VW-Type Campervan - Electric Grass PitchesApr 2025

Loved the site, peaceful and quiet. Paddle boarding and a few shortish walks (up to 3 miles) on the doorstep and much more in 30 mins driving. Had a great time and would definitely come back. The only small point I would make would be a small stool in the showers would be great!

Amazing g of a campsite

VW-Type Campervan - Electric Grass PitchesApr 2025

Highly recommend this site. It’s rural and spacious. Loved picking our own pitch and the fact that it feels as though you’re wild camping with the sound of pheasants and owls at night from the tree line. It’s basic site but the facilities are well thought out with clean toilets and showers, an honestly shop and a kitchen with a fridge, freezer,, kettle and microwave. The fire pits and picnic tables are a nice touch and logs can be bought on site at any time via the honestly policy. The owners advised that we could paddle board on the estate and we had a lovely walk through the grounds with a view over the loch. Great location to visit Wigtown, Castle Douglas, Luce Bay and Mabie forest. Very reasonably priced site too. We’ll likely be returning

VW-Type Campervan - Electric Grass and Gravel PitchesApr 2025

Have stayed on many campsites over the past couple of years unfortunately, this one fell short of our expectations. There was a pick your own pitch, which is great in theory but if unaware if someone is already on can be an issue if they have gone out for the day, which we saw happen. Also, every pitch is uneven and you absolutely need chocks. Grass pitches were directly behind the hardstanding, so almost on top of you. The facilities were clean but shared, possibly designated some for male some for female could be an option. Overall, a lovely area but the layout of the site let it down.

What a beautiful location, facilities and the owner is just so lovely. My car broke down, the owner then drove to come and get me. Honestly, cannot thank her enough for her kindness and hospitality.

VW-Type Campervan - Electric Grass PitchesApr 2025

We loved our stay here. We'd booked EHU which meant we couldn't park in the large rolling field, but in a standard pitch. The pitches are spacious and we were the only ones there so it was fine. Next time, we'll make sure to pitch in the field. Showers and toilets are great, clean and fairly new looking. Nice, relaxing vibe to the place.

Had a couple of relaxing days away, although we upgraded to the starseeker pod instead which met all our needs for our short stay , peaceful and lovely walks through and along the estate. Couldn't of picked a better week as the weather has been great

Camping Pod - Apex Camping Pods (Dog Friendly)Sep 2024

4 of us stayed in the Apex hut, very nice and cosy, the appliances were working and really adds to the stay. Facilities provided (e.g. wash room, shower) were very clean and maintained well. Not sure if it was just our hut, but the bin wasn't emptied and still had previous occupant's stuff - other than that, place was clean.

Amazing location within a very quiet estate, beautiful nature all around and very good walks. The site itself is basic, but clean and well organised. We hope to come back!

Camping Pod - Apex Camping Pods (Dog Friendly)Sep 2024

We booked a pod for a one night stay at this lovely estate. It was very reasonably priced, was in a great location, closest shop we could find was around 10 mins away. Lovely spacious site, dog friendly and very calm. The toilets were clean, just a very good relaxed vibe here. Each pod had a fire pit, and put £2 in the meter that was plenty for electricity and heating (which we didn't need to use). I was sent location and entry details which were so straight forward. I was able to park the car at the side of the pod, and the pods had enough space between for privacy from other guests. On walking to the toilets in the morning, everyone was greeted with "good morning", which was lovely. I messaged the owner in the morning for some local advice and she was able to give me a full itinerary of things to do locally that I wouldn't have known about, which was amazing. There was an information booklet in the pod that explained everything and had some local sites or places of interest. We went round to Galloway Activity Centre on Loch Ken, which was about a 10 minute drive where the kids had lots of activities to choose from. Was very reasonable in price, breath-taking scenery and had a little café, which was all dog friendly. Will 100% be returning here, myself, 2 daughters aged 10 & 11 and puppy had a great time.

Large Tent - Electric Grass PitchesAug 2024

We stayed 3 nights in a tent with EHU (family of 5 - 2 adults, 3 kids 4,7 and 13 years). Arrived Thursday afternoon and secured a pitch near the facilities as have young children. The site was easy to find and the hosts Andrew and Michelle were always contactable and attentive to any needs. We arranged to hire a family canoe (max 4 people) & a kayak through Andrew. We had a lovely time accessing the water through their grounds and rowing to Loch Ken, which was scenic and great experience for us all. The facilities were good and to our needs, as well as cleaned every day we were there. Would definitely stay again! Thank you Andrew, Michelle and family!

Sprinter-Type Campervan - Electric Grass and Gravel PitchesAug 2024

Was travelling around Scotland and booked 4 nights here at short notice, not really knowing what to expect, but was very pleasantly surprised by both the views and facilities here. Very few sites have internet than covers the entire site and the 24 hours drinks making facilities were well appreciated by me who wakes up multiple times a night. Also, staff were friendly and helpful. The location was perfect for what I wanted to do, and I will definitely be coming back.

