Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesApr 2025

Swallow Barn Farm was perfect for what we wanted, lots of people passing through for one night. The location was perfect seems to be central for all local attractions and an Inn within a stones through. Not much to choose from to pitch level but for £16 anight happy as Larry a shower block would make this site perfect and the owner though busy with the farm was happy to help anyway he could.

Small Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesApr 2025

Found this when I was looking for somewhere last minute close to Chapterhouse where I was for a course. A little bit off the beaten path and down a difficult single track road (be careful if in anything bigger than a car) but it was exactly what it said on the listing. A huge, open field at the back of the farm. Not as flat as it looks in the pictures, but there are certainly great areas if you arrive early or they aren't busy. I stayed in April and was one of four parties, one large camper, 3 VWT series and another tent. You do park on the field at your own risk, but there are a few parking spaces off the field by one of the barns. The views are stunning, huge vistas and the light pollution is pretty low so great for star watching. The one portable loo was clean with plenty of paper but again if they were busy that might be a different story. It's also a bit wobbly, so be prepared for that if you need a 2am loo! I would recommend it if you're looking for something cheap and cheerful for 1 or 2 night while you climbed or biked and I will use again if I'm in that area. The Sun Inn, which is 5 mins away, does great food and they seated 2 without a reservation. If you want quiet and great views, and somewhere pretty self contained, it's a great little find. If you are a family or have kids, you may want to look elsewhere as there is nothing on site for them so bring your own entertainment.

VW-Type Campervan - Non Electric Grass PitchesOct 2024

Chosen this site as close to Cheddar Gorge at a reasonable price. There are sites closer to Cheddar but were charging extortionate prices. This was a nice field, lovely views and plenty of space. Owners leave you to it to enjoy your time there. Close to a pub and a petrol station/shop.

Site's response

Thank you so much for a wonderful review. So pleased you enjoyed your stay.

This large field is all you need for pitching your tent. Fairly level field, a sink with cold water tap and a portaloo on site. Lovely view over the Bristol channel.

If you are after a basic, open plan site with great views, and are happy with just 2 portaloos and a sink, then this is highly recommended. Great pub a short walk away too. Dog friendly with good walks straight from the site. We will be back next year.

Thank you for a good review, hope you enjoyed your stay and the local pub!

Perfect location if you'd like to visit cheddar George and have nice walks with your dog. The field is big enough to keep our tent separate from the rest.

Motorhome - Non Electric Grass PitchesMay 2024

Stopped here for one night on our return travels. Fantastic little spot with great views all around of the Mendips. Peace and quiet and cheap with basic facilities no problem as we had a motorhome and didn't require anything else. Lovely guy that greeted us on arrival and even cut the grass before we picked a spot to park. Couldn't ask for more for that money. Great country pub just a couple of minutes walk away. Best nights sleep we have had in ages.

A field with a view, close to a pub, near great walking countryside but handy for the A38 and access to Bristol and South. Super, simple off grid camping...a delight.

Motorhome - Non Electric Grass PitchesSep 2023

Lovely site, amazing views, cracking pub a 2 minute walk away. It is a basic site. It has toilets and fresh water, and it is also on a slight slope. This is more than made up be the incredible views, the peace and quiet. Loads of interesting walks across the road and a very nice pub a 2 minute walk across the campsite. Would definitely stay there again.

Small Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesSep 2023

Was just a field, most of which was on a slope. Email said to check in on arrival, yet there wasn't anyone around to speak to. We were asked by couple of people about seeing the owners, but just advised them to call like we did. I think that as it is just a field and portaloo, the site should be a little less, as many other sites nearby are £1-£5 more and offer a lot of facilities. I think this place is new to offering camping and it did the job. We enjoy wild camping and this was basically the same. Wouldn't come back but did enjoy ourselves, so thank you.

Site's response

Thank you for your feedback, it really helps. Apologies that nobody was around, we have signs with our numbers on but I understand it's always nicer to talk to someone in person, thank you for staying with us.

Trailer Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesAug 2023

A hidden gem. This was just what I was looking for - the views over the Bristol Channel and surrounding Mendip hills were stunning. Facilities are all you need for a night or two away. A large field with plenty of space for people to not camp on top of one another. Friendly farmer asking for feedback on my way out. Fellow campers were all cool. There's a great pub a short walk away, with a good selection of fish and plant based meals. My dinner was lush, and prices were reasonable for the quality. Lots of footpaths to wander from the campsite, with ravens and buzzards soaring overhead. Sadly I slept in so missed sunrise which I bet was lovely. You can hear traffic from down in the valley so if you're a light sleeper earplugs might be a good idea. As a solo camper I felt very safe. I'd definitely go back if visiting Somerset again.

Site's response

Thank you so much for your lovely review, so pleased you had a good stay with us and loved the site, and of course the local pub! We’d love to have you back any time.
