About the site

Surrounded by woodland and beautiful Dorset countryside, this site offers a convenient base near the A352 for exploring the coast and the South West. Discover the historic chalk hill giant at Cerne Abbas just ten minutes away, or take a 20 minute drive into the market town of Dorchester to enjoy its museums, Roman heritage, shopping, and dining. There are electric grass pitches for tents and trailer tents. Those with caravans, campervans and motorhomes can choose between a standard or waterside electric hardstanding pitch with views of the fishing lakes. There are four lakes in total onsite, with different lakes stocked with Roach, Rudd, Bream, Perch, Tench and Carp. Two of these are for over 14s and two are family friendly, great for keen anglers to have a relaxing day by the water. Enjoy a traditional seaside day out in Weymouth, just 30 minutes away, where you can stroll along the sandy beach and harbour. You are also just 30 minutes from the iconic Jurassic Coast, home to the scenic cliffside trails of Lulworth Cove and the world-famous stone arch at Durdle Door. Four legged friends are welcome onsite, with nature trails and woodland walks for them to stretch their legs. Charcoal BBQs are allowed, but will not be permitted during dry, windy or hot weather conditions. Please note that fire pits are not allowed.

Onsite facilities include toilets and coin operated showers, as well as an accessible toilet and shower. There is also a washing up area and a laundry area with coin operated washing machines and dryers, and a freezer to keep ice packs cool. For your four legged pals, there is a woodland walk and access to nature trails onsite.

The site is home to four well stocked fishing lakes with Roach, Rudd, Bream, Perch, Tench and Carp. Two of the lakes allow fishing for all ages, whereas Kingfisher and Blue Lakes are both for over 14s only. Please note that there is an additional fee to fish in the lakes and a current Environment Agency Fishing Licence is required.

For picking up the essentials, there is a shop in reception for everyday items, snacks, drinks and camping basics, open daily from 8am to 6pm. For larger shops, Cerne Abbas Stores is a ten minute drive away, and further supermarkets can be found in Sherborne within a 15 minute drive.

For dining out, The Hunters Moon is under a five minute drive away. There are several further pubs within a ten minute drive, including The Gaggle of Geese, The Halsey Arms, The Giant Inn and The Royal Oak.

Site rules and policies

*Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.

*The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. XL Bully, Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

*A charge applies for the use of the shower.

*Reception is open from 8am to 6pm between 01/02 and 22/12.

*Reception is unmanned after 6pm. Please inform the site while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time, so that the team can provide information about your unit/pitch.

*Open fires are prohibited.

*Fires and fire pits are prohibited.

*Charcoal BBQs will not be permitted in dry, windy and/or hot weather conditions.

*Only one car is to be parked by the pitch. Extra vehicles must be parked in the designated area.

*Visitors must register at reception.

*You must have a current up to date Environment Agency Fishing Licence, which must be produced if you are asked for it.

*Under 14s must be accompanied by an adult.

*No keep nets to be used. All fish to be returned to lakes. Fish are not to be removed from the fishery under any circumstances.

*You require a day ticket to fish; these are obtainable from the shop during shop opening hours or from the bailiff on the bank (cash only). Day tickets are 7am to 7pm.

*Unhooking mats and landing nets must be used.

*Rods are not to be left unattended on the lakeside.

*No swimming or wading in the lakes under any circumstances.

Things to do on site and in the Dorchester area

Onsite there is plenty to do for a relaxed day, whether it is a peaceful woodland stroll or a day on the banks of one of the four fishing lakes. Offering catch and release fishing, two of the lakes welcome all ages, while two are reserved for over 14s only. All the lakes are well stocked with Roach, Rudd, Bream, Perch, Tench and Carp, offering day fishing from 7am to dusk, for an additional fee.

For those wanting to venture offsite, there is easy access to the A352 to explore local towns such as Cerne Abbas, home to the historic Cerne Abbas Giant chalk hill figure and several traditional pubs, just a ten minute drive away.

Dorchester is also just a 20 minute drive, with Maiden Castle, the Dorset Museum and Art Gallery, and the birthplace of Thomas Hardy, alongside a great range of shops, pubs and restaurants. The towns of Sherborne and Yeovil are both within a 25 minute drive as well, featuring the famous Sherborne Abbey, two historic castles, and excellent independent shops and dining options.

For a coastal escape, the Jurassic Coast can be reached in 30 minutes, with top attractions including the traditional seaside town of Weymouth, with access to The South West Coast Path, Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door.
