A very well thought out campsite. Lovely views, good facilities. Two pubs nearby, a good bus service, pizza and breakfast vans on site, which were excellent. We didn’t try any of the walks from the campsite as we went to Matlock on the bus. It was a very enjoyable visit. We look forward to returning.

Lovely campsite with lots of space for kids to play. Could be better lit as very dark at night to try to find communal facilities.

So far this has been the best campsite we have had the pleasure of staying at. The staff are all amazing and helpful, everything you could possibly need is there, food truck, toilets, showers, shop, laundry and game room etc! It’s really spacious and perfect location with many trail routs nearby. Absolutely loved our stay and will be booking again.

Large Tent - Family Playground Field Non Electric Pitches (Field 4)Jul 2026

This is the second time we've stayed here and, honestly, this campsite never fails to disappoint! The peacocks are lovely and keep the kids entertained, the alpacas are great, the park is fun for the small ones and the walks around are beautiful. The "family" facilities are amazing. The normal ones are well kept and maintained but best avoided when DofE kids are in residence (too many hormones, although kept well in check by the site staff). Would definitely recommend and stay again!

Amazing again

Really superb location, easy access to lots of walking. Quiet site , spacious, friendly staff, well stocked shop. Good views. Good sized hook up pitches. Men’s showers a little slow to get going but hot once there! Will definitely visit again.

We had a lovely stay at Barn Farm. The location was great, the staff on site were friendly and helpful. The facilities were amazing, the showers were some of the best I’ve had on a campsite! Plenty of space in the freezers and a shop on site for any essentials. Food trucks visited at the weekend which was a nice treat.

Fabulous family campsite

Large Tent - Family Playground Field Non Electric Pitches (Field 4)Jul 2026

We had such a fabulous first camping trip at Barn Farm. The field was easy to pitch on, it was lovely to be able to choose our own spot. Check in was welcoming, facilities are great and the play park was a huge hit. We felt safe, it was easy to find our way about and as first time campers, it was all just so easy. The fridge and freezer were a great help, wash up facilities were super and there was a shop onsite selling just about everything! The showers were hot and water pressure was good - just a bit grubby by the end of the day and no mop available to clean the floor.

Fantastic!

Amazing campsite! Facilities were top drawer with plenty available. Pizza and breakfast options were both amazing, as was the on site shop. We didn't go to local pubs but went into Bakewell which was only 15 mins away. Camping fields were all in great condition. Quiet policies were all adhered too late evening as well

Excellent campsite. Beautiful views & fab, well thought through facilities. The night time security gave peace of mind. I was impressed the bins around the site were emptied so often, making keeping it tidy much easier. Pop up pizza, breakfast & ice cream van were brill. Super friendly staff too.

VW-Type Campervan - Electric Grass Touring PitchesJul 2026

Excellent site location wise, easy access to matlock, bakewell and the dales. Facilities clean enough. Little shop and info. Reception lady was very nice and explained everything. We were shown a pitch in the bottom, quiet field but I asked to move up to tourer field as it was so far from loo (I get up in the night!). All good, she said pick anywhere, except we just couldn't find a pitch anywhere that was flat enough - even with our blocks. Subsequently we got no sleep as I was rolling downhill into poor hubby. Sadly, we had to leave next day and find another campsite. If you have 2ft high blocks, it's wonderful. Ours sadly weren't high enough.

A great site

Single Axle Caravan - Electric Grass Touring PitchesJul 2026

Nice surroundings made for a peaceful trip. The campsite is spacious, so even when other campers are nearby it doesn't feel cramped, at least in the caravan/camper bit where I was. Its got everything you need, plenty of water and washing points. A little shop, games room, laundry room etc. The toilets and showers are clean and there's plenty of them so no issues there. There was a visible but non intrusive security patrol in the evening, which was good. Owner was also helpful when needed. Can't fault it!

Very clean

Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Tent Pitches (Field 1)Jul 2026

Very well run. Everything is very clean and there were no queues at all for toilets and showers. There was personnel around in the evening to ensure everything was orderly. Great views from top of field 1 though the ground has a slope so you need to be careful where you pitch.

Good site, great location

Large Tent - Non Electric Grass Tent Pitches (Field 1)Jul 2026

This is our 2nd stay at Barn Farm and it's a brilliant location for some good walks. A couple of pubs very nearby and the site itself offers a good standard of facilities. Shower and loos were cleaned regularly and the site staff are lovely. Our only negative was that we were located on Field 1 which, unless you're on site early, is quite a steep bank. Had we known the main field was being used for a D of E event we might have stayed elsewhere. The D of E group were perfectly well behaved but staying on the hill was not fun. Cooking, sleeping and even the kids playing was all difficult and I think the site should pre-warn guests so you at least have the choice. We will stay again but not if we're booked into this field,

Great place

Small Tent - Family Playground Field Non Electric Pitches (Field 4)Jun 2026

We return to Barn Farm most summers in early June to do some walking in the surrounding hills. It's a fantastic location for this, with several walks possible from the site itself. Being based at the edge of Birchover, it's only a short walk to the 2 pubs, though you can't get meals every night. The gorgeous village of Winster is a couple of miles away and also has 2 pubs. The site itself is very well managed and clean, with grass regularly mowed. The only downside, which applies to many other sites too, is the influx of Duke of Edinburgh students at certain times, when there can be queues for toilets. However, the large shower rooms available for adults only mean there's no queueing for those. I do feel that an extra toilet/shower block on the DofE field would be a good investment. Overall, we love it here and are already looking forward to our next visit!
