VW-Type Campervan - Electric Grass Pitches (Pet Free) Aug 2022 We just loved this campsite - friendly staff, beautiful setting close to all the attractions/beaches we had planned to visit. No fuss, everything was just so easy here. We had a lovely stay and will be back again in the future, that's for certain.
Thank you Heathfield Farm.
Superb stay Recommends site
Small Tent - Electric Grass Pitches (Pet Friendly) Aug 2022 Could not rate this site any higher, owners/wardens were very pleasant and will help with anything needed. Easily sorted me a later check-out. Will definitely be booking again!
Wonderful time was had by all Recommends site
Medium Tent - Electric Grass Pitches (Pet Friendly) Aug 2022 We all had a super time at Heathfield - it is conveniently located for the Yarmouth ferry - although we came into East Cowes via the Red Funnel line (highly recommended too). The plan was to soak up some sun, do some walking with the dog and get in some paddle boarding (first time). We came during a heatwave, so plenty of sun. Our dog, although he is small loves to walk and there are plenty of English Heritage properties to visit that welcome dogs, plus the camp's own dog walking meadow was great facility to use first thing in the morning and last thing at night.
Both Colwell Bay and Freshwater Bay are great for water activities, we tried out paddle boarding in Colwell Bay - you can walk there from the campsite (with your board on you back) - beach is a bit stony so bring some flipflops.
The town of freshwater (short walk from the campsite) has both a Co-op and a Sainsbury's and a range of coffee shops, pubs, restaurants and take-aways to satisfy any palate. Everyone is so friendly not just on the campsite but all the locals they really make you feel welcome.
All-in-all, an excellent experience and we and our dog, Barney, will definitely be coming back to Heathfield and the Isle of Wight real soon.
Great quiet break Recommends site
Medium Tent - Electric Grass Pitches (Pet Free) Aug 2022 Stayed at the site for 4 days. Annie and Brian warmly welcomed me and showed me to my pitch. Brian supplied me with a piece of wood for my motorbike stand.
Facilities were good and clean. There will always be a wait for the showers at peak times, no big deal. The pitches were well looked after. There is a Co-op locally, along with a couple of takeaway places all within a 25 min walk, round trip. The local boy racers on their motorbikes and cars make a bit of noise in the evenings but it's no fault of the campsite. Colwell bay is walking distance away with great food and drink. If you are staying there with a motorbike, the roads are fantastic to ride, in particular from Chale to Shanklin or Ryde.
Would go back but the ferry prices are a little expensive for a 45 min crossing.
Look forward to returning hopefully next year Recommends site
Medium Tent - Electric Grass Pitches (Pet Friendly) Jul 2022 Absolutely loved our stay! Very friendly staff and campsite had a little park area in the centre, which was fantastic for our kids. Kept them entertained whilst we got all the boring stuff sorted.
Really good site (if you don’t mind a few things) Recommends site
Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches May 2022 Excellent location - Freshwater is the main place to shop for supplies in the west of the island - you are on the edge of town though so going in on foot is quite a trek. I didn't mind that! Friendly hosts, very well-kept grounds, good facilities. There were some drawbacks though.
The site is very family-orientated. Over a busy busy bank holiday, there was just one other tent/ van in my field that didn't have kids. This could be a plus of course, if you've got them too! Incidentally there is a small enclosure for backpacking tents near the buildings - people just doing one night - the IOW Coastal Path runs nearby.
The showers were closed at night and opened up again around 7 - 7.30am, so you had to get your opening times memorised. Another drawback was that there was no reliable internet. Might not be a problem if you want a break from it, but I was travelling solo and could have done with it.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed my stay and would still recommend this site. I used the local buses a lot. They stop close to the site as well as down by the shops and they were surprisingly easy to use. They took me to a lot of nice places, all over the west side of the island. I would also recommend finding the Red Lion pub and Golden Hill fort. Hidden gems, they're not far from the site as the crow flies but v tucked away!
