About the site

Situated just five minutes from the England and Wales border, along with the Brecon Beacons National Park, the site is in an ideal location for days out exploring. Surrounded by wildflowers and ancient woodland, this is the perfect spot for wildlife spotting and unwinding in the outdoors. The site offers three different camping areas, each with non electric grass pitches for tents and campervans. Each pitch allows up to six guests with access to a fire pit, great for evenings cooking up a BBQ or toasting marshmallows. The Wood Field area has two pitches available, each a small semi-circle mown into the long grass. This field is vehicle free and the furthest from the facilities, though there are wheelbarrows to help transport your things and it is wonderful for peace and quiet. There is also the Church Field area which provides two extra large pitches and two regular pitches. Each pitch is mown into tall meadow grass, enjoying beautiful views over to the Black Mountains. The main camping pitches lie in the Flat Field, each surrounded by wildflower grass with a mown play area in the centre, great for kids! If you're looking for a true escape, the cosy camping pod for four is hidden amongst the trees, sitting high over the orchard. Inside the insulated pod you will find deep-filled mattresses, along with electric heating and power sockets. Double doors open out onto a balcony with glorious views over to the Black Hill. A lower seating area provides you with an ideal spot for al fresco dining, equipped with a picnic table, log bench and a fire pit with a grill. Please note, bed linen, crockery, cutlery and cooking equipment are not provided for the pod. Located on a working farm, there are slow-growing cattle, sheep and pigs in the surrounding fields with the produce available from the onsite farm shop. Due to the resident animals, the site is pet free so dogs are not allowed, sorry. The site is also certified with the Greener Camping Club so at least one guest per pitch must be a member, though this can be purchased when you book.

There are also two acres of woodland for kids to play and build dens. There is also a cosy communal stable with a wood burner where guests can eat, along with outdoor tables.

There is an onsite farm shop selling produce from their own livestock. The site also serves hot and cold drinks and breakfast made from their produce. Toasties and cake and food can be served at any time of the day plus local beers, ciders, perry, juice and ice cream. The shop also has a mill and sells heritage flour.

The Bulls Head gastropub is also just a five minute walk away. Haye on Wye is also just a 15 minute drive from the site, a touristy book town with a refurbished castle and independent shops, including a Spar and Co-op. There's also a great wild swimming spot and shingle beach where the Wye passes through fields known as the Warren in Hay.

A note from the site themselves...

Our site is based on our working farm. We have native and slow-growing cattle, sheep and pigs which are suited to life in the hilly wilds of Craswall.

The White Parks are great for conservation grazing too. Similarly, our rooting pigs enjoy the same plants and also turn the soil, providing new opportunities for plants and insects to flourish These are key grazers, doing the same job as the wild boar and cattle of ancient Britain.

Their eating and browsing action is the driving force behind our natural ecosystems. They are an essential ingredient of a healthy, diverse ecosystem upon which plants, animals, fungi, protoctista, and bacteria rely on. They are also a vital part of our fight against climate change, a central component of what we are trying to do!

Camping Pod - Camping PodApr 2025

We had a wonderful time at Chapel House Farm over Easter weekend! Anita, Simon and Griffin the dog were very welcoming and were on hand for any questions we had. We were staying in the glamping pod which was very cosy for 3 of us, I think 4 people would have been a squeeze but you could do it if you're smart about luggage space! The pod came with a little plug in heater which kept it nice and warm and thick mattresses which were comfy and just what was needed. It's a good idea to bring walking boots/ wellies for the walk down to the toilets as it can get a bit slippy when wet. The facilities were good, nice warm shower and fridge and freezer in the kitchen area too. The farm is a lovely place with chickens roaming freely, you can tell Simon and Anita have poured their hearts into it. The farm shop is stocked with food from the farm, too. Would definitely visit again!

The site location was perfect for us. The facilities were poor and the price paid is definitely not value for money.

Peaceful, wonderful campsite.
