The Orchard at Norcott is a relaxed back to basics spot for tent camping only set close to the Grand Union Canal and a spacious common, part of the National Trust's Ashridge Estate. Here you'll find a pretty setting within the Chilterns, nice views and a chance to light a small fire in a fire pit and toast some marshmallows. Nearby Northchuch offers all the country pubs and little shops you need.

About The Orchard at Norcott

This small and green site sits at the top of a lane, alongside an expansive stretch of common and parkland (more than 400 hectares!). The common is charming and packed with wildlife - as you'd expect, being part of an enormous National Trust estate. Shy deer can be spotted at times and it's a very special place. Relax in your tent and get back to the natural world. Pitches don't offer electric, but there is space for a small campfire so that you can cosy up and stargaze. Dogs welcome by prior arrangement.

Open from 1 March to 31 October

A 30 minute stroll will take you to historic Aldbury and it's just a couple of miles to the Valiant Trooper pub. The Sunday roast here is highly recommended but you can also take a longer walk along the canal to Berkhamsted and find lots of great places to eat and drink.

In the spring you'll love seeing bluebells blossom in Ashridge's woodland. Saunter for a while and then indulge in a tasty cake in the estate tea room.

The remains of Berkhamsted Castle are a 35 minute walk along the canal from the campsite and they couldn't be better for a family picnic.
