Lovely Little Site

Excellent site good value for money

Lovely stay

We have just had a lovely stay for 3 nights with our 2 children and dog. The facilities were so clean and the owners were always on hand to help if needed. Just down the road from Gwithian beach. Had a lovely taco food cart that came on a Wednesday evening and another food truck on different days. Thank you for a lovely stay and we hope to be back soon.

A great place for family camping

Very welcoming and accommodating owners. Had a great time, location was perfect with links to the major routes within a couple miles. Supermarkets close by. The range of local beaches for lifeguard patrolled safe swimming areas were also great or just relaxing watching the surf. It was always nice to return to camp for a nice hot shower and to see what was on offer at the hot food stall that evening if I didn't want to cook. We definitely plan on returning next year. Wish we had stayed for longer

Incredibly clean facilities, super helpful office team, we had an absolutely gorgeous stay here. We were positioned by the entrance but that wasn't an issue, most people drove in slowly and adhered to the noise curfews. If you don't have a car there's a nice walk to the beach and you can get the bus from outside the campsite now straight into St ives which is excellent! We would absolutely consider coming back.

Overall, an okay stay!

My sister and I brought our niece and nephew here for a 4 night stay. A lovely campsite with clean facilities and a very basic shop in the office. Great location and great prices. I did find that the pitches were very small. Definitely the smallest standard pitch I've stayed on (been camping for 12+ years) and they are very close together. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Jayne and were made to feel welcome. I found Jayne to be super pleasant, friendly and very helpful but unfortunately, I found Mike to be rude on occasions. To name a few I witnessed him shouting at people to close the toilet doors. Whilst I appreciate the doors need to be closed due to wind etc, shouting is not the correct approach. On another instance whilst washing up, my niece and nephew were having a giggle whilst helping dry the plates and bowls, and Mike felt the urge to ask if we were playing or actually washing up. I felt this was very passive aggressive and unnecessary. Again, my niece and nephew were riding their bikes on the campsite and Mike told them they were exceeding the 5mph speed limit. How is a 9 and 12 year old supposed to know if they are exceeding 5mph? Mike felt the urge to tell them this on several occasions which left them confused as to what they were doing wrong. I think Mike's priority should be stopping the cars which are blatantly exceeding the speed limit on the campsite, not my niece and nephew who are harmlessly riding around. The campsite was very noisy on some nights with neighbours screaming and laughing until 1am. Another night, a car pulled up next to our tent at gone midnight and then the icing on the cake was last night the family to the left of our pitch were playing the ukulele and singing at gone 11pm. Overall, our stay was ok. I might return in the future but I am reluctant due to the way my niece and nephew were treated and no, they are not trouble makers. They are good as gold and are respectful young people. P.s I know the cockerel is completely out of your control but wow-ee! That's the definition of a wake up call.

Many thanks for taking the time to write such an in-depth review. We are so glad that you found the facilities clean and that the location and cost of things on site suited you. With regard to the cockerel, we are in total agreement with you and thank you for pointing out that this is outside of our control 🐓 With reference to the size of your pitch, all of our pitches are not less than 10 metres to allow for an 8 metre tent with guy ropes and a 2 metre corridor for space between tents and your neighbour. We do leave the middle of the field empty so that children can play ball games. We apologise if you felt that Mike was rude, unfortunately he had to tell your niece and nephew off more than once for riding bikes at an unacceptable speed, with no safety equipment and for playing around the toilets and wash up facilities, as did Lyndsey our cleaner. With the greatest of respect you were not supervising them at all times and may not of seen what they were doing. We do ask for children to be supervised at all times and not to ride bikes or play around our facilities. This is made clear in the T's and C's, which you would have received at the time of booking and confirmation. Although it isn't our responsibility to explain basic road safety, or supervise any children on site, Mike did explain to them how to gauge their speed, but this obviously didn't help. Please be assured that we take road safety very seriously and daily, we have to talk to people about their excessive speed on site, so it is categorically not just the children who get told. This could have been a very different scenario, if your children had been hit by a car or ran into a camper on site and injured them. We fully accept that your children were not the only ones we had to speak to on site as we had received complaints from other guests about the excessive speed the children were riding all over the campsite with no helmets or regard for anybody else's space. With regards to the children in the washing up area, the day before they had been asked not to play around the toilets, so on the occasion that you refer too were asked if they were playing or washing dishes. It's such a shame that you never came to the office or rang to let us know about excessive noise, as Mike is on call 24/7 and would have willingly came over and spoke to the people in question. Unfortunately we cannot do anything if we are not made aware of a problem and we had only received complaints about the dangerously excessive speeds children were travelling on bikes, which we acted on, not any noise. We realise that our site will not suit everyone , but we have campers who come back every year, because they love our peaceful site and we are not just a family site, we offer a peaceful getaway to everyone who may want to book with us. Five night stay

