Bircham Windmill is situated in the peaceful Norfolk countryside, within 15 minutes of the coast and Sandringham Estate. Set on the grounds of a unique historic mill, guests can pick between grass tent and touring pitches, along with charming shepherd's huts for those who prefer glamping. Start the day with a full English at the onsite tea rooms, try baking your own bread, or climb the mill and admire the views. Dogs are welcome too!

Very excited about this campsite, the spot looks idyllic. Campsite itself has good large pitches and is nice and flat. However, only 2 showers and toilets so lots of queuing in the mornings. The facilities at the windmill are aimed at under 8s, so loads to do if you have younger children, but older children have an option of a pool table, or you have to pay for or a telly. Disappointing, after the clear thought that's gone into entertaining little ones.
Site's response
Hi there, thank you for your feedback. Campsites.co.uk have flagged your review to me. I'm glad you found the pitches spacious and flat. I'm sorry you didn't find all the showers. The two you found are together in a block and each contains a shower, toilet, sink and heated mirror. One is larger with walk in shower, bench and baby change - the idea being a family could use it together to speed up any queue. The third shower is a purpose build shepherds hut with shower, basin, bin and seat, it's the other side of the games room and there are maps in the main shower to help orientate guests. There are 6 toilets onsite including the two in the shower block. So 4 others on site, all individual with one external door, all with basin, mirror, toilet and bin, so great for anyone just wanting a wash or to clean their teeth. All facilities are free and open 24/7. We have devised the activities on personal experience, our children now 20 and 16, they always enjoyed catch or playing cards. We have added in trim trials, swing and sandpit for the little ones as you say, and have a pool table and TV for the older ones, with a table and chairs and free electric for charging phones plus plenty of space in the evenings for campers to set up their own badminton, football, catch or even fly kites. There is a large playground in the village too with adult gym equipment and huge kite-flying space - which isn't promoted onsite, but we could have pointed you to it. Cycling is very good from here and lots of pubs, attractions, arcades, Hunstanton fair, bowling, beaches, woods and more all within 10 minutes drive. I hear your point about having to pay for the pool table and I'm sorry you felt this unreasonable, this is something that we do discuss, but having to pay does mean that the players respect the table, the balls remain safe when not in use and serious players can take a turn. We will give some further thought to this over the winter and I do hope we can accommodate you again in the future. Thanks, Elly.

Really happy with our stay, very cute campsite with a windmill and café, bakery was great and the breakfast at the tearoom was fantastic! We were very impressed by the facilities - 3 full bathrooms, not just shower cubicles, they even had bath mats for us to use that they then wash. Play area for kids too. It was great that we didn't have to check in and out which made it more laid back, and the sizes of the pitches and the spacing was great too. Would definitely visit again and will be visiting the windmill and café soon with family when we are back in the area. Thanks to everyone at Bircham Windmill!

Lovely quiet site with a café-shop, fresh bread made on site every weekday and a windmill to explore. The beaches are about a 20 minute drive away, Wells-next-the-Sea and Hunstanton are highly recommended.

A great, small family site in a picturesque location. The toilets and showers were very good. There was a donkey and a horse in the field, and a small green space for kids to play around.

Really beautiful little campsite. Stunning location, peaceful and has everything you could want for a quiet, family orientated stay. Our toddler loved the little garden and we thought the on-site bakery was fab. We wish we'd found you sooner xxx

A pleasant campsite in a good location, nice and quiet part of Norfolk, but a short drive to the coast and other sites of interest like Castle Acre. The pitches are large and there's not too many pitches which is good. Would benefit from a few more hedgerows to windbreak and increase privacy perhaps but I imagine the camping fields are grazed in winter which would make hedge planting more of a challenge. The mill, bakery and cafe are nice too. Shame you have to pay £1 per game of pool on the pool table. Would be good if there was a football table in the games' room too and a darts board, but they're only minor setbacks. Showers/toilets are all private, which is a rare treat for a campsite too. All in all, would recommend staying here.

Loved our stay. We had tween and teenage kids and the site may suit those with younger children better. We were shushed by campers by 9pm before it was dark.

Was fairly quiet on the site for a BH with nice spacious pitches & plenty of room for children to play. Quiet at night too - very considerate fellow campers! Self check in but clear instructions sent regarding pitch. 3 showers and loos so enough, especially as more folk in motor homes. Little extras, like plenty of clean shower mats & tea towels. Good sized indoor games room too and at least 2 washing up areas. Great tea room and milk, which was busy with tourists but not that you'd notice on site. Nearest pub a 15/20 min walk away. We are walkers but not many footpaths locally so had to walk a lot on quiet roads. Tea room & bakery were fab! A great breakfast and the doughnuts and Bircham buns were definitely scrummy! Enjoyable stay. Was good to learn about the history of the mill as well.

I was with a friend. The campsite is amazing, so peaceful and quiet. Staff members are very helpful. You can have lots of fun around - they have their own bakery, where you can bake bread from scratch and it take home. They have animals like donkeys, horse and a sheep. They have 2 shepherd's huts. Close distance to the seaside - around 7 miles. They have an a 100 year old windmill. Tea and coffee and their own homemade food. Truly recommend this campsite.

We just got back from a weekend at Bircham Mill and my wife and I loved it. Food in the cafe was lovely, we made our own bread and butter in the mill. What I was most impressed with is how they have got such a great balance to have the commercial tourist attraction of the mill, but keep the feel of the campsite so homely and personal. The wash up room full of tea towels free to use, the washrooms with loads of shower mats to use. Up-cycled washing machine drums to use as firepit/bbq. We really got the feel that they love their site and would do anything to please the guests. Will definitely be going back.

Good, quiet site with excellent café, friendly staff and clean facilities. It seemed families were in one area and couples in another, so the only noise we had at night were owls hooting and deer barking! Plus we got to see hares racing about in the adjoining field. Great location for exploring this part of Norfolk, and some great pubs are within a 15 minute drive.

Lovely quiet campsite surrounded by fields. Saw muntjac, hares, pheasants and red kite. More suited to families with young children. Great bakery on site. Could do with more shower facilities.

Great place to stay for a night or two. Toilets were clean and the shop/bakery looked good. I think £32 + £8 a night for electric is a bit steep however. Very peaceful place - cool animals too!

Beautiful location with the windmill, animal paddocks and tearooms right next to the pitches. Really good, clean facilities with use of showers, toilets, kitchen (with fridge and washing machine), games room and play areas for the kids. It is a small site, which suited us perfectly. The evenings were spent star gazing as it benefits from dark skies all around. Really close to the local beaches too.

Small campsite in a peaceful country location with a working windmill. Horse, donkey, sheep and chickens in the field next to the site. Easy drive to North Norfolk beaches. Ample country pubs with great quality food. (Book well in advance to secure a booking for evening meals if going out). Clean washing facilities and washing up facilities. Good entertainment room for kids. We go every year. One of our preferred sites.

What a lovely place to stay. I loved the activities within the windmill and the gorgeous homemade produce. Fresh produce on sale including locally made flour and eggs laid by the chickens. Breakfasts are lovely and the freshly baked cakes are absolutely gorgeous. Good sized pitches with hook ups. Facilities are very good including shower mats and tea towels for use with the availability of a washing machine. The staff are all lovely and very polite, genuinely had a lovely feel. The tea room gardens are lovely with lots to do and there are some sheep, a horse and a donkey which had my granddaughter fascinated. Would definitely stay here again.
