Birchwood Camping is a small, back-to-nature site set in a 6.5-acre wildflower meadow that is a haven for wildlife and set in a Dark Skies area for starry nights! The pitches welcome tents or campervans, with fire pits provided for each. The quarry pitches are set next to a stream, perfect for cooling off on a hot summer's day! For a bit of luxe, the bell tent which is set on decking sleeps four and has an adjacent BBQ area.

Why choose Birchwood Camping

Peaceful and eco friendly camping and glamping with fire pits and a stream for wild swimming too

Back to basics camping with spacious pitches set across over 6.5 acres of natural wildflower meadows

Incredible Dark Skies and a wildlife haven, spot swallows, owls, Muntjac deer and more!

About the site

An eco-friendly, off-grid campsite nestled in the Herefordshire countryside set between the towns of Leominster, Bromyard and Tenbury Wells. Enjoy a peaceful back to basics camping experience surrounded by nature, spot Muntjac deer from your pitch or listen to the soothing sounds of owls as you fall asleep. For camping, pitches are split between the meadow and the quarry, each without electric and mown into the long grass, surrounded by ancient hedgerows and woodland. The meadow pitches are set on a slightly sloping five acre field, the spacious pitches make it an ideal spot for families. Three of these pitches are for tents and two for campervans. A gate at the bottom of the meadow leads you to the quarry pitches, for tents only, set in a small area of 1.5 acres. These pitches are more secluded, surrounded by woodland with a small stream running alongside, an ideal spot for wild swimming! Pitches are set next to an old steam railway embankment and you can still see remnants of the old quarry face too! The bell tent sleeps up to four with a comfy king-sized bed and two futon mattresses for children. Bedding is provided for the king-sized bed, but for the futons you will need to bring sleeping bags. Set in the meadow the bell tent is raised on decking with seating, fire pit and BBQ for nights in the open. There are plenty of footpaths to take straight from the site to explore more of the Herefordshire countryside. Or head to Leominster, Bromyard or Tenbury Wells for independent boutique shops and cafes and a day of mooching. Slightly further afield are the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty a great day out for outdoors lovers! Fire pits are provided for each pitch, guests can also hire a mini pizza oven to go over the griddle. Sorry, dogs are not allowed on this site due to the surrounding livestock. At least one guest must be a member of the Greener Camping Club to stay at this site, the £12 membership fee can be added on when booking. This grants you access to over 160 eco friendly camping and glamping sites across England and Wales.

Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass Tent Pitches (Quarry)Aug 2025

Wow, what a find! I just got back from Birchwood Camping and I'm already itching to go back. If you're looking for a peaceful, back-to-basics camping experience, this is the place. First off, let's talk about the owners. They are the absolute best! From the moment we arrived, we were met with such genuine warmth and friendliness. They were so welcoming and helpful, and you could tell they truly love what they do. They were always around if you needed anything, but they also gave you plenty of space to just enjoy the peace and quiet. And speaking of peace and quiet, that's exactly what you get at Birchwood. Tucked away in a beautiful spot, it feels like a real escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The scenery is absolutely stunning, with lush greenery and open skies that make you feel a million miles away. But the real highlight for me was how spotless everything was. I'm a bit of a stickler for cleanliness, and I was so impressed. The facilities were immaculate, and the entire campsite was so well-maintained. It's clear that the owners take a lot of pride in their site, and it really shows. Birchwood Camping is the perfect spot for anyone who loves getting back to nature without all the bells and whistles. It's a proper camping experience – quiet, beautiful, and with the kindest staff you could ever hope to meet. I can't recommend it enough!

Large Tent - Non Electric Grass Tent Pitches (Meadow)Aug 2025

Will be booking again. The site is set out well, with plenty of space between pitches. The toilets and showers are very clean and well maintained. The location is remote enough to not hear any traffic but close enough to towns and other attractions. The owners are helpful and friendly, and helped us put our tent up when it started to get dark!
