Brilliant find, so many options for accommodation. Lovely well kept grounds and spaced out so plenty of room between everyone. Eco friendly too and has a pizza shack which serves fab pizzas, sides, breakfast, brownies, drinks etc. Very friendly owners too, looking forward to returning.

High quality glamping. A perfect treat for a special birthday; decided to book a new Kabina - very happy indeed. Super, tasteful interior, luxurious bedding and towels - well equipped kitchen, including logs for the fire pit too. Nestled in unspoilt nature, lovely walking around the site especially exploring the Sanctuary, sampling the Pizza Shack woodfired pizzas and this being superb quality, complimented with fresh morning pastries and coffee - such a treat. The hot tub was lovely and the covered seating area was fab for lounging around. Would highly recommend coming here, the top tips from Barney for the area to visit and explore were an added bonus and close by & the village 'Plum & Partridge' was super too. We will be back, and would not hesitate and have already recommended this super site and Barney's team who were incredible too, ensuring our stay was top notch - thank you again!

Thank you Diane! It was lovely meeting you and thank you so much for the review. We look forward to seeing you again. 🙏🏻

Perfect gem. Great-sized pitches with plenty of space between each pitch. The site is exceptionally clean, with a great recycle-reuse ethos. Pot wash area inside, which is a bonus with fridges to use if needed. There is a drying room which is a great idea for airing off towels etc. The attention to detail to make your stay comfortable has been well thought through. Lots of space for kids to run around and play. A great bonus is the pizza shack, which is amazing. All staff are very accommodating. If you are looking for a quieter site, then I would highly recommend the hideaway, you will not be disappointed.

Thank you, Debbie! What a lovely review. We look forward to seeing you back at The Hideaway and Baxby Manor in the future 😊

I was worried when we first booked this holiday how remote it would be and how we would cope living in a Hoglet house with no electricity with a child. How wrong I was. We had an excellent few days and our daughter loved the Hoggleton house. The staff were amazing from day one, helping my Dad's van out of the mud on our final day due to torrential rain the night before (the start of Storm Babet). The facilities were great and absolutely spotless. The Pizza Shack was awesome and also catered for breakfast in the morning too, where you can get lovely hot rolls and waffles. It was very dark on the site at night (October) but it only adds to the adventure. Make sure you bring a strong torch. The Hoggleton house has its own wood burner so it was super cosy at night. There was also a firepit outside which we made use of on our first night to cook our dinner. Would recommend a stay here - we will definitely be back!

Loved it

Pod - Double Eco Pod (Pet Free)Oct 2023

It was very well organised, everything is close by like showers, toilets ect. Only thing I have to say is that it should be clearer that you need to bring indoor shoes, as outdoor shoes are not allowed.

Pod - Double Eco Pod (Pet friendly)Sep 2023

We had a fantastic time at the Hideaway. Great location, the eco pods were very comfortable, the whole place oozed of peace and serenity. The showers and toilets were immaculate, as was the washing up area. Barney has done a great job, everyone who works there is friendly and helpful. Also, a shout out to Matthew at The Pizza Shack (on site). His food is excellent and he went above and beyond with his help. All in all, a great break. We wouldn't hesitate in recommending The Hideaway to anyone, and we will certainly be back next year.

Pod - Double Eco Pod (Pet Free)Aug 2023

We really enjoyed our stay, the pod was small but spacious enough, with room under the bed and a side bench for storage. We loved sitting out around the fire pit. The shop was really good and the pizza shack was incredible. The only bad thing was the bed, it was extremely uncomfortable and we may as well have slept on the floor.

Okay little site

Large Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesAug 2023

Lovely little site. However, something which struck me as very strange was the obligation to remove your shoes before going in the toilets. Now, I understand the need to keep the facilities clean. However, standing bare foot in a public bathroom fills me with disgust and dread! I instead took my sliders with me to wear in the facilities but the number of children walking around with me shoes on was worrying. Also, we took 2 cars with us and was asked to park one of the cars a good 5 min walk off site! Other than this, the site was lovely and our neighbours were respectful and the onsite pizza hut was fabulous.

