Sunnyhill Campsite is on the edge of 3 of the south west UK counties giving us a unique location for exploring this part of the world. In the middle of nowhere but not far from anywhere. This site lives up to its name, with stunning sunrises and sunsets, along with farm animals to meet. Spacious grass and hardstanding pitches are available, EHU, shower block, as well as 2 (or more) glamping options.

About the site

Only two hours from London and easily accessible from the A303, the site offers a rural base within easy reach of top attractions. For tents and trailer tents, there are 10m x 9m grass pitches, plus 7m x 7m hardstanding pitches for caravans and motorhomes. All pitches allow up to six guests, each with a 16 amp electric hook up. If you prefer glamping, the hut can accommodate four guests with two singles and a high king-size bed with bedding supplied. There is a lovely mini kitchen set up and Belfast sink, just a short walk to the shower block and with your own private garden area, fire pit and not forgetting the log fuelled hot tub with this option The yurt sleeps six and has its own caravan kitchen, fire pit, log burner inside and beds/bedding. The site also has enough chickens/ducks around to provide folks with fresh eggs, and in the covered area by the bar, there is an honesty shop with a few local things to buy including logs, honey, eggs and a little local art. The old wheel rims can be used for fire pits around the site to help guests enjoy the view with some marshmallows toasting (can be purchased from the bar) The owners have collected goats, sheep, lambs, ponies/horses, and even pet cows who all have their individual stories and characters, and guests can see many of them around the place The Jolly Farmer is a pop up bar that is open weekends April to Sept, full licensed and with a small but tasty menu for breakfasts and evening bites Dogs are welcome on leads and pick up poo please. There is a footpath across fields from the site as well as lots of lovely track and field walks around woods and rural farmland around the local area, generally a peaceful site to take a deep breath from the outside world.

Grass pitches are available from May until December, hardstanding from April to December, the Shepherd's Hut is open from May until October. The yurt is available all year. Pitches from £35/night for 2 people.

This site offers a unisex facility block with toilets and showers, and during peak season there are additional compost toilets. There is also a caravan kitchen with a hob and oven for glampers and a pizza oven for campers and glampers. Fire pits are dotted around the site available to rent and logs are available to purchase.

For some local pubs, there is The Unicorn which can be reached across a couple of fields from the back of the campsite. Or, for a longer walk, The Smithy in Charleton Musgrove is available. For picking up the essentials, Co-op in Wincanton is just a five minute drive from the site.

Pros: lovely view across the valley and to King Alf's tower. Close to Bruton which was what we were looking for. Owner has put in effort to decorate in an artistic style. Cons: Having previously been at 2 other campsites on this holiday, this one had a very different feel with more long term residents staying. We experienced facilities being cleaned multiple times per day at the other sites whereas at this site, it was once so if there was a mess in the loos, one of the two then remained unclean for the rest of the day. We couldn't get hot water in the washing up area either so had to resort to boiling a kettle. We left early as our child wasn't feeling well.

I will try to address the negativity with honesty. We do indeed have residents living in 5 mobile homes and 2 seasonal pitches. At the time of your stay we also had 3 families together for a week as a group and a couple of gentlemen camping together Sadly, it would seem that the propane gas bottle ran out on the washing up sink area, and I apologise for not knowing this. It wasn't reported by yourselves or anyone on site, when I discovered it we replaced the bottle immediately. if you had contacted me you wouldn't have needed to resort to a kettle for your washing up There is me, one person. I do gardening, cleaning, admin, checking in, main trouble shooting, the lot. I am lucky enough to have a couple of friends who help, and my daughter. However, the time that you here the cleaning was left to me. There were a total of 13 adults and 6 children on site to use facilities, the shower block was checked AM and PM and generally the full clean, done by me PM, but certainly done. I am sorry we are not what you like, we are a marmite, and many of my regulars love the fact they feel like they are coming "home" with friendly folk, lovely breakfasts from the pop up cafe, acres of open spaces, wide open views. Animals, footpaths, campfires and marshmallows. It's disheartening to read the score you left.

We came for a short trip over the bank holiday weekend, the site itself was absolutely beautiful! Plenty of horses, sheep and cows, along with a very cute dog! Facilities were perfect, well lit at night and very clean. Our pitch had a great view, and we sat outside on an evening with a fire going in the fire pit provided with the pitch. The site owners were very lovely and accommodating, will definitely be returning to the site!

A note from the site themselves...

Sunnyhill Farm used to be my step Dad's family farm and has been in the family since 1940! My parents are now retired in Devon and I took over the campsite in 2018.

We work hard with a great team of colourful characters to create the Sunnyhill Campsites unique hidden gem, Goats, horses, chickens, ducks, cats and dogs add to the magical atmosphere in front of the most fantastic view.

The world is a crazy place, Sunnyhill likes to offer an alternative to that.

Things to do on site and in the Wincanton area

You will also be within easy reach of many famous attractions. The site is 40 minutes from Stonehenge and Glastonbury town and Tor, whilst being 25 minutes to Longleat Safari Park and House. The Newt, Bruton, Frome, Wincanton, Shaftesbury, and Gillingham are all within easy reach

Fabulous fishing lakes at Higher Farm coarse fishery are 15 minutes from the site, and Todbur Manor and Shearwater are also a short 20 minute drive away to vary your fishing experiences.

Wincanton is opening a cinema 2026 and this is a very welcome addition to our nearest town as well as many more thing coming to this up and coming town

There are plenty of walks in the local woodland and across farmland. It's particularly challenging to head towards Alfred's Tower, which you can see from the site, but it's a longer walk than you think!