The site is very clean and tidy, quite a nice location for local transport. Well maintained, the management is always very friendly and helpful what ever the question is.

Friendly, relaxing stay

We stayed at the Old Stables for a short get away. The facilities were well maintained and the atmosphere was relaxed. Jayne and Mike ensured our stay was as comfortable as possible (even when our tent was defeated by the wind!) We will come again next year, thank you for being so accommodating.

Good location and great amenities

Can't fault the camp grounds, very convenient and we felt well catered for. They have a breakfast stand which was delicious and reasonably priced. Beach was a 10 minute drive, and you definitely need a car as not much is in walking distance. However, we (3 twenty-one year olds) felt camp issues raised to us were not thoroughly investigated. We were harshly accused multiple times of bringing unauthorised visitors onto the site- without the owners attempting to ask anyone else on the grounds if they were responsible. When the owners found out it was not us, there was not even an apology. I would also advise anyone who goes to bed after 10pm to be careful, as they are a "family friendly" campsite and do not tolerate any noise from tents after this time (even talking). Overall, great location and very clean amenities and criticism does not extend to all staff. Unfortunately, would not stay again as we did not feel hugely welcome as young people.

Great campsite!!! Can't wait to stay again

We stayed in this lovely campsite for a night, the facilities were clean and excellent. They had everything you needed including homemade cakes and an ice-cream van even came on. The pitches are large and flat and the campsite is extremely well kept. Can't wait for our next stay there.

Outstanding!

Outstanding site, staff very friendly and the overall site is very clean, spacious and well pitched out. Lovely touch with a welcome pack of Cornwall and everything there is to do. Will certainly be coming back again.

Excellent

Lovely campsite

Just a couple of miles outside Hayle in a great location this site has great facilities. On site is a takeaway service for food with specials on certain nights, prices reasonable i.e. breakfast roll egg bacon and sausage £5:50 and yummy.. Just a 15 minute walk away is The Turnpike Inn which has great pub food.. Shower's and toilet's are clean and for men and women separate, fire pits are also available, it's a dog friendly site. I enjoyed my stay here and would definitely visit again.

Family group stay

We stayed at the campsite for 3 nights Monday - Thursday and we had the best time. Toilets and showers always clean to a high standard, the host were incredibly friendly and helpful. lovely spacious plots, food vans were a bonus too! such a wonderful place and we will definitely be back. thank you for a great stay! 5 stars all round!

Quiet get away

On top of a hill, so a little windy at times. Excellent bus link. Friendly owner. Dogs not allowed in pod which was small, wouldn't want to try and cook in it. But fine to sleep. Clean and tidy.

The pods are small and were designed to just be a sleeping pod and as you acknowledged not suitable for cooking. We are glad that you found the bus link good. Not the best

Toilets were clean and modern. Site was a bit scruffy around smaller field and areas around shepherds huts would definitely benefit from being tidied and weeded. Shop stocks very little bar drinks, cakes and eggs but food van selling breakfast is a bonus, although its location opposite the bins isn't ideal! Not the friendliest of sites and their no visitors rule reinforces this. Good location though, near to lovely Gwithian though. Smaller field unfortunately is extremely close to a farm and noisy cockerel which definitely impacts ability to sleep! Nearby Turnpike Inn is a great place for eating out - would strongly recommend.

