About Graig Wen

You'll find this tranquil site in Snowdonia National Park, near Barmouth and Dolgellau, enjoys an exceptional location. Overlooking the Mawddach Estuary, one of the most beautiful in Wales, the views are breathtaking. You can bike to the beach and there are scenic walks from the door to waterfalls, woods and up into the hills. There is a sheltered hardstanding area with electric hook-ups for 6 vans near the showers and holiday cottages. Or if you really want to get away from it all, go wild and pitch your tent down near the estuary to stargaze around a campfire in a back-to-nature setting. Pitches in the lower fields are 5-10 minutes on foot from the car parking area, with wheelbarrows provided. The yurts' frames are homegrown from ash trees on the site's woodland and handcrafted by master yurt-makers. The shepherd's hut and wagons are available most of the year. Well insulated and snug, the wagons have instant heat at the flick of a switch and one has an en suite loo and shower. The shepherd's hut includes a toasty wood burning stove and space to sleep a couple or family of four. The Idris Yurt is set in a secluded and wild woodland location with your own campfire and compost loo surrounded by huge oak trees. Hot showers are a few minutes walk. The Tommy Yurt is set with two other yurts and the shepherd's hut in a glade secluded from the rest of campsite. Dogs on leads are welcome.

A note from the site themselves...

After selling our house in Sussex, we lived on the road in our campervan with our trusty dogs. We travelled all over the Europe but after a year, we discovered Graig Wen and have never looked back!

We are walkers and cyclists ourselves and our love of the mountains has taken us to teahouses in the Himalayas and hostels in the Alps. When we get some down time we love to explore new places. Our dogs Bryn and Franklin love the local beach walks and wanders around our woods - Mr Jenkins our super sociable cat often comes to, much to the surprise of campers!

John had a background in working with conservation volunteers with a love of photography, whilst I (Sarah) used to run an arts marketing agency. We wanted a change and this really did feel like the perfect fit.

It hasn't always been an easy ride. But we're proud of what we have achieved on a shoestring with the help of friends, family, creative partnerships and the local community who welcomed us. We feel incredibly privileged to call Snowdonia home. It's our pleasure to share it with others.

Medium Tent - Lower Tent Camping FieldsSep 2023

Graig Wen campsite was beyond expectations. We stayed 4 nights with our 5yo and 9yo. They loved exploring the campsite and the views, we loved the scenery and the peace. Campsite staff were helpful and friendly, the pizza from the mobile van was excellent (only in peak season I think). We have already recommended this place to friends.

Site's response

Thank you so much for recommending us. We're so pleased your family enjoyed our tent camping fields and summer pizza night.
