Things to do in Liverpool

When you’ve finished unpacking, head into the city and admire its impressive cathedral, where you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views overlooking the city from the top. Perhaps plan your visit in time to hear the magnificent bells echoing from the tower.

For a fun way of seeing the sights, take the Liverpool Mystery Treasure Trail.  Try solving the clues with the kids as you follow the hints taking you to some of the city’s lesser known attractions.

If you’re after more stunning views, take a trip to the Radio City Tower – Liverpool’s second tallest building. Towering over the city centre, at 450 feet, this viewpoint looks out to Merseyside, Wirral as well as the Lake District!

Or take a ride on the Wheel of Liverpool which offers panoramic views of the city’s famous landmarks – ideal for either a daytime activity or evening after dinner.

Afterwards, bring the family to Sefton Park. Wander through the 235 acre park and tuck into a picnic amongst the pretty backdrop of the Palm House or the Peter Pan statue. Kids can enjoy exploring the caves and waterfalls before running wild in the playground. While they’re releasing some energy, catch your breath with a hot cuppa at the Aviary Café.

Another option for lush greenery is Calderstones Park. With 94 acres to explore, wander to the Japanese gardens or find a picnic spot in the old English gardens.

Those looking to top up their tan can do so at Crosby beach, just 20 minutes from the city. Soak up some sunshine before a walk along the Coastal Path at sunset.

Why not also take the kids to meet the animals at Knowsley Safari? With over 750 animals inhabiting the park, there’s no shortage of wild creatures for you to see. Drive along the Tiger Trail or book one of the safari experiences for a day out with rhinos, giraffes or meerkats.

The city also has plenty of activities right on its doorstep. Watch the kids reach exciting heights on the climbing wall at the Climbing Hangar or join in yourself! The little ones can get involved too with a beginner’s climbing wall as well as tunnels and slides.

Or enjoy bouncing along at Spring City Trampoline Park. Watch the youngsters bob along on nearly 100 trampolines from the wall and floor as they try out new tricks or play games of dodgeball.

For the Beatles fans in the family, head to the Beatles Story museum in the heart of the city. Admire the exhibition displaying authentic memorabilia once owned by the band members ranging from Ringo Starr’s drum kit to John Lennon’s glasses.

To see all the sights linked to the band, hop on board the Magical Mystery Tour bus taking you to their childhood days as you pass their old homes and schools. Stop at Penny Lane and Strawberry Field before getting a souvenir from the Cavern Club.

Football fanatics can spend their days touring the Liverpool FC Museum with behind the scenes access to areas of Anfield Stadium and hands on exhibits in the interactive museum. Admire the Steven Gerrard Collection before strolling through the Halls of Fame with tributes to stars of the club both past and present.

Nearby, the bustling cities of Chester and Manchester are under an hour away with impressive sights such as the Chester Cathedral and the Manchester Art Gallery.
