Camping pitches

Enjoy life close to the Northumberland Coast at Coast and Castles Camping, which is tucked into an AONB and conveniently set only a mile from the beach. This dog friendly site is a great choice for walkers and cyclists - near St Oswald's Way - and has its own bar with an undercover seating area for socialising outdoors and a playground for the kids. Chic bell tents for a hassle free stay, too.

VW-Type Campervan - Non-Electric Hardstanding Campervan PitchesAug 2022

Great location and bar onsite was a bonus with lovely bar staff. Self check in on campsite but I didn’t see any members of staff at all anywhere. There was a problem with blocked loo and a pungent aroma filled air. A shop of some kind on site would have been good as there are none around.

Needs improvement

VW-Type Campervan - Non-Electric Grass Campervan or Camping PitchesAug 2022

A good campsite for a short stop over but the facilities need urgent improvement. Location is good, pitch size was excellent. There was some confusion over electric hookup but that was minor. Gin shack was good Not enough washing up facilities, not enough showers or toilets and due to the way they've been constructed, they were cold as the wind whistled through. The showers had poor water pressure and the main block needs a building to surround it, the facilities were a disappointment.

Relaxing stay!

Excellent stay, we'll be back and would highly recommend! Enjoyed a drink at the Gin Tin our last night - impressed with the facilities.

Small Tent - Non-Electric Grass PitchesAug 2022

A lovely campsite in an excellent location. All facilities were more than adequate. Simple rules, simple check in. The site was very peaceful indeed. An added bonus being the play park for children, the bar and pop up pizza van. The only disappointment was the lack of recycling bins. Easily rectified maybe?

A fab time with a lovely atmosphere

Medium Tent - Non-Electric Grass Campervan or Camping PitchesAug 2022

Had a lovely two night stay with some beautiful views all around. It is about 1 mile or less from co-op and couple of miles from Alnwick. Was a little windy and some rain but didn't dampen our visit. There was a little play area in the centre of the site and a pop up bar that was really nice. Would definitely stay again, so relaxing and beautiful.

Amazing place!

We stayed for 3 nights (2 families with 4 children under 6, youngest being 5 months old) the facilities, space and locality are all fantastic. We couldn’t have asked for more. The cleanliness was on par with any hotel- toilets and showers cleaned regularly through the day. It felt so safe for the kids to play. We will definitely be returning very soon!

Will go again

Large Tent - Non-Electric Grass PitchesJul 2022

Lovely campsite with nearly everything you need for a great trip and in an ideal location for exploring Northumberland. They are working to hook up solar power to some pitches, which will be great and it would be really useful if there was some way to freeze ice packs when they do. It wasn't a surprise as the site clearly states no ice pack freezing and no power, so we did prepare as best we could but it would be a great addition.

A must for all types of campers

First time campers. My son and I would highly recommend. Very good sized pitches, very clean toilet/showers and washing up facilities. All round clean and tidy. Nice bar, not too expensive. Loads to see locally, beaches, sites of interest, cafés and walks. Everything said, it was a fantastic experience and we will definitely be going back on a regular basis.

Great location with good facilities. A very open layout with nothing between adjacent pitches, so felt overlooked.

Great location, great facilities!

Small Tent - Non-Electric Grass PitchesJul 2022

Although there was no one on site to greet us, the information was displayed well on the notice boards and each site was marked well. The campsite had some nice sheltered spots between hedges, which is needed on the coast! The facilities of toilets and showers were good and kept clean. The pop-up bar in the evening was a great idea but as it's outside, it needs to be good weather. A great location which is still a work in progress, but I would certainly return to it in the future.

Cosy campsite with clean facilities

Small Tent - Non-Electric Grass PitchesJul 2022

It was small and cosy. The bar, showers, toilets and seating area were in the middle of the campsite, which made it close to most tents. There is a lot of wind which made it pretty cold in the evening and during the night. The tents are also kind of close together, which is not necessarily a problem, but we had some loud kids around us.

Great site

Lovely site, with very clean showers and toilets in wood huts. Relaxed dog friendly site. Would definitely recommend. Phone signal and internet signals were excellent.

Really cool campsite, on what looked like an old part of the nearby RAF station (no planes fly overhead though!). The only thing that would really improve the site is the availability of hookups, which I believe are on the way.

Newish business that is clearly developing. Good location. Nice, hospitable people, great bar. Very clean loos and showers but rustic and a bit breezy - you can get rained on when you are on the loo if the wind is in the right direction! We would go back though.

Small Tent - Non-Electric Grass Campervan or Camping PitchesJun 2022

It's a really nice campsite with a good atmosphere, convenient location and I liked the bar! Overall, for the price, I thought the facilities were rather basic. There's no shower block as such, just wooden pop ups for the showers/toilets, which are fine if it's warm, not so good if it's a little chilly. Having said that, I enjoyed my stay.

Superb campsite

Large Tent - Non-Electric Grass PitchesMay 2022

Loved this campsite. Having just left we are planning our next visit. We like small quiet basic campsites to give you the feel of wild camping but with some facilities. The camping spaces were well spaced out and the facilities nice and clean. Not many local places to eat but the local co-op was fab so with cooking facilities you can eat at the tent. We love Northumberland so this was a perfect quiet spot from which to base ourselves when visiting all of our favourite places. We will definitely be going back for longer stay.

Bell Tent - Bell TentsMay 2022

This was my first time camping and didn’t really know what to expect! The location could not be better, the staff were friendly and helpful. The toilets and showers were clean and a pint of Madri at Gin Tin was excellent. Would recommend and would definitely return!

Large Tent - Non-Electric Grass PitchesMay 2022

We absolutely loved our stay at Coast and Castles site and can't wait to return! The site is lovely and staff very friendly. We did have to wait for the facilities a couple of times (not very long) but the site is still in work in progress. Talking to others on the site, you'll either love it or hate it. We LOVED it (The toilets and showers are in in wooden cubicles in the middle of the field). The site is basic, but done very well. All facilities were kept clean and well stocked. We became regulars at the Gin Tin on site while the kids played, it was great for all. There isn't much of a staff presence, it's self check in, there is a phone number to call with any issues. Very chilled out break away.

Lovely site - will return

Large Tent - Non-Electric Grass PitchesMay 2022

Loved this site. Easy self check in, spacious pitches and immaculate toilets/ showers. Loads of space for kids to run around with playground and swings. Lovely little bar area, and being able to have a campfire is a real plus. Our only disappointment was another group of campers who think the rules don't apply to them, and so were still playing music and singing at nearly midnight (quiet time 10pm). There's no warden on site to monitor this, so it was down to other campers to ask them to keep the noise down on more than one evening. Whilst this particular group were good natured about it and did turn the noise down once asked, it could have become awkward had they refused.
