Things to do in Preston
Close to the city centre, visit the adjoining Avenham and Miller Parks. Spend the day away from the city buzz and walk around the beautiful greenery – plenty of space for the kids to have a runaround. Bring a packed lunch and sit by the Gazebo before heading up the steps for a closer look at Lord Denby’s statue.
Those wanting to spot some wildlife can visit Brockholes nature reserve. Bring your binoculars and head to the lookout to see what you’ll find as each season brings different inhabitants.
You can also see birds of prey at Turbary Woods. Walk through the woodland and see the eagles, owls and more before watching a flying display.
After you’ve admired the wildlife, take the Preston Spy Mission Treasure Trail. See if you can crack the code as you discover clues hidden throughout the town – fun for the whole family!
If the sun isn’t shining, take the kids to Energi Trampoline Park. Take flight on the Fusion Skyride and have fun mucking about on the inflatable obstacle course before seeing how high you can go on the climbing wall.
Alternatively, enjoy a day out at Level. Reserve a lane for a game of bowling or see which member of the family can score 180 at darts. Older kids can have a go at tackling the assault course or aim for a hole in one on a round of crazy golf. Â
Soak up some art and culture at the Harris Museum. Head to the Discovery Room and see the skeleton of a 10,000 year old elk from the Ice Age. There are also archaeological artefacts to admire and you can try out one of the drawing challenges at the Fine Art Gallery. Â
In the evening, enjoy roller-skating at Wally’s Roller Disco. Skate under the mirror ball and dance to the music before catching your breath at the café. Staff are also on hand to help any nervous skaters feel like a natural in the rink too.
For a different day out, ride on the Ribble Steam Railway line. Admire the Preston Marina and see all kinds of locomotives when you stop off at the museum.
Head out of the town and spend the day on the rides on the beach at Blackpool or explore the Forest of Bowland for the stunning views over the Ribble Valley from Pendle Hill.Â
