About the site

The campsite overlooks the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), with Apedale and Corvedale on either side of Wenlock Edge, which are quiet and secluded. This small eco-friendly off-grid campsite offers a peaceful retreat away from the noise and pace of urban life. Hidden behind woodland, away from the noise of roads, in a secluded Dark Skies Area. Wake up to birdsong and keep an eye out for local wildlife right from your pitch. Deer are often spotted at dawn and dusk, while buzzards, kestrels, red kites and owls are regular visitors overhead. With a limited number of generously sized pitches, the site prioritises peace, privacy and space. Choose between grass pitches and all weather hardstanding for campervans, tents, trailer tents, roof tents, and motorhomes (up to 7m, no twin axles). For those seeking extra privacy, there's a sheltered field just for tents and a very secluded tent pitch, "The Hide-Away". The campsite operates a low-impact, sustainable model, powered entirely by solar energy. All pitches benefit from solar-generated, 10 amp electric hook ups (optional) and water points around the field, supporting a more environmentally friendly stay. The site is operated with minimal environmental impact and eco policies. With a focus on tranquillity, camper numbers are low to ensure peace and relaxation with generously sized pitches. Tent campers can unload at their pitch in dry weather. Vehicles are then parked nearby off field to preserve the serene atmosphere and make the site safer for children. There are heated (by solar power), modern free showers and toilets, a communal fire pit/BBQ, a wood-fired pizza oven, and a fridge-freezer to keep things cool, all free to use. Seasoned logs are available from reception to keep you warm. Fire pits/BBQ and pizza ovens for hire to use at your pitch for that romantic campfire evening. Please note, privately owned fire pits/BBQs brought onto the site may only be used in the central fire-safe area. There's a lovely shelter pod with phone charging points and reading lights, great for those in small tents to watch the sun go down or when the weather is less favourable. Powered entirely by a large photovoltaic solar system, it's a haven for nature lovers, families, bird-watchers, and stargazers alike. Some seasonal hardstanding pitches are available for a long-term rate, and the entire site can be reserved exclusively for private functions, parties, events and filming. To ensure the safety of guests and improve site hygiene, the site does not accept dogs. For your safety and security, an ANPR system operates site access, and a time-lock gate operates from 7:30pm to 7:30am.

Onsite facilities include modern separate men's and women's toilets, free heated hot showers, hair dryers, hand dryers, sanitiser and soap. Black (Elsan chemical) and grey-water disposal. There is a communal fridge/freezer to keep your food fresh, a pizza oven, along with a covered wash-up area with large sinks and hot water. Drinking water is also nearby most pitches.

There's a free to use giant communal fire pit in the centre of the camping field (subject to safe weather conditions). A shelter pod offers phone charging points and reading lights. There is free WiFi at all pitches.

A 15 minute drive from the site is the charming village of Much Wenlock, which offers good shops, pubs and fuel, including The George and Dragon Real Ale pub. Other pubs nearby include the Riverside Inn overlooking the River Severn (recommended) at Cross Houses.

This is the best campsite we have been to. Here are a few things that made it so enjoyable: • stunning views • a small and well-maintained site • huge pitches • nice and flat pitches • each pitch has its own water tap (game changer !!) • clean and good quality showers and toilets • friendly and accommodating hosts! Linda was amazing - we were not sure if we would be able to make it due to a family matter and she was amazing and understanding • great location to explore beautiful Shropshire The only negative I have is that it has now ruined all future sites for us as this one will be hard to beat!!

A note from the site themselves...

Operating mainly off-grid and aiming to be as carbon-neutral as possible, it's how we lower our impact on the environment. Most of the electricity is generated from a large PV solar array. The subdued lighting around the site is dimmed (saving energy) to preserve our Dark Skies, so you will need a torch in some areas. We work hard to make our site peaceful and stress free. We no longer accept dogs so children will be safe and the ground is hygienic.

Solar Electricity generated during the day is used for heating the showers, enhanced with efficient Heat-Pump technology. Surplus power is exported to the National Grid, further reducing our carbon footprint. Waste water from toilets and washing stays on site and passes through a living reed-bed complex (all operated by gravity using zero power) and onwards to an evaporation pond supporting local wildlife, ensuring we don't pollute the groundwater table or streams nearby.

HVO (100% renewable) fuel is used for generators and cutting grass. We encourage our guests to use biodegradable detergents and products during their stay.

The Industrial Revolution World Heritage site started in Shropshire in the 1790s, with many UNESCO sites nearby to visit. Roman Mines on the Stiperstones are good for trekking.

The National Trust, Ironbridge Gorge, the Birthplace of Industry, is 25 minutes away. Here, you can visit Blists Hill Victorian town (54 acres) and the ten local museum sites. These ten sites include Enginuity, Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron, and the Jackfield Tile Museums, as well as 35 other buildings. All free for members.

Pontcysyllte Canal Aqueduct - Thomas Telford's masterpiece of engineering (UNESCO) (40 minutes away and free). Don't miss the experience of walking across if you have a head for heights.

The site is also on several cycle networks, Shropshire Hills 70, near the Jack Mytton Way and the Marcher Castles tour. With wonderful hiking routes and wild swimming in the River Severn (20 minutes), it is a great spot for outdoor lovers. The area is also popular with foodies, with real ale trails and lovely shops in Much Wenlock.