Site's response

Hi Vicki, Thank you for your feedback. I will hopefully address a couple of the things you have mentioned. In the booking confirmation email everyone receives when they book we say: "To help keep the facilities clean and hygienic for your fellow campers and glampers; please remove outdoor shoes when entering the washrooms - bring with you some flip-flops or similar footwear to change into." "Please take note; Each pitch/Hoglet House/Eco-Pod has one assigned parking space, there is only one space per pitch/unit. If you have more than one car you must book it in at Reception, (or add it to your booking prior to arrival), and we will endeavour to find you an extra parking spot. Please do not park it in an empty space as this will be someone else's assigned spot! Day visitors are welcome but for reasons above, please call prior to arrival to check parking availability." Perhaps you missed the booking confirmation email with information? I am happy to read that you enjoyed the pizzas and hope to see you at Baxby Manor again soon.

Small Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesAug 2023

Wonderful spot with walking footpaths from the campsite (very overgrown in summer, wear trousers!). Facilities really clean and well maintained, so nice to have option to buy pizzas and breakfast foods and lovely proper coffee! Each pitch feels quite private, has its own fire pit which was great. Very friendly staff and helpful owner. Lovely vibe on the campsite, family friendly, but also great for couples and older people too.

Site's response

Thank you, Laura. I am glad you had an enjoyable experience and cannot wait to welcome you back to Baxby Manor. Barney

Noise issues

Jul 2023

After visiting Baxby Manor a number of times and enjoyed it, it is sad to have to say that while the toilets are clean & tidy, the signage is dated and confusing, with different times stated re the sound curfew. Not that this is enforced! Our grandchildren used headphones throughout our stay when listening to music or playing their games, but others had music playing until gone 1am, combined with children running about and groups of adults talking/shouting at them. We had radios on in the early morning! Tried calling to report the noise to both land line and mobile numbers, leaving messages, I even sent a text on the emergency help number (when we found it!) no response! Neither me or my wife has had any response to these. I feel that the lack of follow up is very saddening. The main access path to some of the Pods & camping areas when wet, is muddy, with a huge puddle making a trip to the shower/toilet block a wet, hazardous journey (a little tlc or even some gravel might help).

Site's response

Hello Stuart, We are sorry about the noise disturbance that you experienced when you were here. We do our best to mitigate this as best we can but as you unfortunately found out, it only takes one to spoil it for the many. I am afraid the emergency number only picks up calls and no calls were made during your stay (only a text). However, as we are a small family-run site, we do all we can to make the rules clear; on the confirmation emails, upon check in and, on the welcome map/leaflet handed to everyone when they arrive, you will find the emergency number, along with a reminder of the no music and quiet hours of 10pm - 7am policy. I have however found a couple of signs that need updating, so have actioned this already. As with most small family-run campsites like The Hideaway who do not have night porters/security, we politely ask that if there is a noise disturbance after Reception has closed, please do have a word with the culprits, as they too have been made aware of the rules. If that doesn't work then we, unlike most campsites, provide an emergency number which can be used for noise disturbances. This when called, it is picked up by myself (Barney) and I come down to the site where possible. The weather was extremely wet during your stay and it rained all weekend, so there were quite a lot of puddles everywhere but we have put "gravel for paths" on our "quiet season jobs" list 👍🏻 I appreciate you taking the time to feedback to us and I am sorry it was not the best experience, unlike your three previous visits. I hope to see you again so that you can see that your latest experience at The Hideaway was a one-off (as, I hope, this summers' weather is!).

Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesJul 2023

Wonderful peaceful campsite, surrounded by nature, with 1st class facilities. Nice level grassy pitch with plenty of space. Toilets were clean and modern. The drying room was handy during a wet week. We always appreciate a washing-up facility and access to a fridge & freezer was a bonus. We loved the Pizza Shack! Staff were super friendly & helpful. We saw bats and rabbits, but not so keen on the hedgehog that came into the tent! In fairness, we stayed midweek outside of school holidays, so it wasn't very busy.

