About the site

Nestled within the breathtaking Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), this eco-friendly off-grid campsite offers a peaceful retreat away from the noise and pace of urban life. Powered entirely by a large photovoltaic solar system, it's a haven for nature lovers, families, bird-watchers, and stargazers alike. Open-plan fields have views over the Shropshire Hills and the distant Shropshire Plain. You can spot wildlife right from your pitch, from wild deer in the early mornings, to soaring buzzards, majestic red kites and owls throughout the day. Choose between grass pitches or all-weather hardstanding. Campervans, tents, trailer tents, roof tents, small caravans (up to 6m), and motorhomes (up to 7m) are all welcome. There's a sheltered field just for tents, perfect for those seeking extra privacy. Solar generated green power hookup is an available option throughout the site. With a focus on tranquillity, camper numbers are kept low to ensure peace and safety for children. Tent campers can conveniently unload near their pitch, with vehicles then parked nearby to preserve the serene atmosphere. The campsite is hidden behind woodland away from the noise of roads in a secluded Dark Skies Area, making it an ideal location for stargazing, bring your telescope or just binoculars. Local astronomers use the site due to its Dark Skies location. Try to spot some of the constellations above. If it's cloudy, watch the twinkling lights of Shrewsbury in the far distance. There is a centrally located communal fire pit that is free to use for social get-togethers. Seasoned logs are available from reception. Private fire-pits/BBQs and pizza ovens to hire. There is a shelter pod with a free phone charging point, great for those in small tents when the weather is less favourable. Please note, open ground fires are not permitted. Only approved fire pits hired on site are allowed at the pitch. Disposable BBQs may be used in the central area, but not at your pitch. You can also hire a canoe from James, the Camp Host, to explore the River Severn and Attingham Park Tern! Your four-legged friends are welcome to join you on your stay (two per pitch max). Pets must be kept on a short lead at all times, as there may be livestock in the adjacent fields. The entire site can be reserved exclusively for private functions, parties, events and filming.

A note from the site themselves...

Operating off-grid and aiming to be as carbon-neutral as possible, it's how we lower our impact on the environment. Most of the electricity is generated from a large PV solar array. The subdued LED lighting around the site is dimmed (saving energy) to preserve our Dark Skies so you will need a torch in some areas.

Our perimeter lights by your pitch can be turned off on request to enhance your enjoyment of the dark skies, just ask your host.

Surplus electricity generated during the day is exported to the National Grid, further reducing our carbon footprint. The lawn mowers run on low emission green HVO fuel. In the event of a shortfall of power in bad weather, a standby generator keeps us off the grid running on HVO fuel. HVO generates 90% less C02 and 30% less Nox2 pollution than diesel and is a fully renewable resource.

Waste water from toilets and washing process stays on site and passes through a living reed-bed complex and onwards to an evaporation pond supporting local wildlife, ensuring we don't pollute the groundwater table or streams nearby.

The wood we sell for fires comes from our own coppice resources, processed by a neighbour, so has minimal transport miles and is locally renewable. Your contribution to purchasing our local logs rather than supermarket logs that have many carbon miles on their production helps our sustainability concept. We hope this explains a few of the things we do and our aims.

You are also doing your bit for the environment by supporting us. We look forward to welcoming you to our eco paradise soon. As soon as you discover our site, you are sure to return soon to enjoy its peacefulness and leave refreshed by nature. Your host, James.

VW-Type Campervan - Hardstanding Small Campervan/Roof Tent Pitch 5m (Optional Electric)Mar 2025

Such an incredibly serene and peaceful campsite, the views were stunning with a brilliant view over the hills during sunset. Shut your eyes and all you hear is the birds chirping and the buzz of the insects, even on a chilly March morning. James was a great host, very friendly and explained everything clearly. Lots of drinking water sources around the field along with electric for those who choose it. Absolutely will be coming again, maybe on a day where my toes aren't frosty.

Site's response

We look forward to your return and it really does get very much warmer here.
