About The Original Hut Company
Located in the tiny village of Bodiam, this family friendly, peaceful site is set across 200 acres of land which is separated into multiple camping and glamping fields. Expect views of Bodiam Castle, access to waterways, and stunning fields and don't forget to keep an eye out for the vintage steam train that heads through the site. Bring your own tent or campervan and set up camp on the family site with 50 grass pitches. The pitches are to the edge of the field, allowing plenty of space for the kids to play. Each measures around 6m x 4m, allowing up to six guests. The beautifully handcrafted shepherd's huts were built by Nick, the owner, using reclaimed, recycled, and locally sourced materials wherever possible. The site is home to two separate glamping sites each with four shepherd's huts plus a wash hut. Sleeping up to five people, these are fully equipped with all you need for a peaceful getaway, including comfy beds, a gas hob, central heating, cooking equipment, and a fire pit. There are shared toilets and shower facilities provided in the wash hut at each site. Bespoke, local produce hampers can also be arranged for your arrival. The farm has worked hard with the community and offers a range of activities on the farm, including watersports, woodland workshops, yoga and more! In the evenings, you can head to the communal covered space, with a campfire and cooking facilities. Be sure to also head to The Hub where you can enjoy a delicious brunch and a cocktail at the bar. During the summer months, you can join in on the pizza nights on Fridays. A small gift shop also sells local goods including hampers and crafts! There are also two more exclusive hire camping fields with their own facilities.
Camping is available from 1st May to 30th September, the shepherd's huts are available from 22nd March until 1st November.
For camping, facilities include eco-loos, piping hot showers and a washing up hut, with plumbed-in loos and showers available at The Hub (about a ten minute walk at most). For glamping units, there is a shared wash hut housing two loos with basins and two showers with hot and cold water supply. Fire pits can also be supplied.
The Hub on site contains an onsite licenced café serving sustainably sourced products. Starting from breakfast and brunch running through to lunch, cocktails and pop-up evening food events. There is also WiFi here, along with a small boutique shop serving gifts and local produce, including food hampers.
The onsite activity and hire centre offers paddle boarding, kayaking, archery, a holiday club and more. Bodiam Castle is also a ten minute walk away with a tea room and the Castle Inn pub.

First time camping in a long time. Site was clean and had all the facilities needed for a good stay. Showers were hot in the Poplar site and roomy. Enough room for the kids to play but site was not full. Greeted on arrival and given all the information we needed. The hub was a lovely place for a coffee in the sun and being Father's Day, it was busy with locals for breakfast. Had the pizzas on arrival, a great booking system here for this, and food was fresh. If on a budget, be mindful that the pizzas only feed one adult each. Why not 5*? Although eco friendly, the composting toilet on the pitch area was on occasion too smelly. Great to be able to use a fire pit and toast marshmallows in the evening. Site was quiet mostly.

Beautiful big fields with space so that we didn't feel crowded. Loved how close the castle was and we used the river a lot with our kayak. The on-site café is great and we spoiled ourselves several times there. Genuinely, one of our favourite times camping to date. Personally, I could've done with a slightly nicer shower/toilet area, but this is something I always battle with. Maybe it was a little too rustic for me but that could be my problem. All round an absolute gem.

We had such a wonderful time camping here. We are not a family that typically enjoys camping but with the coffee shop and excellent food on offer, along with the a near-by castle and water sports, it made for a wonderful time. We will likely go back!

The site offers a range of activities on the farm, including water sports (paddleboarding, kayaking etc.), woodland workshops, yoga and more.
The site is within walking distance along the Rother River to Bodiam Castle, Kent and East Sussex railway, and local pubs and shops. Free fishing is allowed and there are plenty of lovely walks around the adjacent countryside.
Even at Camber Sands (35 minutes drive away), it's not just sunbathing that'll draw you in - there's water sports to get involved in too.
