About the site

Set in a valley between The Long Mynd and Stiperstones Hills, the site offers a peaceful base on 15 acres of rural countryside, perfect for walkers and outdoor explorers. Enjoy views of the surrounding Shropshire Hills, spot wildlife or take a dip in the shallow River East Onny, which runs right beside the site. There are various places to camp, from small dingles to a large five-acre meadow and rally field. Choose from non electric grass pitches for tents, roof tents, trailer tents, campervans, caravans and motorhomes, or pitch up on one of the electric grass pitches, accommodating the same. In a separate field, you will find a handful of electric gravel touring pitches, along with super gravel touring pitches, several of which are adjacent to the river. These are suited to roof tents, trailer tents, campervans, caravans and motorhomes. Please note that electric hook ups are 16 amps and all pitch sizes are either 8m x 9m or 9m x 8m. Directly accessible from the site is the popular, family-friendly Inn (booking advisable), serving a tasty selection of homemade pub grub, including Sunday lunch, as well as refreshing beverages. Just up the hill, you will also find The Crown, offering a tasty menu. Spend your days tackling one of the area's hikes, scrambling up Devil's Chair or visiting the medieval market town of Shrewsbury and the festival town of Ludlow, both a half hour drive away. A little further afield lies the iconic Ironbridge, should you want to explore further. The site welcomes up to three pups per pitch, with a dedicated dog walk for them to stretch their paws in. Please note that dogs must be kept on their lead at all times. Raised BBQs are permitted onsite, but sorry, campfires are not allowed.

There's a facility block onsite with toilets, hot showers (20p), baby changing, a hairdryer and a shaving point. You will also have access to an indoor washing up room, laundry with a washing machine and tumble dryer, and a communal fridge and freezer (for ice packs only).

A small gift shop is available onsite, selling local ice cream. Dogs can explore the dedicated dog field, and there's free WiFi connection at reception. Picnic tables are around the site too.

There is a small play area and play field for children, and they'll also love the shallow river that runs through the site for paddling, catching crayfish, and building dams!

The Inn on the Green pub is just next door from the site (pre-booking is highly recommended), and The Crown is a 15 minute walk away (along a country road), both serving home-made food and real ales. There is also a well stocked village shop, Wentnor Stores, a five minute walk away.

A note from the site themselves...

My husband Will and I live a mile from the site with our two daughters Hebe and Anya.

We bought the site in the summer of 2025 and have been busy since, doing lots of work to update the facilities and infrastructure! We are also proud that it's been awarded a four-star AA rating.

Our site is run by managers Rachel and John, who are super friendly and give every guest the best possible experience! We want to create somewhere families can escape to, switch off and enjoy quality time together. The site is on the Onny, perfectly situated between the Long Mynd and the Stiperstones.

As a local family, we can't wait to share our secret spot in Shropshire!

Things to do on site and in the Bishop's Castle area

With quiet country lanes and scenic hills, the setting lends itself to superb walks, cycle trails, and other outdoor activities. Just a 20 minute drive away is Stiperstones National Nature Reserve, where you can try scrambling up Devil's Chair and Manstone Rock, or tackle one of its circular walks.

Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd (30 minutes), in the heart of the Shropshire Hills National Landscape, is another great option for sweeping views, outdoor hikes, mountain biking, and wildlife spotting.

Trek through a heather-covered landscape, or follow a riverside walk, with many ranging in difficulty. Don't forget to bring your swimming gear as there are plenty of opportunities for wild swimming!

History buffs must head to Stokesay Castle, Clun Castle, Powis Castle and Garden, all within a 30 minute drive, to uncover ancient agricultural history on guided tours.

The charming market town of Bishop's Castle is less than ten minutes away, and holds an annual walking festival in May. A little further afield, you can find Shrewsbury (30 minutes), home to iconic attractions, including Shrewsbury Prison and the historic Shrewsbury Castle and Abbey. Wander through the high street lined with independent shops and incredible Tudor architecture.
