Simple, unspoilt and in an untouched location - Cockingford Farm has all you need for a back-to-basics trip. It's set in the Dartmoor National Park and a favourite with Duke of Edinburgh or Scout groups on expedition. A river meanders along the bottom of the site, where kiddies can paddle and play, plus there are friendly animals to meet on this working farm. Dog friendly.
The campsite sits on the edge of a rural village, just 1.5 miles from its shops, cafes and amenities. The farm is home to pigs (and sometimes piglets!) and sells the freshest of local meat and veg. Forget about marked out pitches, this is a place where you can turn up and choose your spot in a grassy field without electric. The team here like to keep things simple and so there's no need to book - unless you're bringing a Duke of Edinburgh group. Dogs are welcome on a lead.
Open from 15 March to 15 November

Unfortunately Cockingford Farm doesn't share their availability calendar with us yet. Availability changes quickly, especially in summer, so we recommend enquiring by phone to avoid missing out.
Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a lead. Charcoal BBQs only and to maintain the peaceful nature of the campsite, we ask for no music to be played. No electric hook ups.
Saunter via the footpath and a quiet road into the local village and then receive a warm welcome and something to quench your thirst from the Rugglestone Inn.
Every second Tuesday of September it's time for the Widecombe Fair, where dogs are welcome and you can browse craft stalls, watch the animals and have a pint in the beer tent.
Ashburton is popular for its outdoor swimming pool and you can have a good nosey through its history in the local museum.
