Sprinter-Type Campervan - Church Field Camping PitchesJun 2023

We had the most wonderful stay at Chapel House. The campsite is part of a working farm and the family who run it are working to create a truly special place. The farm ethos centres around sustainability, eco and heritage, this means there were extra special touches such as wild flower meadows with paths and pitches mown out, ancient grains turned into flour and heritage cattle. Not your average campsite. The farm shop was stocked with all home or locally grown goods. The site itself and location was beautiful, it felt remote and wild but still close to Hay on Wye providing the best of both. Pitches were spacious with large gaps in-between so it did not feel crowded and provided each camper with their own space. We felt like we were the only ones there! Views across to the black mountains and beyond provided the perfect backdrop to an evening round the fire pit. We stayed with our 6 month daughter and it really was wonderful, allowing us to create some treasure memories in a very special place. We would recommend to anyone and hope to return in the future!

Medium Tent - Flat Field Camping PitchesApr 2024

A campsite at Craswall - it most certainly is, being the raison d'être. So, being Craswall, 'The Black Mountain's' fickle weather patterns influence almost everything. You are camping, but please be aware the pitches all seem quite exposed to the elements (however, would great in Summer - big skies etcetera ). Your site facilities (shower, water, flushing loo) are down at the farmhouse, which can be quite a trek away. Having said that, there is at least one eco-loo & the facilities themselves are all robust, functional and clean. Although I had only a brief stay, the farm/site owners were very friendly & helpful. Did I say that you're in Craswall? The campsite gives almost direct walking access to the mountains and is also quite near to a much loved "Michelin Star' Gastro-Pub ('nuff said 😎). To summarise, when previously there, there was only some "rough camping" available locally. For the few £'s that you pay and for the location alone, it's a 👍 from me. Now when can I get back there…

Friendly and well located

VW-Type Campervan - Church Field Camping PitchesApr 2024

Great welcome and guidance finding a spot suitable, given the softness of the ground after weeks of rain. Friendly and helpful. Site is well located for walking. Getting there was a bit like the Cornish lanes, make sure you make metal note of the passing places you pass and make sure you know how to reverse.

Lovely site

Really lovely stay, great facilities and a very warm welcome. We camped in our Caddy Camper and had everything we needed, and walked from the campsite onto the Black Hill ridge for a 10 mile circular. If you are looking for peace and quiet, this is the place for you.

Medium Tent - Wood Field Camping PitchesMar 2024

We had a lovely 3 night stay at Chapel House Farm, we were in the church field. Anita was super helpful and welcoming. Nearby Hay-on-Wye is a lovely town, great for book lovers, and great walks in the black mountains are only a 15 min drive away. We would definitely stay again!

Really beautiful campsite at the foot of the Black Mountains. Facilities cover all bases and in great condition. The host is friendly and helpful. I really sensed a respect for the natural and cultural heritage of the area in how the campsite operates.

Great site, lovely people and lots on offer there

Small Tent - Flat Field Camping PitchesAug 2023

Insufficient toilet facilities, a long walk down then uphill to the flat field. Be better with 1 composting toilet per field. Showers not very warm and very cold in the shower block as they are not fully enclosed.

Site's response

Many thanks for your feedback. We are a spacious campsite with15 acres of wildflower meadows, and prefer not to have toilets in all our fields for aesthetic reasons. That said, we do have a compost loo fairly centrally located. From there it is then just a two minute walk to our three flushing loos and three showers. Guests should note that there are slopes and steps. Altogether the number of loos and showers are more than the requirement for the number of pitches we have. It is unusual for our showers to be cool. We have solar hot water pipes plus an electric immersion which increases the water temperature to the required level. Just occasionally the water temperature can dip. Recently, for example, there was a power cut following a storm which affected this. We were sorry to hear you did not have the warmest shower. We do have a fully enclosed shower which you may not have seen. The other two showers are in an oak framed building with open front panels at the very top, which would be chillier in cool weather. The cubicles themselves however are fully enclosed and provide a warm shower experience. We always appreciate feedback and will endeavour to monitor our water temperature.

