Why choose Campfire Weekends

Peaceful adults-only spot in the heart of the High Weald AONB

Surrounded by great Sussex walks, including the Ashdown Forest

Unallocated pitches, with the freedom to choose your own pitch

About the site

Running at weekends only, the site is situated at Great Danegate Farm within the High Weald. Pitch up in this peaceful corner of the countryside on the camping field surrounded by sweeping views and bordered by woodland. Pitches are not allocated, meaning you're free to choose your favourite spot on the field. All pitches are on grass and for tents only, giving you plenty of space and time to roam the countryside via the local footpaths and bridleways. To help keep this a tranquil base, the age limit here is 21 and over. There's a communal campfire for toasting marshmallows. Private campfires are allowed on wood burning grates raised off the ground, if you don't wish to stray too far from your tent (and you can hire the kit you need on site). Well behaved dogs are allowed on the site.

The site is open from 23rd May to 14th September for weekends.

A note from the site themselves...

Campfire Weekends was set up on our family run farm in 2018. Run by all the family but staffed, in the main, by four very welcoming, friendly, and entrepreneurial teenagers, all dead set on making your stay as relaxing as possible.

Based in a seven acre field in the middle of our farm you really are away from it all. It's free pitching on the camping field, but we limit our numbers to around 30 people per night, so you really don't have to worry about space.

Gorgeous and genuinely far-reaching views of the East Sussex countryside are plentiful, and you really are back to nature at our site. We pride ourselves on the peace and quiet of the area and being able to enjoy nature at its best, so we ask that you in coming here are here to do the same. We look forward to hosting you. The Campfire Weekends Team.

Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesAug 2025

This family-run, adult-only camping field aims to offer a quiet and peaceful camping experience and being distant from any main roads, it is certainly very quiet. Except when jet planes pass overhead, and they are quite regular as the campsite is under a Gatwick airport flight path. However, this wasn't annoying and while we would have preferred no overhead planes, we really enjoyed our stay and would happily stay again.

perfect!

Small Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesAug 2025

super basic but exactly what I was looking for : just basic camping, nice and quiet, with nearby woods for walks (and collecting tinder). lots of space between campers so it's still feels really private. the two young ladies running the show were super friendly and helpful, and really diligent in keeping the compost loos clean! (the only, and most welcome, frill on a "no frills" site) lovely view of the moonrise on a fullmoon night :)
