Bird song bonanza

We stayed for one night as part of a dawn chorus bird song event. It was our first time at The Secret Campsite and for three seasoned campers, we were very impressed. The washhouse was pristine, spacious and sympathetically crafted with recycled wood and a rustic feel. The pitches are spacious and spread out, so there is a feeling of privacy. We backed onto the woods which were filled with bluebells; it's always worth camping in early spring! Tim and Tallulah were very welcoming and friendly, whilst also giving us space to relax. We will definitely be returning. Thank you for a great time immersed in nature.

Medium Tent - Non Electric Meadow PitchesApr 2024

This is an absolutely fabulous campsite. So peaceful, set amidst beautiful surroundings in the South Downs. We were made very welcome by Tim, the owner, and his daughter, who went out of their way to help. The facilities are fantastic - hot showers, rain water-flushed loos, all immaculately clean and tidy. Lewes, with its great pubs and restaurants, is only a 10 minute drive. Brighton is also easily accessible by train from Lewes. We will definitely be coming back!

Site's response

Hi Mark, thanks for taking the time to post a review. We really appreciate it. I'm glad you had a great trip and we enjoyed meeting you both and I'm glad Lewes delivered for your meal at the Thai restaurant. All the best, Tim.

Medium Tent - Non Electric Meadow PitchesSep 2023

Nestled in deepest Sussex but surprisingly close to everything, The Secret Campsite was a great find for us. Friendly, helpful welcome, easy to find our pitch (Walnut) and great to be car-free (plenty of wheelbarrows to carry your stuff). Each of the pitches has plenty of space for tents, campfire and games. Lovely and dark around here so you can see plenty of stars. Facilities were fairly new and very clean with plenty of room for families to get changed etc. Decent pubs nearby - Laughing Fish in Isfield was great. New cafe at the farm shop was good value too. It does cost a bit more than other nearby sites but still seems good value for money. Hope to return!

My wife & I were travelling on a motorcycle so took a fairly lightweight tent. The staff were all very welcoming and super helpful. The site is stunning. All the pitches are very well placed apart. The pitch we stayed on was called Bird Cherry. It was tucked up in a corner surrounded by woods. There was a tiny woodpecker there to greet us. It's a stunning location. They had a cool box we could hire. Logs for the fire pit etc. The shower & wash facilities are built in a way that they look stunning in the surroundings and they were spotless and roomy too. All in all, we just found this place to be one of the best campsites we have ever been to. 100% going back. We love Brighton & Lewes so this place makes it all within easy reach. Thanks for having us, and thank you for caring about your site and the nature within it.

Small Tent - Non Electric Meadow PitchesAug 2023

This is the best campsite that I have ever stayed at. So peaceful, beautiful and clean. The receptionist was Steffi who is the best advertisement for this place. She was friendly, kind and went all out to make sure we felt welcome. I really didn't want to leave.

Site's response

Thanks for taking the time to write a review, Jacky. It's been really lovely meeting you and having you here. Enjoy the rest of your summer and hopefully we'll see you again soon for a little autumn camp out. All the best :) Steffi

Medium Tent - Non Electric Meadow PitchesJul 2023

Really enjoyed the setting of the camping site and how the layout promoted some privacy too. Very conscientious about nature and sustainability. We would come back. The only suggestion we make is some more mirrors and chairs or some sort of seat like stool in the showers cubicles, but overall it this was one of the best campsites we have been to. Thank you so so much.

Site's response

Thanks for taking the time to post us a review Ana, we really appreciate it. You're right the showers do need some seating and mirrors, so it's on the list. Thanks for your help and see you again. Hopefully you got to see the glow worms. Tim.

Beautiful, big spacious pitches but too remote and silent for us

We felt £70 per day is too much, although I understand that with that few pitches you have to raise your price per pitch. Nice staff, new washing space, very eco friendly, but not our cup of tea, we miss a little social interaction. It's a little bit of a hipster place, in a good way.

Site's response

Morning Mark, thanks for staying with us, I enjoyed meeting you. I hope the rest of your trip was fun. To keep the site peaceful and to encourage lots of wildlife into the camping areas, we have avoided any communal spaces and we don't allow cars or music near the pitches. It seems to work well for the campers and the wildlife. Thanks for taking time to post a review, we really appreciate it and it helps people decide which sites they would like to go to and what to expect. Thanks again, Tim.

Fantastic - great location, facilities and the staff are awesome

Large Tent - Non Electric Meadow PitchesJun 2023

Great site - excellent plots that are semi private, beautiful and tranquil. Staff are incredibly helpful - love the honesty box fire wood and ice pack system. Would highly recommend! 4 ladies from London. As you've got your own plot, which is huge and it's semi private, you don't get interrupt by kids (sorry parents! 😉)

Site's response

Thank you for leaving us a review, Sam. I'm glad you had a great time and enjoyed the space. Enjoy the rest of the summer and we'd love to see you again! All the best Steffi

Returning customers with our family, our 3 grandchildren ages from 14 - 9. They were very impressed, and really enjoyed looking for the slow worms, spotting the dears, rabbits and listening to all the different types of birds. We all had lovely walks in the woods. Such a relaxing stay. At night, we enjoyed the campfire. Whilst we were there, a couple of astronomers visited, who allowed us to look through the telescope. We viewed the moon and Venus, they also took pictures for us- this was very interesting. Facilities were always clean, looking forward to see the new shower blocks that are being built. Tim the owner is lovely and helpful, I will definitely recommend this campsite and will be returning. Grandchildren now want a wheelbarrow.

Medium Tent - Non Electric Meadow PitchesMay 2023

Great campsite, lots of wildlife around, the pitches are a good space away from each other so you don't feel you're on top of other campers. Amenities are good, there is a shop on site run by Steffi who is lovely, you can get tea and coffee and other bits, also can buy wood and charcoal and even meat boxes. Perfect family spot with lots of kids running around having fun.

Site's response

Thanks for taking the time to post a review, Riga. We really appreciate it and look forward to seeing you all again on another occasion. Tim