Great camp site, a good variety of pitches, welcoming hosts

Small Tent - Wood Field Camping PitchesAug 2023

My camping partner had recently broken his ankle after we'd booked the wood field pitches, which unfortunately were no longer suitable due to his lack of mobility. we were offered a different pitch which we could park on and set up camp. This was much appreciated and enabled us to still enjoy our booked trip. Lovely site, with great views, very quiet and the pitches were cut into the wild meadow grass which made for an ideal setting. Will definitely return. Thank you.

Pod - Camping PodJul 2023

This was the most beautiful area to stay in. Very quiet and relaxed. lots of areas to explore. my 7 year old was very content making camp fires, hunting bugs and skimming rocks. The pod was small but perfect for what we needed. The views were amazing. Facilities were very good and quirky. We was greeted when we arrived and everyone was super friendly and helpful. Griffin the dog was always happy to see us. The local pub isn't always open, which is the same for most pubs in the area, so check opening times and food serving times and reserve a table where possible to avoid disappointment. Every meal we had was delicious and I highly recommend the meat available in the site farm shop. This is the perfect place to get away from it all and be at one with nature.

Pod - Camping PodMay 2023

This was exactly what I was looking for! I stayed in the camping pod for one night with my 28yr old daughter. The pod was spacious for the two of us; the mattresses were very comfortable and all facilities were very clean. The weather was perfect and we enjoyed cooking food on the fire. Anita was very helpful and on her recommendation, we tried out the pub across the valley that was 5 minute's walk. It was very pleasant and had a lovely garden. The best part was the cacophony of birdsong throughout the evening and the following morning.

A perfect campsite with amazing view of Black Hill. We had relaxing two nights at this beautiful site, woke up with birds chirping and locking eyes with cute doggie made us smile. Definitely will come back again.

Pod - Camping PodMay 2023

We stayed in the pod for 2 nights. It was warm and cosy and blissfully peaceful. The location is stunning and it is close to Hay on Wye, Hereford and Brecon for day trips. It was a true escape from the rat race. Our hosts were lovely and so helpful. One word of warning, the pod is at the top of a slope which got slippery in the rain.

A stunning place to relax with the family

Pod - Camping PodApr 2023

My husband, daughter (7) and I spent the BH weekend at Chapel House Farm, what a fantastic spot. We stayed in the camping pod, which was nestled in between trees with the most amazing views of the black hills. The pod is a short walk to the loos/ kitchen/ showers, which are really clean and have little vases of fresh flowers in them - such a lovely touch. The pod was really comfortable, it has its own balcony, fire pit and picnic bench. The balcony came in very handy on one day as we had rain, we were able to cook breakfast without getting wet and we took full advantage of the campfire and picnic bench in the evening, the perfect spot for watching the sun go down, eating, enjoying a glass of wine and relaxing. There is electricity in the pod, which we used to charge our phones, there's a heater but we didn't need it as the nights were relatively warm and rechargeable lights. We felt very lucky, only another family camping and they were situated in another field, although, the site is so well spaced out it wouldn't have mattered if there were more campers. We enjoyed having full reign of the facilities and peace. Simon and Anita (owners) were so helpful, always on hand with local advice, we took up their recommendation of The Bridge Inn, in Michaelchurch, well worth it, fantastic food, wonderful staff and yet another gorgeous spot. Also, head to the very local pub Bull Head (just up the road) lovely staff and local ales, we had bar snacks which were really good. The campsite also has its own shop, selling meats, salads, ales, ciders and cakes. We stocked up before we left and have had the most amazing food this week - sausages and steak to die for. Simon was kind enough to show us his herd and give my husband some great tips on local tracks for cycling and walking. I highly recommend this site, wonderful views, fantastic facilities, and a great place to chill with the family and let the little ones explore.
