About the site

For a peaceful escape in the Lake District National Park, this site offers a combination of countryside charm, wildlife, and comfort. Tucked beneath the slopes of Black Combe, this family-run working farm is surrounded by unspoilt scenery, birdsong, and open skies. For campers, there's something to suit everyone. The Streamside pitches and grass electric pitches are set beside a gently running beck, ideal for tents and small campervans. Each pitch has its own fire pit, with some car-free spots available across the stream for a peaceful, family-friendly camping experience. The hardstanding electric pitches provide 16 amp hook ups, private grass areas, and level, all-weather bases for caravans, campervans, and motorhomes up to 8m in length. For a more back-to-nature stay, Bramless and Little Mead Fields are open in summer only, offering non-electric pitches with wide-open views. Or, start your stay in style with one of four glamping options. The beautifully crafted Roundhouse sleeps four and includes a double bed, heating, a log burner, electricity, and a fully equipped kitchen. Three glamping cabins - Black Combe (sleeps 6), Wholebarrow, and Hook Knot (each sleeping 4) offer ensuite shower rooms, private decking, and the option to add a hot tub for a touch of luxury. Right next door, guests can experience the world's only BHS-approved Heavy Horse Riding Centre, home to the Cumbrian Heavy Horses. From gentle taster rides to exhilarating fell hacks, riders of all abilities can meet and ride these iconic Shires, Clydesdales, and Suffolk Punches. The farm's ancient Baystone Bank Woodland and winding stream provide habitat for birds and wildlife, while the peaceful valley setting makes the perfect base for exploring the South Lakes. Walks lead straight from the site to Black Combe and White Combe, with Haverigg Beach, Coniston Water, and the Cumbrian Coastal Path just a short drive away. Guests can enjoy clean, modern facilities with showers, toilets, a washing-up area, and a seasonal café and shop serving breakfast, light lunches, and local treats. Each pitch includes a private fire pit, and raised BBQs are welcome. Up to two dogs are also allowed per pitch.

A note from the site themselves...

My name is Annie, and I'll be your host here at Baystone Bank Farm Campsite. I started this adventure over 20 years ago, originally running riding tours around the Isle of Skye before moving myself, the horses, and the rest of the gang south to begin a new chapter here in the Lake District.

We first arrived at Baystone Bank in 2016, and it's grown into a true family business. My eldest son, Jamie, who helped set up campsite operations, and my youngest, Jack, look after the farm, tending to our cows and sheep. That leaves me to focus on what I love most, our magnificent heavy horses, who are at the heart of everything we do.

Alongside us is Emma, our wonderful campsite warden. She keeps things running smoothly, taking care of everything from bookings and guest enquiries to fresh bed changes in the glamping pods. Between us, we make sure every stay here is peaceful, comfortable, and full of that special Baystone Bank charm.

We hope you'll love our site as much as we do, and we can't wait to welcome you to our beautiful farm.

Beautiful views. Good service from warden team. Not quite enough men's facilities for a busy bank holiday weekend, but overall a great long weekend away.

Trailer Tent - Streamside Non Electric Grass PitchesAug 2025

This might be the perfect camping spot for family's. The built in kid entertainment creek is reason enough to comeback. Pitches are large. Site is clean. Staff is attentive. Quiet hours are enforced. Next time we ride the heavy horses!
