Birchbank is a small campsite on a Lake District sheep farm, located on the fells between Coniston Water and the Duddon Estuary. The site has a small stream running through it which the children love to play in and is next to the fell, with footpaths and bridleways directly from the gate making it ideal for walking and cycling.

Would recommend to anyone. The location was perfect, with lovely secluded scenery but not far from Ulverston for shops and the Consiton/Windermere lakes. Great value for money considering all of the facilities (showers, toilets, fridge/freezer) and overall cleanliness and upkeep of the campsite! Host was lovely and accommodating and would certainly return.

We loved our stay here. The facilities were regularly cleaned and although basic gave us everything we needed. The local area is beautiful and we did a couple of the recommended walks which were stunning. Our children loved playing in the stream and watching the farm animals every day.

I had a fabulous stay at Birchbank farm! The site itself is lovely, I camped beside the stream and enjoyed the sound of water on a night time! The facilities are well maintained, this is only a basic campsite as advertised but has certainly impressed me. Staff are lovely, showers and toilets are cleaned regularly. There's an onsite fridge and freezer for use. And a tumble dryer if needed too! Plenty of things close by e.g shops, bars and gas stations. I particularly liked how isolated you felt as this is located in the hills so plenty of beautiful walking opportunities to get away from the everyday hustle! I would certainly stay here again! Oh and of course the cute on-site cats who welcome you with a big rub up your leg! Thank you again!

A great find in the middle of no where however only a 15 minute drive into Ulverston. Very peaceful and surrounded by gorgeous views. The drive to the site was nothing short of beautiful. Some great winding roads passing some great wildlife and scenery. The campsite is small, the facilities always clean and well stocked, and great to have washing/drying facilities onsite. A lovely little river by our pitch was a great addition and the children loved playing in it! We unfortunately didn't have the weather on our side and it was a very wet stay. However, this is something that cannot be helped and we tried to make the most of it by heading to the village to walk up to see the Ulverston monument and even went to visit Cartmel, which was a lovely village as well. It was great to see the sheep being herded into the farm on our last night whilst making the most of a BBQ whilst it was dry for a few hours! The host was lovely and welcoming. Thank you for having us!

We're both very new to the camping scene but decided to give it a go on the last weekend of September 2023 and found this site. Peace and quiet away from the rigours of daily life are always welcome, but this place is about 2 miles from the nearest A road, so not even a passing car (apart from the farmers Land Rover)! In fact, the loudest thing was some shotguns shooting grouse on Saturday morning a good few miles away. Only concern was no phone signal whatsoever, data or calling. I enjoyed the disconnection but be warned if you need this! Will we be back? Absolutely!

A beautiful and quiet spot. We really enjoyed our stay. The facilities were very clean, the site was situated in what felt like a hideaway from the world, yet we could easily drive to Coniston and Windermere.

If you like a site in middle of nowhere it's ideal. Beautiful countryside. On a farm so lots of animals around. Facilities bit basic but very clean. Ulverston quite near for shops etc.

This campsite is a working farm set in the most scenic location, surrounded by nothing but beautiful rolling hills. Only a 30 minute drive to Coniston, and a 25 minute drive to the bottom of Windermere lake, it's a super convenient location as well. The facilities were kept immaculately clean, and were easy to access/use. I couldn't recommend this place enough.

Pleasant location on a working farm. The barking dogs late at night were annoying but it's a dog friendly campsite and we had our own.

This is the second year we have been to Birchbank and we will be booking for next year soon. It is set in the most beautiful part of the lakes, right next to all our favourite walks. The facilities are basic but VERY clean and well maintained. The pitches are huge and the view from the tent is stunning. The price is amazing. As a large family holidays can be quite pricey, but not at BirchBank. The kids had the best time spotting the farm animals on the fells. I would highly recommended this campsite to all.

I have recently returned from a short family trip (2 nights) to this quaint beautiful working sheep farm. The host, Mrs Nicholson, was extremely polite and helpful upon our arrival and was a regular smiling face about the farm/campsite when we were there. The farm is a short drive (roughly 5 minutes taking it slow) on a single track road through countryside with farmers sheep roaming wild and free - the kids loved how close to the car some sheeps would venture. On the drive to the farm the views are nothing short of spectacular! The site has a lovely town called Ulverston with shops, bars and restaurants only a 15 minute drive away. We used the campsite as a base for trips to Lake Windermere. Site has 3 showers, multiple toilets a communal standard fridge/freezer (be considerate to other campers and don't fill it up with things you can easily purchase locally) as well as a washing machine and a tumble dryer - perfect for trips for kids!

Excellent campsite, returned again after a great stay last year. Group of 6 mates, facilities are simple but clean and well maintained. Noise curfew of around 10pm but that's not an issue as long as you aren't blaring music and shouting. Campsite is around 15 mins from Ulverston which is really handy and close enough to Coniston. Overall a great experience, will definitely return again. Very well priced, especially if it's a group who are splitting the cost, worked out at around £15 each, total, for 3 nights in August.

Good site in rural area - facilities are fine and fridge/freezer/washer is a bonus. Showers can get busy as there aren't many, but we never found it a problem. Non-electric is a 'find your own space field' which is good, as you are able to pitch where you like.

My family and I stayed here as we were visiting South Lakes Zoo. Initially, we booked it for its close proximity to the zoo - being just a 25 min drive away. Upon arrival the site was as expected, a working farm with amazing views! We had a lovely warm welcome and just needed to pitch where we fancied (non electric). The facilities had everything needed for a comfortable stay. A toilet block with showers, a separate shower in another building, a communal fridge (although we didn't need to use it) and a pot wash. All of which were incredibly clean and cleaned regularly throughout the day too. The only thing I missed was a baby change unit, other than that I couldn't fault it. Our two children either spent evenings playing football by the stream and loved every minute. Lovely country feel to a very peaceful site, sheep everywhere we even had an unexpected visit from some local horses one day too which was just lovely! One thing I'd recommend to campers would be if you need a few groceries nip to a shop on the way. Once you're there and pitched up it's a bit of a drive, and I personally wouldn't have liked to have done it in the dark. We will be booking to stay again, and very much look forward to it!
