Just five minutes from the beach, spend days swimming, cycling, walking or surfing. Dogs can join your coastal stay, too!
About the site
Orkney's 72 islands lie to the north of mainland Scotland and are well known for delivering four seasons of weather in a day! This is a place where you can reconnect with nature, enjoy the peace, and admire the stunning landscapes under huge and beautiful skies. The campsite is situated on an organic vegetable farm. The Wheems campsite is on South Ronaldsay, just a few miles across the Pentland Firth. It is in an elevated field with superb views towards the sea. The sculpted terraces provide grass pitches for tents, motorhomes and campervans, some of which offer electric. The wooden bothy camping pods were designed and built on the farm. Insulated and double glazed, they look out to sea through double doors and from their outside decking areas. The bothies include comfortable bedding, electric sockets, heating and a rechargeable lamp. For those looking for a sense of adventure, there is the 14ft Kyrgyzstani yurt. The yurt is cosy and dry, with beautiful furnishings, candles and lamps (though no electricity), a custom wooden floor and a log burner to keep you toasty. There are two shepherd's huts to choose from, Bonny Shiel and Corbie Hut, each with stunning sea views and shared facilities nearby. Bonny Shiel is equipped with a raised double bed with bed linen and blankets provided, a small kitchen area with a wood-burning stove and stainless steel cooktop. Cooking equipment, utensils, and crockery are provided, along with a trug of logs, kindling, firelighters, and matches for your own outdoor fire pit with a BBQ grill. Corbie Hut has a built in king sized bed and a roll out mattress for little ones. There is a wood burning stove, stainless steel cooktop, cooking equipment and utensils, and your own outdoor fire pit with a BBQ grill. The Pentland Loft is also available, sleeping five with two double beds, a futon, a fully equipped kitchen, and a bathroom. In the summertime, opt for one of the furnished bell tents! Dogs are welcome, but they must be kept on a lead at all times due to the site's animals. BBQs and fire pits are allowed and available to hire, provided they are raised off the ground.
Open from 1 January to 31 October.
