Camped with my wife and our large dog. Site is accessed by some very narrow single lanes and tracks, so probably not really suitable for larger vehicles/campervans, or possibly the faint hearted, if reversing isn't your strong point. The farm is lovely, old stone buildings, very picturesque, and with the farm dog, some sheep, chickens and a Peacock around. Jackie met us and gave us a quick walking tour of the facilities. Washing-up room with dining table and info/sale items, WiFi, with an adjoining private washroom. Our own washroom (each pitch has one) was situated next to the games room and gift shop. Spacious, with a sink, toilet, bath, but no shower as issue with water pressure here, but I believe the other washrooms do have showers. Our bathroom was more than adequate, some will say rustic, others may say dated, but for us it was perfectly fine, and it's so nice having a private washroom. Only issues apart from the odd water pressure issue, was the towel rail was turned off/not working and with no extraction fan, so our towels couldn't dry properly and after a number of days, begins to smell. Yes, we could have taken them to our pitch to dry, but why would you when you have your own bathroom? Anyway that's a mute issue as for us during our week, we had a lot of wind (30mph) and near constant rain, so not an option. The washroom is about a 5 minute walk from the pitch, which is no problem for your washing visits but possible a bit far if you get caught short! Maybe an addition of a small eco-loo on the pitches would be a welcome addition. The pitch (2), no electric on any pitch, is a really good size, in fact they all are really good sizes. It's on a slight slope, with a flatter area at the bottom where the best views are, or will be once the hedge is cut down a bit, so pitch accordingly. The pitches are very spaced apart, I'm talking a field or woodland between them, which for us was perfect!, as we love the tranquillity and privacy, well from other humans at least, the sheep may have a different idea. Note: Vodafone had terrible signal, EE was ok. Each pitch has a bench table and fire pits, but ours was unfortunately too tall for me to use for campfire cooking, which for me is a must. Later, Jackie returned with her husband who lent me their own fire-pit and tripod, as well as delivering a barrow full of logs (£10), wonderful. However with some other burnt areas on the pitch, I do feel that a fixed properly built ground level fire pit would suit all and stop people having fires wherever. There are some lovely walks around the farm, through the woods and down to the pond, the latter being quite a steep, but some areas were a little over grown in places, and the tracks, also used by the tractor, can be a little uneven and muddy after rain, but these areas can be avoided using the woodland trails. There are no local shops/pub within a short walking distance but pubs, butchers and small local supermarkets a short drive away, and a large Tesco in Barnstable, also not far by car. The north coast/towns are around 20-30 minuets drive away. We do not camp often but rather do a week's camping annually, so we take a lot of kit, and being able to park the car very close to the pitch was a godsend. Our last day, Jackie messaged me and said not to rush to get out by 11am if our tent was wet, which it was, thanks for that Jackie. As I said we were very unfortunate to have bad weather for our week, which kept us under canvas a lot, reduced our walking and the camp fire opportunities but despite that we are seriously considering a return trip next year. Please note, we've never been to the same site twice, partly because we are still after campsite perfection, so wishing to return to Huxtable Farm is a huge plus for this site. We highly recommend this site but at the same time hope it doesn't become too popular, or they start cramming in more pitches to cope!

Hello Karl, Thank you for taking the time to write this review, we appreciate your feedback. I do wish you had mentioned, whilst you were here, that you couldn't find the pull switch, behind the curtain for the towel rail, which does work, to dry your towels. We felt for you surviving the wet weather! Great to know that you wish to visit again, if you'd like a pitch closer to your own, private shower room, rather than a room with a bath, do check the availability on the website, for pitches 1 or 3. Warm regards Jackie

This was our first stay at Huxtable Farm and we really hope to be back. A beautiful place, with peace and quiet only broken by bird song. Great pitch, with total privacy and lovely to have our own bathroom, fairly close to the tent. Good facilities on site, including logs and fire pits, which helped ward off the cool evening.

A truly lovely place to stay! We had our own very large and secluded pitch with a private shower room/toilet. The facilities were a little wander down the farm lane but that was fine, in fact, we enjoyed riding our bikes back and forth! Jackie and Anthony were very helpful and made us feel very at home. There were chickens, a peacock, sheep and lovely Bella the dog living on the farm. The washing up room was great with everything we needed, we had fridge/freezer space and a large table to sit at if required. Our children loved doing the puzzles which were provided. There was also a games room for them. We drank lots of farm apple juice and ate homemade jam. The grounds of the farm are charming and we were quite taken by the idea of having so much space to enjoy. We did a 2 mile trail (provided by our hosts) and enjoyed seeing where we were staying. Just a wonderful place and we will return!

A lovely peaceful couple of days, only three camping pitches and each with their own private bathroom at the farm which was a bonus. A really spacious and private pitch from which we could watch an owl fly back and forth feeding the owlets in the tree next to our field. Pedro the peacock made regular visits to check we were OK. Chickens roosting high up in the nearby trees was a first for us. Nice friendly owners showed us around the facilities and happily advised on local walks.

Fantastic pitch, ideally located to see Exmoor and the Devon coast but feel worlds away on your secluded pitch. Only 3 pitches make this an exclusive site. The en-suite facilities are a 3 minute walk and there's a magical walk around the farm. We had our campervan and dog.

We loved our stay at Huxtable Farm. Just 3 pitches spread out around the farm gives each plenty of privacy. Location was great for us, with plenty to do nearby. Each pitch has its own bathroom, which is clean and spacious, although a little walk from the pitches (being at the main farm buildings). There is a washing up room with fridge and freezer, toaster, kettle and microwave, which is very useful. There's a little games room and some home-made produce, which is delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and will return 😊

My boyfriend and I recently stayed here for 4 nights and we honestly cannot recommend this site enough! From the moment we arrived Jackie and Antony were so polite and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble and they really made us feel so welcome! The farm is absolutely stunning, and we definitely recommend using the map to go exploring! It's so worth it! We weren't lucky enough to see any deer but we still saw so many animals, and the views are wonderful - even in the rain! The pitch itself was perfect. We had a stunning view of the hills and it was the perfect size for our setup. Be aware there is barely any signal once you get onto the pitch, but there is free WiFi in the communal areas which is really useful! The facilities were amazing and clean, there's even a fridge/ freezer in the communal washroom which was incredibly useful! We couldn't get over the amount of facilities here, the best I've seen at any campsite! The games room has no shortage of activities, and there's plenty of information available for places to eat and attractions to see in the local area. The little touches throughout the farm really go the extra mile, we bought apple juice and jam and really recommend giving them a try - they're delicious! Our only comment is that our bathroom came with the bath and a shower attachment. This was no issue for myself, but as my boyfriend is 6 ft 3 he struggled to use the shower attachment as it lost water pressure. That being said this is a 16th century farmhouse; so this is to be expected, and the water was always lovely and warm! Also having a private bathroom on a campsite really is an amazing luxury. Overall we had an absolutely amazing time staying at Huxtable Farm, it's definitely my favourite campsite I've been to. It's the perfect location for a romantic couples getaway, a family holiday, or even a solo trip! I really could go on about how lovely this campsite is, I cannot recommend it enough!

I was searching for a peaceful and quiet campsite and have finally found one! Huxtable Farm only has three pitches, all on different parts of the farm, and you would never know anyone else was there. My pitch overlooked the next valley. I had my own shower room and use of a kitchen with a fridge/freezer. Jackie and her husband were really friendly and welcoming as well. I couldn't fault the site. I will definitely be looking to return at some point.
