Things to do when camping in Exmoor
Heritage, arts and culture and beautiful countryside are in abundance in Exmoor, with vibrant towns and villages, castles and museums there is plenty to see and do.
The 13th Century Cleeve abbey boasts some of the countries most revered cloister buildings and rare Cistercian paintings. Dunster Castle, with its working water mills was built in the 17th Century and boasts a collection of old architectural machinery in its museum. The packhorse bridge in Allerford, and the pretty cottages of Bossington are also worth visiting.
The Working Wool Museum, Coldharbour Mill is another popular attraction where you see old spinning and weaving machines in action. The Dartington Crystal factory is fascinating for all ages, and the Exmoor Brass Rubbing & Hobbycraft Centre is also fun for all the family.
Children will love the Exmoor Safari where you can spot Wild Red Deer and other wildlife. Quince Honey Farm, where you can admire the world's largest exhibition of living honey bees is an unusual and fun attraction for all, or you may wish to take a tour around Sheppy's Cider Farm and sample some local produce.
The Glen Lyn Gorge is a breathtaking site and the informative exhibition shows how water can be harboured for hydro-electricity. The Lynmouth Cliff Railway is a unique Victorian Railway and makes for an exciting day trip out, and the West Somerset Railway is Britain's longest preserved one.
The famous Tarka Trail is fantastic for walkers and cyclists alike with excellent scenery and views of the river and estuary too. Wimbleball Lake is another popular place for walking, camping and enjoying picnics by the water. The Brendon Hills, and of course the cast Exmoor National Park are also great for exploring the areas countryside
