A note from the site themselves...
Thorpe Farm was purchased by Percy Barkes back in 1936, the Great Grandfather of the youngest generation of Barkes' today. Deryk Barkes, Percy's son, farmed here thereafter. It was a mixed farm consisting of suckler cows and sheep with an arable operation too. He later expanded into dairy cows, one of only a few farmers in the area to have, at the time, a state-of-the-art milking parlour.
In 1982 Paul Barkes, Deryk's son, returned back from agricultural college. He slowly moved away from cows and into pig production, expanding the arable area and keeping the sheep flock. He later added a commercial grain drying operation and a small contracting business.
2012 was the year the site expanded into holidaying and have been loving it ever since. We then opened the farm and gift shop in 2019 and continue to look to develop to make the site even better for all of our guests!

Large Tent - Grass Pitches (Optional Electric)May 2025
It was our first night ever camping with 2 kids. They loved it, especially the farm animals.
Staff were really helpful too. We had a slow puncture on the way there, we just managed to make it through the gates before it went completely flat and we didn't have a spare tyre. 1 of the staff came and helped us fix it he even went and got 1 of his mates to come and repair the hole in the tyre. They went above and beyond for us we can't thank them enough. He even came and showed us where our pitch was and showed us how everything worked.
The only thing is it's close to the A66, so there is a little bit of noise coming from the cars. Other than that, it was a really good experience for our first time camping. We will definitely be going back.
This is a great park that is central to many attractions. The value for money is Ok. However, the metered electric can be high if the weather turns cold.
The mini-shop, restaurant and gift shop are good value for money and the staff were really friendly and helpful. Although the shower facilities are spotless, we found that you have to run off a fair amount of cold water before the hot water kicks in. We found it odd that there were no recycling facilities?
