About Spring Field Dark Skies Eco Camp
A warm welcome awaits you at this eco-friendly sustainable campsite. Generating its power from a large PV solar system, creating an off-grid experience, away from the hustle and bustle of towns and cities. As soon as you enter the camping field, there are commanding views over the Shropshire Hills AONB and beyond.
Undesignated pitches with some all weather hardstanding (bookable option) across the spacious four acre site, welcoming campervans, tents, trailer tents, roof-tents, motorhomes (up to 7m) and small touring caravans (6m) and car/van sleepers. Guests can expect peace and quiet with great sunsets!
Free WiFi across the site to keep up with the news or the kids for gaming! Most pitches are near 6 amp or 16 amp solar-generated eco hook-up and water taps nearby.
Spot visiting wild deer next to your pitch in the early morning and soaring Buzzards and Red-Kites and at night gaze up at the bright stars above. Here nature is right beside you and so very close if you are quiet! Camper numbers are low, it's a microsite for you to enjoy the peacefulness of the location. Ideal for families, nature lovers, bird-watchers and stargazers.
The campsite is in a secluded "Dark Skies Area" making it an ideal location for stargazing, bring your telescope or just binoculars. The site is used by local astronomers due to its Dark Skies location, try to spot some of the constellations above. If it's cloudy, watch the fascinating twinkling lights of Shrewsbury in the distance.
Four-legged friends are welcome to join you on your stay (two per pitch max). Pets must be kept on a short lead at all times as there is livestock in the adjacent fields.
There's a communal fire pit free to use and socialise. The site can supply seasoned logs and there are even fire pits and pizza ovens available to hire that go over the fire pit. Please note that open ground fires are not permitted, and personal BBQ must be raised off the ground at least 400mm and grass protection heat-shields used.
The entire site can be reserved exclusively for private functions, events, filming and parties.
All pitches are available from March to 20th October. During winter, the site has a few spaces with views for small campervans and small tents on the hardstanding area.
On-site facilities include clean flushing toilet pods with heated hand-wash (unisex) and large washing up sinks. Please note, there are no showers on this site at present. Black (Elsan chemical) and grey water disposal facilities. Free WiFi, fresh water and solar generated hookups cover most of the site.
A 15 minute drive from the site is the charming village of Much Wenlock, which offers good shops, pubs and fuel, including The George and Dragon at the bottom of the high street. Other pubs nearby include the Riverside Inn Cross Houses on the River Severn.

A note from the site themselves...
Operating off grid and aiming to be as carbon-neutral as possible, it's how we lower our impact on the environment. All of the electricity is generated on-site from a large PV solar array. Storage is used to continue supplies throughout the night. The subdued LED lighting around the site is dimmed (saving energy) as low as possible to preserve our Dark Skies.
Surplus electricity generated during the day is exported to the National Grid, at present about 60%, further reducing our carbon footprint! The lawn mowers run on low emission green HVO fuel.
In the event of a shortfall of power in bad weather, a standby generator keeps us off the Grid running on HVO fuel. HVO generates 90% less C02 and 30% less Nox2 pollution than diesel and is a fully renewable resource.
Waste water from toilets and washing process stays on site and passes through a living reed-bed complex and onwards to an evaporation pond supporting local wildlife, ensuring we don't pollute the groundwater table or streams nearby.
The wood we sell for fires comes from our own resources, processed by a neighbour, so has minimal transport miles and is locally renewable. We hope this explains a few of the things we do and our aims. You are also doing your bit by supporting us.
We look forward to welcoming you to our eco paradise soon. As soon as you discover our site, you are sure to return.
Your host, Linda

If you're looking for a short stay and peace then this is perfect. The views are amazing and the site is very welcoming.
The owners were unbelievable and made it perfect. Seriously, the owners are so sociable and helpful. We even got some amazing left over lemon cake from a batch that was too big and it was given as a treat. They were so nice to my kids. I WILL go back. Wow what a clean ,polite, peaceful place.
Ps. I never do reviews but this needed to be said.

Small Tent - Grass Backpacker Tent Pitches. (Non electric)Jul 2023
This is such a great site. Small and friendly, with basic facilities but clean and tidy.
Lovely views of the surrounding countryside stretching over to the Shropshire Hills, Shrewsbury and the Wrekin in all directions. Hosts Linda and Malcolm gave me the warmest welcome and were so helpful in advising me, as a new camper, where to pitch.
The site is so peaceful and calm, and as a solo female camper I really appreciated their awareness of site security, I felt safe all the time. There are easily accessible walks through the woods right by the campsite, and round the neighbouring fields and the hosts are always ready to point you in the right direction.
A gem of a site, can't wait to go back again!
Site's response
Now closed for the winter but planning a new season March 1st 24 onward, Tracy. No plans to make our little site bigger, just keep it small and eco cosy.

Medium Tent - Grass Tent Pitches Up To 6m (Optional Electric)Apr 2024
We had a wonderful first tentative step into camping with our toddler last weekend here at the Spring Fields dark sky site. The site was lovely, small and cosy, kept very well, everything you need was close by and the setting was amazing. With beautiful views looking down over the Shropshire countryside, brilliant for watching sunsets, and gorgeous bluebell carpeted woodland on site it was the perfect place to dip our toe in. What really made it special were the wonderful hosts who made us feel right at home and even brought out lemon drizzle cake for pudding. We look forward to our next visit and would recommend to anyone looking for a few days away from the city.