We are glad that you found the toilets clean and modern and the site in a good location for Gwithian Beach and the Turnpike Inn in the nearby village which is a 10 minute walk away. However we are sorry that you felt that the site was scruffy. We take great pride in the up keep of our site and protecting our environment and are governed by our planning regulations to provide Natural Habitat Corridors, which are crucial for maintaining biodiversity. We are very happy to comply with these regulations to protect our wildlife. Also in the countryside we are restricted from cutting back hedges from the beginning of March to October We fully acknowledge that the cockerel can be noisy and can only apologise that he gave you an early alarm call, every morning and made sleep difficult for you. Unfortunately we have no control over the birds, because they do not belong to us. However we do get amazingly fresh free range eggs from the farm, which we sell in the office, where we stock a few bits and pieces for convenience, which most of our guests find useful and welcome. It is lovely that you found the breakfast van a bonus, with the exception of the location, which although as you state is opposite the bins, to put it into perspective, there is actually the width of a road between the lidded bins and the back of the van, which is sealed. The front of the van with the serving hatch faces the office so that it doesn’t look out on the bins and is able to maintain a high standard of hygiene. With reference to the No Visitors policy. One of our main aims apart from providing a peaceful and safe environment for our paying guests, is to keep the site affordable for everyone who stays with us. We feel that there are many lovely places nearby where our guests can meet family and friends, negating the need for there to be multiple visitors on site, which would then increase the cost of upkeep of facilities and ground maintenance and puts the price up for paying guests. We fully accept that this will not suit everyone, but our site is for paying guests only and we make this very clear in our T’s and C’s (Terms and conditions), at the time of booking and again when your booking is confirmed, which gives everyone an informed choice to make the decision to accept the T’s and C’s and stay with us, or book a site which is more suited to their needs. There is also clear visible signage on site for people who are drive in bookings. We really appreciate that you did enquire if you could have a visitor on site and Mike at that time gave you the option to pay for your guest, which you declined. We can only apologise if you feel that this was not friendly of us in any way. We realise that our site will not suit everyone and hope that you find alternative sites in the future that will better suit your needs. Mike and Jayne

Lovely quiet site

Enjoyed our stay. Owners were friendly and helpful. Booking was easy, arrival was easy and quick, we were even allowed to leave a little late. The location was ideal for the things we wanted to do and the places we wanted to visit just off the A30.

Relaxing break

Stayed here for 2 nights for my boyfriend birthday, very cosy pod we stayed in. I love Gwithian/Godrevy so it was a perfect location for it. Very peaceful and relaxing. the facilities were spotless everyday all day, the owners were very welcoming. They could see us struggling with the bbq due to the high winds and came over and lent us some windbreaks for the evening. If you needed anything they were happy to help. Would definitely stay here again.

Camping getaway

The campsite was very good, a good size. The peg space was a really good size. We had a medium tent and there was a lot of room left for tables, chairs, BBQs etc. Very tidy. The toilet and showers were in good working order. Cleaned each day. Owners were extremely friendly and welcoming. There was a breakfast van over the weekend. Good variety of food. The couple who owned it were lovely. A short walk away from a pub and a shop. We would definitely be visiting again.

Great campsite

This was an ideal campsite for my granddaughter and I. Jayne was very welcoming and informative and whenever we saw Mark, he would say hello.. We were allocated a lovely and very spacious corner pitch. It was clearly marked out and nice and flat. The showers and toilet pods were extremely clean. The shower cubicle has a fold out seat, and the hooks are situated so that our clothes weren't wet when we finished showering, which is not often the case with campsite showers. The site was nice and quiet, which is just what we prefer. There was also a breakfast van on site, which served delicious breakfast baps, with good quality ingredients, they even delivered it to our camper and were very friendly. The location is ideal and is situated opposite Trevaskis Farm, which is a great place to go for lunch, take the children to see the farm animals, or go fruit picking. We found our stay to be very relaxing and we will definitely return.

Great comfortable camping pods

Great location we could reach most of the places in that part of Cornwall we really wanted to visit. Very comfortable.