Large Tent - Electric Grass PitchesAug 2024

We had a fantastic stay here this week. The campsite is quiet and calm, set in a picturesque estate. The facilities are great and there is plenty of room for everyone to enjoy. There is plenty of space for kids to run about and play too! Would stay here again as there are plenty local activities to do.

Camping Pod - Stargazer Camping PodAug 2024

What can I say, it was breathtaking. Such a quiet place with minimum noise. Couldn't believe how big the areas were. Availability for tents, mobile homes, caravans and of course, the pods. The Aries stargazing pod we stayed in was lovely. Ample space, the bed that can be made up would sleep easily 4 people, more if smaller, it was like a super queen bed and a double duvet looked lost on the bed. It also had an extra 2 beds that can be used as seating area and made into beds like the above. It was very clean and tidy, had all the amenities you could need and want. Microwave, toaster, kettle, fridge, even a wall heater. Then, outside was a sheltered bench area and fire pit for BBQ on or basically chilling in the evening. The positions of the pods are amazing, backing onto the wildlife fields and so private. Evenly spaced out. The views from the pods are lovely. Didn't get the chance to mooch around but they had ample things in and around the area. They had showers and toilets evenly space out across all fields. A little info shop on entrance which is a honesty box. Didn't use, but was told that what it was. At 5pm, the owners would come round selling wood packs containing wood, kindling and firelighters, enough for you to enjoy a chilled out fire in evening. Cost £10 per pack. The pod has electric (meter inside). Honestly, £2 would have been ample. But, I feel the cold and the wall heater ate the electric really quickly. The meter takes £1 and £2 coins. Inside the pod was hand brush and pan. I would suggest a long hand broomed brush would make a difference when brushing up. I honestly loved our stayed there, we had gone to a campsite the night before on Loch Ness and stayed in a 2 man tent and it was the worst night ever, it rained all night and was windy. We decide to move on and booked the Stargazing Pod at Hensol Estate last minute on internet through Campsites.co.uk and it was truly value for money. Definitely going to go back, maybe with my dogs next time as there is loads to do. This site caters for everything. Truly one of the best stays I have ever stayed in.

VW-Type Campervan - Electric Grass and Gravel PitchesAug 2024

First time at this campsite and will definitely be back, friendly site with dark skies - spacious so feels private. We went hook-up but think I'd try the grassy area next time for that wild camping feel - the pods look good too for folk not wanting to camp. Wee honesty shop on site and fire pits allowed & some supplied. 🔥

VW-Type Campervan - Non Electric Grass PitchesAug 2024

I am very happy to have discovered this site. It has a wild feel to it if you don't need a hook up. It's an easy cycle to Castle Douglas and has a nice loch near by. The fire pits are a lovely touch and if clear, the stars are spectacular.

Large Tent - Electric Grass PitchesJul 2024

Loved this site. Basic, but exactly why we like it. Got a email before we arrived describing the lay out of the site and that we could choose from 7 pitches with EHU. We choose to go up on the hill, it is a bit uneven for a tent but we just balanced stuff out and the space is huge. It's a nice quiet site with a fire pit, which was a winner for us. Showers and toilets cleaned daily. We ended up booking an extra night and when I called, they told us we didn't have to rush off site and could have a chilled one if we wanted, which was great! We will definitely be returning to this site in future.

Camping Pod - Stargazer Camping PodJul 2024

Great little campsite. We stayed in the stargazer pod and it had everything we needed and was nice and cosy and saved the hassle of setting up and taking down a tent! Toilets and the pod we stayed in were very clean! Did some fishing in Woodhall Loch too, which is about a mile drive from the campsite. Managed to catch a lovely big perch 👍🏼 Saw a few buzzards also which was very cool! Also saw some pheasants. Michelle, one of the hosts, was nice and helpful. Will definitely be back soon, had a great weekend.

Large Tent - Electric Grass PitchesJul 2024

Stayed for two nights. Facilities were immaculate. Hot showers and individual toilets. Free use of fire bits and BBQs. Site is not overloaded with people, which is lovely. You feel like you have space. We were allowed access to the boathouse so we could take our paddle boards on the loch. Only downside was the weather, it caused some slight pooling of water on grass but that's not a disaster. We loved it and will be back.

Motorhome - Electric Grass and Gravel PitchesJul 2024

We booked this campsite at the last minute. What a find 🌟 Lovely site. Great views. We were on a gravel EHU, which had lots of space. Separate showers and toilets and well as dishwashing facilities. BBQs & fire pits were available free of charge. It was £10 for a bag of logs. There were also bikes to hire as well as paddle boards, canoes/kayaks. Lessons could also be booked. We were extremely lucky to have the site to ourselves the first night. On the second night we did have company 😊 Our personal preference is when we book a site, we are not interested in clubs/entertainment. This suited us perfectly. We will definitely be back.
