Howgill Lodge is located close to Bolton Abbey in Wharfedale, offering hardstanding pitches for caravans and motorhomes and grass pitches for tents. The site is terraced to give spacious, level pitches with lovely views across the valley. Set in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, on the Duke of Devonshire's Chatsworth Estate, Howgill Lodge is surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside in the UK.

Nice clean campsite in a great location. Nice walk to nearby villages and river walks on the doorstep. The facilities are really good, although it can be a struggle for toilets as a few were out of service on our stay. Wasn't a problem but did mean we had to wait a little. Will definitely return.

The site is well kept, though the access "road" (which serves other businesses) is in poor condition. Signage to the site itself could be improved - don't make the mistake, as I did, of thinking that Howgill Farm is connected to the site! The reception staff on site were very friendly and helpful. My only minor grumble is that the toilet and shower facilities nearest to where we were pitched were closed off from Sunday morning and unavailable for the rest of our stay. I assume this was done as many campers were only there for the weekend. However, aside from us, there were still around nine tents (approx 20 people) who then faced a bit of a trek to the toilet block near to the entrance of the site. Not a massive issue, but hardly convenient, especially through the night. The café adjacent to the site (Brownies) is really worth a visit for either breakfast, coffee and cake or pizza in the evening. The Craven Arms (lovely 30min walk) is absolutely brilliant and now in my top five of all pubs! We will be back!

It is a simply stunning campsite, impeccable facilities, toilet and shower block were so clean, the site itself is very tidy. It is ideally placed for numerous walks in this stunning countryside just over an hour from Leeds. My only niggle is that Pitch 12 we were on is a little bit on the wonk, even with levelling ramps, but the terracing they have used for the pitches means everyone gets a great view unblocked by any other vans or tents. Exceptional campsite and will come back.

We took our 3 year old daughter for the first time camping and what a wonderful experience she had! The site was excellent and the facilities, I can not fault. The pitching area was flat and with a great view. Unfortunately, the area had been used a lot, so a lot of the grass had died and left a bit of a mud patch, which wasn't ideal to pitch on top of especially as we were forecast for heavy rain. Luckily, we had a separate ground sheet.
Lovely, well maintained site

We had a great time here on the Howgill Lodge site, facilities were excellent. Road access was not the best for caravans and larger motorhomes. As lovely as it was, we would not visit again due to the narrow and very steep country lanes.

Very well equipped campsite. Lots of clean toilets and hot showers, huge fridge/freezer to use, nice sinks for washing up. Great views from most of the pitches. Nothing was a problem for the staff, would highly recommend and we will be back. Only small issue was a few of the grass pitches were becoming well worn and starting to become bare soil, which was fine in the dry weather we had, but in the rain, might be a bit of a mud pit.

Would absolutely return to this campsite. The amenities were plentiful and always clean (and exceeded my expectations for a campsite). There was plenty of info and a map received on check-in, fire pits were a great addition and the mini shop with morning coffee and pastries was much appreciated. It is a perfect location for walking (reception will print out some walking routes if you ask) and the Quiet Time rule was mostly adhered to. There is even a Brownie Barn down the lane (very short walk) that had lots of brownies, breakfast and lunch foods, smoothies and hot drinks, plus pizzas to pre-order for evening pickup. The areas of improvement for me is to provide something to dry hands with in toilets after 10:30pm, as they turn off the hand dryers for the night. Also a bin area for those lower down the campsite, as the only one is near the reception, up the hill. This campsite has a steep hill connecting the top to the bottom that you must climb if camping on the electric grass pitches, so please note that if you're at the bottom end of the campsite and have accessibility needs, it may not be suitable for you. Also hot water wasn't working in the nearest toilet / shower block for most of our stay, an unavoidable issue but did mean a few cold showers had to be had! Final comment is that a lot of people did not adhere to keeping dogs on leads at all times. Not good for the nervous or reactive dogs who were kept on leads, or those who just didn't want a dog running up to them. It would be good for more reinforcement of that rule.

Exceptionally clean toilets and shower facilities. Brilliant washing up areas and the fridge/freezer and washing machine and tumble dryer are nice features, particularly in wetter months! The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and they were flexible when we asked to move to another pitch - nice quiet area away from the majority of the site, which we liked. The onsite shop was great, selling all the essentials including gas cans for portable stoves etc and you could buy fire pits with logs from them. Nice additional touches of tea and coffee and pastries in the shop (plus sausage sandwich to pre order if you'd like). Great for dogs too, with it being a dog friendly site and not too loud, so nothing to disturb them (other than the occasional rabbits and pheasants running around!) Finally, the Wi-Fi is a great touch, especially for those wet days or if you're with kids. It worked across most of the site! Great walks to go on directly from the campsite including up to Appletreewick to the brilliant Craven Arms pub. Beautiful scenery and very peaceful. Also, about 200 metres from the camping site there is a great café (Dales Kitchen) serving lovely food and drinks and options to pre order pizzas for the week evening (and really nice brownies!) Overall a really enjoyable stay and would highly recommend!

We stopped camping due to inconsiderate, noisy campers. We chose this site as it has quiet hours and warden patrol to give camping another go. We had 3 peaceful nights.
