That's pretty much it.
This is the perfect location for hiking, hill walking, wildlife watching, cycling, mountain biking and so much more. If you're a wildlife fan, the Galloway Forest Park has some of Scotland's most amazing wildlife - but without the long drive north - including red squirrels, otters, pine martens, black grouse, red deer and even nightjars.
The Southern Upland Way passes nearby, making Glentrool an ideal stopover for those taking the walk from Portpatrick to Eyemouth. Hill walking here is a glorious challenge with the highest peak (The Merrick) standing at 2,766ft.
The spectacular Loch Trool, the RSPB Wood of Cree Nature Reserve and two of the world-renowned 7Stanes Mountain Biking Trails are nearby so you can't beat this base for those on intrepid expeditions into the great outdoors!
A short trip of 9 miles north will take you to Newton Stewart, set beside the lovely Cairnsmore of Fleet mountain. From there it's only around 50 miles to Dumfries in the east and 25 miles to Stranraer in the west, where you could even hop over to Belfast on the ferry.
