Things to do in Aylesbury

Buckinghamshire's county town centres around a wide market square with a grand clock tower, dating back to the 1800s.

Meet a few furry friends at Abbotts View Alpacas for unforgettable alpaca walks and pre-booked group experiences. The farm has 22 spacious acres full of delightful animals and you can take a 45 minute stroll to meet pygmy goats, sheep and of course lots of cute alpacas, before finishing up with tea and cake.

For anyone who loves trains, a trip to the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre is the perfect way to steam off on an adventure. It's a properly pooch friendly experience and you won't want to miss the dish of the day in the cafe after.

More magic will come alive for the kids at the delightful Roald Dahl Children's Gallery where you can immerse yourself in the world of Roald Dahl's fantastic stories. From Willy Wonka's madcap adventures to a look inside the ears of the BFG, it's all here - and the gallery is part of the Bucks County Museum where the older ones can have a nosey at art, archaeology, wildlife and social history exhibits.

When the sun sets, the fun doesn't have to stop - pop into one of the local pubs for a pint or try a slap up meal - there are more than 60 to choose from. And Aylesbury Waterside Theatre is sure to whet your appetite, known for everything from ballet to West End musicals. If you fancy yourself as a bit of a beer buff, Chiltern Brewery will set you up with a tour of their craft, washed down with a tutored beer and food tasting.

Are you more about getting revved up than relaxing? Kids and those who are just kids at heart can whizz round the go-karting track at Rogue Racing, as well as fun days out at GB Shooting and Go Ape at Wendover Woods which are close to the town.

Ready to drive further afield? Get those warm and fuzzy feelings at Bucks Goat Centre with a spot of animal feeding and handling sessions. Don't be fooled by the name, there are floppy bunnies, clucking hens and pintsize ponies here, alongside the goats you'd expect.

From decadent gardens to dazzling interiors, there's something for everyone at the National Trust's Waddesdon Manor - and it has a wonderful art collection and an aviary. Spend hours browsing its lavish state rooms and then get down  to some serious exploring in its grounds.

A quick ride in the car opens up the beauty of the fantastic Chilterns AONB too.
