Clear filters Beautiful and Unique Experience
Small Tent - Small Non Electric Grass Pitch (Foxglove) Aug 2025 The site is such a beautiful find. Solely ran by Ruth, a truly inspirational woman who has put her heart and soul into creating an off grid spot, as close to wild camping as possible, whilst preserving the natural beauty and needs of the land. Such a lovely spot, incredible views and very peaceful. It's a site for those conscious of respecting the land and treading softly, it definitely encouraged my daughter and I to think more deeply about the impact human beings can have on nature. A very special stay. Highly recommended for those seeking a close to nature experience.

Our favourite campsite!
Medium Tent - Medium Non Electric Grass Pitch (Primrose) Aug 2025 This campsite was beautiful in every way! The views! The feel of the place! The values! Ruth, the host! The chickens and sheep!
We stayed on Primrose which had the most breath-taking view, it felt like it was there just for us!
Although the campsite was near full, it very much didn't feel like it, there are separate pitches perfectly spaced between each other with mowed paths to access everywhere, which made it feel even more private. Most of the time, it felt like we had the whole site to ourselves!
It was our first time experiencing a composting loo too and honestly, although sceptical at first, I was surprised at how clean and easy to use it was! No complaints from me! Same goes for the shower!
The borrowing library was such a lovely touch with essentials and things to keep everyone entertained, it was nice to be thought of!
Ruth too is a wonderful lady, she truly has gone above and beyond what we expected from her and you can see how much love she pours into this land and everyone who calls it home!
I can't wait to come back with friends and show them the little treasure we've found!

Ace wild camp with views!
Small Tent - Small Non Electric Grass Pitch (Snowdrop) Aug 2025 There is a lot to be said about this quirky, beautiful campsite..
First of all Ruth is an absolute gem. Super helpful and will go above and beyond for you to make sure you are all set for the experience ahead..
After a quick tour around the site, briefing of its history and everything the campsite stands for you can take your belongings to your own personal spot away from other campers. You share the grounds with some sheep & 6 other campers - I found this the perfect amount for the site, and the car park too.
The facilities are excellent, the car park is easy to get in, the toilet is a composting one and was very clean! there’s a little shower area, you get plenty of drinking water and there’s an honesty cupboard next to the recycling area with snacks, treats, books and games.
I found that the views here were some of the best at any campsite I’ve stayed at.. it’s perfect for walkers, photography, or writers, the location is also perfect for the coast as It’s only a short journey to Millom.
To summarise, I can’t wait to book it again.. I don’t need to tell you to book it, just read the reviews..

An excellent stay
Medium Tent - Small Non Electric Grass Pitch (Snowdrop) Jul 2025 Stayed at Hazel Mount for 2 nights.
The site is lovely, we found our stay to be calm, relaxing and peaceful. If you're looking to go off grid, this place is for you. It is more on the wild camping site, facilities are limited, but we really enjoyed this aspect of it.
The site is quite small, so we never felt crowded or overlooked. There are animals living on the site (sheep etc) which gave it an even more rural feel to it. The owner, Ruth, was lovely and so helpful, great at communication prior to trip and available throughout our visit.
Would absolutely stay here again.

Easter weekend 2025
Small Tent - Small Non Electric Grass Pitch (Bluebell) Apr 2025 The site is well placed for the south western side of the Lake District with good access to Wasdale, Coniston. Newby Bridge and Windemere. It gives great access to the Cumbrian coast and estuaries of Morecambe Bay. The site is elevated and gives a great view down the Duddon estuary.
We booked 3 nights for two of us in one tent and compared with other sites, represents good value. We had the secluded 'bluebell' pitch which gave us privacy and protection from the easterly winds.
The owner contacted me in advance to confirm exact location and arrival time, and was on hand to show us what was what and helped move kit to our pitch. The owner is very passionate on providing a tidy, low cost, off grid site as not everyone wants or needs a fully serviced site. The site is off grid but the owner provides water and some basic food stuff, for which there is a small charge. Simple equipment such as wind break and games stuff can be borrowed.
The facilities were clean and tidy, including the composting toilets which smelled better than some normal toilets. The tiled washing up stand has a great view of the Old Man of Coniston.
Don't book this site expecting 'bells and whistles' - do book this site if you have the gear and are looking for peace and tranquillity. Paul.

A great wee find
Medium Tent - Small Non Electric Grass Pitch (Bluebell) Aug 2024 What a lovely little, quirky find this site is. With everything you need and nothing that you don't, we had a sheltered and secluded pitch (bluebell), with views of the coast while being in easy reach of lakeland swims and walks. It's restored my faith in camping as an escape and we hope to be able to return (maybe even in better weather, but that's half the fun).
Ruth is a great host, on hand personally or by phone, the cute wee loos are clean and the supply cupboard is a fabulous idea. She's having a good go at providing something a little bit different and we wish her every success. Well recommended.

Absolutely wonderful
Small Tent - Small Non Electric Grass Pitch (Foxglove) Aug 2024 Such a lovely stay, truly a beautiful site and Ruth was such a wonderful host who made sure we were comfortable. It was peaceful and great for dogs.
As it's off grid completely, not a campsite for those who like their home comforts, but it was absolutely perfect for us and the dog and the views are incredible, even with the mediocre weather we had. Definitely worth a visit!

Beautiful view and lovely owner
Small Tent - Small Non Electric Grass Pitch (Foxglove) Jul 2023 Amazing view in every direction just from the tent, it was easy to find and the owner was very nice and helpful, plus the sheep are very cute :)

Wonderful stay in the Lake District
Small Tent - Small Non Electric Grass Pitch (Bluebell) Jul 2023 I cannot recommend this campsite enough. The spot had a very secluded vibe while still being within driving distance to plenty of hiking spots and towns. Ruth was a fantastic host and made us feel so welcome. This trip was my friend's first time camping in a number of years and she left inspired to do some more camping on her own! Thanks Ruth!

Our stay at Hazel Mount Fellside
Small Tent - Small Non Electric Grass Pitch (Foxglove) Jul 2023 Ruth is a lovely welcoming host that couldn't do enough to help. Bottled drinking water was provided on arrival and you could hire a BBQ and charcoal for our pitch for £5. The campsite was quiet and remote and the views are beautiful. We didn't use the solar shower due to the rain but the shower cubicle was very clean. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning soon. Thank you again.

Perfect spot for us