Site's response

Thank you, Alex. The drying room is very handy, wasn't it! I am glad you enjoyed the Pizza Shack and using the facilities, we strive to offer a great experience to everyone so I am very happy to hear you had a great time. I look forward to seeing back at Baxby Manor again soon. Barney

Large Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesMay 2023

We have had a fabulous stay at Baxby Manor. It was our first camping trip since moving back to the north east. It was easy to find. The layout for pitches is perfect with trees and long grass scattered between which gave just enough privacy but allowed for all the children to meet up and make friends. There was a nice hidden piece of woodland that the children spent all their time in but we could still hear them. Felt safe to let the children move freely. Excellent facilities including lovely clean bathrooms, hot showers, great sinks for washing up, some fridge and freezer space for essentials and really appreciated the pizza shack for that first night after setting up. We will definitely be booking another trip here and I would highly recommend this campsite!

Site's response

Thank you for your feedback. It is lovely to hear how the children made some friends and that you felt safe letting them play by themselves. I cannot wait to welcome you back to Baxby Manor.

Glamping - Hoglet Houses (Pet friendly)Apr 2023

Hoglet stay - it was fantastic. Comfortable beds, nice scenery and lovely log burner. High standard facilities and the onsite Pizza Shack was spot on, nice little shop too. The only thing I could have done with for packing was an itinerary of things. (E.g. no need to bring own washing up liquid or bowl but could have done with a frying pan and a bottle opener.)

Site's response

Thank you for your review. So happy to read that you had a fantastic stay. ☺️ We have started adding to the website a list of what is included with our glamping options, great idea 🙏🏻 We look forward to seeing you again.

We've just spent 3 nights in Kabina 1 and it was delightful! The team at Baxby have done a fantastic job at getting them set up in time for our arrival at the start of the Easter break. They are clean, very comfortable and very relaxing. As we were the first people to stay (and Barney has been working tirelessly to get them finished) there were a few niggles with the hot tub, but nothing that spoilt our stay and they were sorted straight away. The Pizza Shack on site does delicious pizza and breakfasts. Highly recommend! Probably came away a stone heavier-but defo worth it! The kids loved exploring the site. It feels very safe and contained. There's a great play park in the village, which is a short walk. Plenty to do in the area - we went to The White Horse in Kilburn which is a delightful walk around the horse and through the forest. Good pubs around too. We would definitely recommend Baxby for a trip away - either camping, Hoglet house or glamping. We will be back very soon. Barney and his team are all so friendly and welcoming. Sat in the hot tub looking at the stars was definitely a highlight! 5 stars!

Site's response

Thank you, Anne. We were so pleased to be able to welcome you for the Easter break, and to hear that you all had such a wonderful time, it makes all the hard-work worth it! We look forward to welcoming you back to Baxby Manor! 😊

What a place, tucked away in a in a great location. On arrival, the site looks great. Janet was excellent on arrival, explaining everything clearly. The site facilities are of a high standard, with some features you don't see at campsites in this country. The drying room is a fantastic feature, especially if you have children, it must be great. Toilet and showers were excellent with lots of hot water. I liked that each pitch has its own fire pit another nice touch. We will be back. Thank you Baxby Manor.

Loved our stay at The Hideaway. Fantastic facilities including everything you need as a camper and the bonus of The Pizza Shack. Toilets and showers were immaculately clean. Really liked all the efforts to be an eco-friendly site. My husband wasn't so happy with the absolutely no music; there was a quiet rule, but honestly, I loved the peace and quiet. Some beautiful walks to local villages and pubs.

Site's response

Thank you for your review. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay, despite our no music rule, however I hope he came to understand why we have it and was able to appreciate the abundant wildlife we have here at Baxby Manor :-) Barney and the team

This is the second time we've stayed at The Hideaway and it truly is our favourite place to camp. The pitches are tidy and roomy. The overall atmosphere is perfect for a quiet getaway. The facilities are as good as what you'd get in a decent hotel, if not better. Barney and his team deserve every award bestowed upon them.
