several other towns. We camped and the pitch was pretty level and close to the river...it was nice to listen to the river as I was falling asleep.

Thanks for your great review, Jeremy - sounds like you had a lovely trip. You'd be very welcome back in the future!

Simply awful. The first signs of it being so was when the pitch I booked had 'all of sudden' become sold out. Having paid £85 for two nights - electric hook up for a caravan - I was told the only option was to take an upgraded pitch 'by the riverside' for £100. Reluctantly, I paid this. Upon arrival, there were plenty of 'standard' pitches available for the two nights. The allocated pitch was too tight to reverse the caravan into - so we had to unhitch and have some help pushing it into place. The site is made up of a mixture of long-stay caravans, tents, campervans and tourers. I feel that all the facilities are outdated and in need of refurbishment and proper cleaning. How they can charge even £20 a night is beyond me - let alone £50. No Wi-Fi option and 4G is non existent. Overpriced, under-invested, barely clean, unkempt site.
Site's response
Hello Andrew. You made a provisional booking request through Campsites.co.uk. Sadly, we were almost entirely full - you booked to stay on Friday night in the middle of August (school holidays, peak season, great weather!) but we were able to find space for you, so you didn't miss out. You did not need to take that pitch, and could have very easily decided to go elsewhere if you thought the price wasn't right. Re: no WIFI or 4G - we are a campsite, in the middle of one of the most sought-after and desirable areas of natural beauty in the UK. Open your eyes, enjoy the nature and wildlife around you, and have a chat with others. Maybe you'll find camping and escaping from technology every once in a while is for you after all! Thanks for your review.

Stayed in the 7 person hut and loved it. Kettle, toaster, fridge and microwave in the hut if you don't want to eat out. Amazing pizza van nearby but order early! Huts also have key access to another kitchen with a hob, pots and pans and a sink to wash up in addition to the campers sinks. Unfortunately, the toilets are all shared and take a torch as it it very dark walking from the huts at night. The hut was not very clean would be my only complaint. I actually think they had forgotten to clean it before we checked in as it was really bad, but these things happen and we had wipes, and found a dust pan and brush in the kitchen so sorted it before unpacking ourselves. The site was nice and quiet at night as promised, so great for families. Location was good in terms of short journeys in car to lovely beaches, but we thought with it being on a coastal path, we would do more walking. Unfortunately, this isn't possible with small kids and dogs as it is along a busy road and not all footpath. Loads to do a short drive away though. Not much for older children on site. Ours thought they had found a nice covered seating area but turned out this was only for the bunkhouse.

A lovely site in a great location for visiting different places and superb restaurants. Beaches are fabulous and the site had everything needed for our stay. A very good toilet and shower block and a washing up area all a very short walk from our pitch. Will definitely visit again.

For our short stay, the closeness to brilliant beaches, walks, and tourist centres was exceptional. The hut was basic but adequate, with a kitchen and washroom facilities close by.

Fab stay in a great location with great facilities. My only gripe would be that the shop could open earlier. We had a wonderful stay though, and will definitely return. 😊
Site's response
Hi Rebecca. Thanks for your lovely review! We'd love to open the shop earlier, but our staff already work long hours, sometimes still working after 10pm, so we've got to allow them time to rest!

After reading some pretty negative reviews I was a little anxious about our stay but it turned out far better than expected! We booked an extra large camping pitch with electric hook up that backed onto the river. Loads of space and not on top of our neighbours. Toilets clean with handwash provided and loads of loo roll. Showers only lukewarm and no separate changing area but more than adequate. Separate dish washing facilities and lots of drinking water taps. No club house but a good kiddies play park. Beautiful location and I would stay again, don't be put off by the negative reviews as I'm fussy and everything was clean!

Campsite was nice enough. Had showers, toilets and washing up facilities, although not very clean and probably not enough for the amount of pitches there are. We were lucky to get a pitch toward the end, but the pitches closer to the entrance felt cramped!
Will definitely book again

We had an amazing stay in the cabin. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The site is quiet and very well looked-after, the sky is full of stars at night, and we saw 3 shooting stars, it was absolutely gorgeous. Will definitely be booking again.
Site's response
Hi Michelle. What a lovely review - thank you! We can't promise shooting stars every night, but we hope you get lucky again on your next visit. See you soon!

Really enjoyed our stay at Budle Bay and would recommend for any first visit to Northumberland. Location is excellent for Bamburgh and Seahouses with Lindisfarne and Alnwick also nearby. The site is very peaceful with a small shop and children's play area on site. There are also some great walks across the stream, which we unfortunately only found out about on the last day. The toilet facilities are a little dated, however overall, the site is very well maintained by the excellent and friendly staff and Lizzie and Hannah are usually on reception to welcome you with a smile. Make sure you also try out the Pizza Van (Northumberland Artisan Pizza Company) situated next door, but book early before they sell out!

Very helpful, friendly staff. Location is great and beautiful. Facilities not so good. Not enough showers in my opinion and the ones they have could do with a more thorough clean. Very weak pressure in them, so definitely not enough to get a good hair wash. They have a shop on site, not open that much but it's stocked with essentials.
Excellant stay, really nice site

Well organised, clean facilities. Set out off road. 15 mins walk to closest beach. 1.5 hours to Bamburgh via beach. The site did what we needed it to. No footpath on road to village. Make own arrangements to get back when dark. Pitches are quite close together.

The site has very small spaces for a lot of campers. The toilets and sinks were dirty. The showers are still acceptable. Translated from German
Site's response
Hi. Our site is correctly spaced to meet regulations, whilst also allowing everyone enough space on their pitch.
Very busy campsite

We booked a large riverside pitch and paid extra, hoping it was going to be peaceful, but it was the busiest campsite we've been to, with almost every pitch taken. Seemed to have many long term caravans in situ. It was hard to see any 'green areas' and it felt like everyone was crammed in. Just our personal opinion, it may have been as it's during the main holidays but still many long term, unused caravans there. Some pitches looked very small so we're glad we didn't have those. Plenty of toilets and showers. Good location for visiting local places.
Site's response
Hi Sarah. Thanks for leaving us a review. The middle of the school holidays in August is always going to be a busy period for a popular Campsite unfortunately! Add to that the poor start to the Summer weather-wise - coupled with the sudden change to great weather in August - and you'll find most Campsites very busy! We are glad to see everyone having a great time and enjoying the peak-season sunshine!

Lovely campsite with good facilities. Friendly and helpful staff. We liked that they have a multitude of accommodation to cater for different needs, not just tents and caravans, but also for backpackers too, with cold storage facilities. Child and animal friendly. Only thing I would potentially majorly down for is the lack of Wi-Fi. However, I haven't as this is also a bonus point for some, as kids actually out playing with their adults and entertaining themselves and each other, and enjoying the outdoors. Would recommend and also return ourselves.

This site is value for money and in a good location. Hardstandings are very snug and the shower and toilet, we didn't use as they're very outdated. Also, there's a great pizza to had here.

You usually get what you pay for. Not here. Came home two days earlier than expected. Shower facilities poor and toilets poor. It's a shame because at these prices, it should be so much better. Way overpriced lovely location.
