Set in a small orchard, Monarch's Way Campsite offers a peaceful, almost wild camping stay, ten minutes from Sherborne. Tents, campervans and motorhomes can pitch up on non electric grass pitches surrounded by fruit trees. There is also a fully furnished bell tent. Located along the 625 mile Monarch's Way footpath, you will be within easy reach of idyllic walking routes. Families and dogs are both welcome, with evenings spent cooking up a BBQ!

About the site

Offering guests the chance to switch off and reconnect with nature and loved ones. This almost wild camping site is set amongst a sheltered orchard in a scenic Dorset village, away from the noise of crowds and busy towns. The site offers a total of 32 non electric grass pitches, each dotted amongst small fruit trees, ideal for shade in the summer. Each of the tent pitches measures a spacious 13m x 8m allowing up to six guests, whilst the touring pitch welcomes those in campervans, measuring 13m x 9m and allowing up to eight. For those after a glamping getaway, there is also a fully furnished bell tent on site for two adults to enjoy. A double bed, two singles, bedding, a BBQ, a fire pit and logs are all included in your stay. The rural location means the surrounding wildlife is also thriving, so keep an eye out for birdlife, bees and any animals looking to treat themselves to an apple or two. Be sure to also take the short five minute walk to the nearest pub, the perfect place to find out recommendations from the locals. Evenings can also be spent cooking up a BBQ or by the firepit, but ground fires are prohibited. Four-legged friends are also welcome to join you for your stay.

This site is open for the Easter and late May bank holidays, and the summer holidays.

Motorhome - Non Electric Grass Touring PitchAug 2025

We absolutely loved the campsite it is essentially a cider apple orchard field with compost toilets and drinking water and a great place to observe nature. If you are looking for peace and quiet and a relaxing stay, this is a great way to escape. The hosts are lovely and come to see us in the morning in our campervan. It is a real free and easy apporach. There are loads of wildlife to see including bats which fly around the orchard at night. Some of the trees had fallen over in a previous storm which the hosts were sorting out which we would love to help with my other half being an arborist! But this didn't distract from a great peaceful top stay in the wild next to a really pretty village.

Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Tent PitchesAug 2025

My too short stay at Monarch's Way was so great, I would definitely come back anytime. In brief: great welcome message from Jeremy who I could meet in person and have a nice discussion about the place and apple trees. You have everything you could expect from true, natural camping. A great site, kind of up on the hill, so means it could be windy but you enjoy late sun and a great view. The equipment fully respects the place, beautiful church and best local dining pub just nearby, public path crossing the site. The only thing I missed (maybe an improvement?) is a shower, even small solar heated tap in a closet would be perfect. This was my last day in England and the best conclusion to my round hiking trip. Loved the place.

Bell Tent - Bell Tent Aug 2025

Great balance of off-grid camping but still with useful facilities. I had a beautiful few days at the campsite staying in the pre-pitched bell tent. The tent was more well provisioned than expected so I actually didn't need to pack half of what I brought. It may be an idea to make a list of all the equipment there and put it in the listing to help with packing. One thing which may be helpful to add is a small chest of drawers or something with a bit of storage for clothes etc, rather than having to keep them on the floor. The washing up/pantry area was really helpful and the tent was well located, close to the toilets but not too close! Running water close by as well. Personally, I like to camp without power so I don't have a problem with lack of electricity, I think it adds to the peaceful feeling at the site. Perhaps a solar or battery powered communal fridge in the pantry area would be a good addition. There are badminton rackets and table tennis available to play which is good for something to do if you get bored. The orchard itself is stunning and my favourite thing about it was the feeling of being surrounded by nature. I enjoyed listening to the birds and insects and imagining how many different species I might be hearing at one time. As a solo female camper, I felt safe at the site, the only slight thing I was wary of is that there is a public footpath running through one side, but I had my dog with me which made me feel secure. The local pub is really nice and very close by, with good quality well cooked food and a stunning view from the beer garden. I love the fact that the couple running the site grow vegetables which supply the pub. They also make cider from the apples in the orchard. If you like to camp in an eco friendly way and appreciate wildlife, then this is definitely the campsite for you. I would say that the price for the bell tent is on the higher side when comparing to similar stays, but the location and how quiet the site was made it worth the cost for me. On my last day I was lucky enough to have the site to myself for the whole day which was a unexpected bonus. All in all, I would definitely come back and stay again, and I selfishly hope that the owners don't add too many mod cons in future, so that the site retains its tranquil feeling.
