Enjoying a stunning location within the Lake District, Near Howe is an idyllic campervan site with a small number of grass pitches set off the beaten track. A certificated site with the Motor Caravanners Club, it's peaceful, being located atop a hill, with a number of walks and bike routes easily accessed from site . The Solway Coast is under an hour away too. Dog friendly and non-members welcome.

Directions from site were clear and precise. Though the long track was a bit of a struggle in places, it was all well worth it. The pitches are in a great location, wonderful views and very peaceful. The only downside for campervans is that there is just the one toilet and shower (both in the same room). However, the facilities were first rate. Would be more than happy to recommend the site for campervans.

We had a lovely stay at Near Howe. Amazing location if your looking for a halfway point for heading further north, 10 mins off the M6. The facilities were spot on, our dog was allowed off the lead, which he loved. Brilliant for a base camp to go and explore the Lakes. There is a pub just down the road, walkable distance. We will definitely be using this campsite in the future. Many thanks.

Firstly, the weather always helps. A great location for us away from the honeypot towns and villages. Great views and a breeze to keep the midges away. The access track is slightly steep at one point- it says so on the info. A couple of guests seemed surprised by this but it definitely states this on the website. My T5 LWB is useless when it comes to traction but was fine going up and down. 40 min walk to the pub across the fields might be a bit boggy in wet weather but the road is quiet. Facilities are new and clean, plenty of hot water. Our only issue as a family of four was access to the toilet/shower. No problem waiting for the single shower at all- not in a rush, however the toilet is in the same room and this was a little frustrating at times, especially when 5 vans were on site. This didn't spoil our stay but would be something to be improved for the camping experience. The owners were more than helpful with our needs during our stay. Many thanks.

Really lovely little site with the most amazing views. Only 5 pitches, which is fine, although the toilet and shower are in the same room, which meant there was a bit of a queue if someone was using the shower. However, the facilities were clean. They did run out of toilet roll though and no one obvious to ask, but we had our own to share with the other campers.

Many thanks for the review and glad you enjoyed your stay. Sorry to hear we ran out of toilet paper - it's only happened once as we check the facilities regularly. We live on site at reception so if you'd let us know, we would have been happy to provide some more.

5 pitches in a field with uninterrupted views of the hills. Perfect. The only issue is that there is one toilet and one shower.

My daughter requested we camp on a mountain and that's what we got with Near Howe. It's a picturesque location at the top of a hill, overlooking a valley towards Mungrisdale off the A66, and is perfectly placed between Penrith and Keswick. We were met by the owner on arrival to welcome us, however I had received my pitch site in an information email when I booked. This email also included how to find them, which was very useful as the Sat Nav in our camper and the phones would not work.

Beautiful little campsite perched high up with amazing views of Blencathra. The site was very clean and tidy. Just one shower/toilet room though, which you couldn't know was engaged or not until you got to the door. Other than that, a perfect site, thank you!

What a view, unbelievable! Only five pitches so do get in early. Outstanding views. The shower and loo were the best we've seen. And washing facilities with a games room. Clear and well labelled recycling. No electricity so if you want to go off grid and take a view this is it!

The perfect location, away from the madding crowds. The hillside campsite offered the most stunning views. With a small number of pitches, there was no problem with overcrowding at the site. The field was fully secured so that the dogs were able to play. Perfectly located near to Keswick for lakeland exploring. We are looking forward to returning.

This is a small, dog friendly site for 5 small campervans. There is one new bathroom and toilet with heating, very clean with a good shower as well as a laundry area. Mark came out to greet us, very friendly chap. We walked to the pub about a mile away that served great pies, we both had the rabbit & venison served with mash peas & gravy. Great views. We even stayed an extra night!
